I have been a fan of Amerigo since the day they opened the doors. Until last night!! My date and I had reservations for 8pm and were seated at a bar booth because that is what we requested. We had a server who was still in training, which wasnt an issue. We ordered Proseco which is $10 per glass. Price wasnt an issue. The issue was having the server place 2 empty glasses and 2 UNOPENED 8 ounce bottles of Proseco on the table and walk away. We just looked at each other. I had a brand new manicure and he has carpel tunnel. Neither of us wanted to peel off foil and twist off tops and then pour our own drinks. Not when we were paying $10 bucks each for a single glass!! I had never seen this before. When we finally got our servers attention and asked him to open and pour he said that wasnt how he was trained. But, he opened the bottles and began to pour the sparkling Prosseco into the glass without even touching the glass to tilt it. It bubbled up and over the rim of the glass and spilled on the table. At this point I took over and just said "Let me do it" because I am a server. Im not some snotty critic but I know what good service is. Moving on. The salads we ordered were amazing as usual. We tend to order the same things so we know when something is or is not right. My date ordered the Cedar Plank Roasted Chilean Sea Bass and it was phenomenal. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca with polenta and spinach. It came out looking like something from a cafeteria. The polenta had been scooped with an ice cream scoop and was a round blob on the plate and it didnt move. It looked just like a scoop of mashed potatoes or vanilla ice cream. Polenta should be velvety and creamy. The veal looked like 2 overly fried eggrolls with WAY too much of the tomato brown sauce covering them. I sawed through one and attempted to chew a bite with minimal success. It was extremely over cooked. I gave up and immediately sent it back. I am frustrated by now. I had a bite or two of my dates meal and we just asked for the check. Im not going to say I am DONE with the place but I dont understand how quality of food and service can change so drastically in a matter of months since our last visit. Its so disheartening when you really love a place and are excited for a date night and then it is such a let down. Thumbs down for this time.

Ive only been to Amerigo twice, once in Franklin and once here in Memphis. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, though the colors remind me of upscale Mexican setting haha beautiful still. I liked where we sat. Overlooking the whole restaurant. So pretty. Plus the lighting wasnt too dim. Food- I appreciate that Amerigo offers different dishes. I hate when you go to Italian and they have marinara or Alfredo and thats it. So sad when people think thats it for Italian pasta... I work in an Italian restaurant and we offer variety of different classic dishes. So I appreciate it i guess. I got the cheese fritters for a starter. Very yummy, came out crispy and gooey. Tasted great with the 2 sauces it came with. Mariana and honey mustard. Dinner I had cheese tortellini with blk chicken. Boyfriend had fettuccine imperial. Both tasted good, my complaint is there is too much butter so both sauces on the pastas were watery and you could see the pools of butter. The taste of my tortellini was good. Tastes best with a bite of spinach! The blacken seasoning used is a little too spicy for me but easy to just scrape that off my chx. My boyfriend liked his imperial. The one other thing we got as a bonus because Im such a truffle fanatic right now.... They had truffle parm fries.... It was like having a mouthgasm. The power of the truffle was a good kind of overwhelming. And the fries were a perfect crisp. Best parm truffle fries Ive ever had so far. Who knew? I was craving cheese and instead found another unhealthy junk love for those fries.... :) The truffle will get you! Oh service! Nathanial was very sweet and kind and I enjoyed him as our server :) he was timely and knowledgeable and nice! So 3 stars for food 10 stars for the fries 5 for service. Thanks Amerigo!

By far one of the best upscale but still casual restaurants in Memphis. I eat here often. Service is usually excellent, but even at its worst, good. The food is probably the best Italian for the price in Memphis. The main dining room is classy but not stuffy or snobby. Full bar, modest but solid wine selection that all pairs well with the menu. Try the cheese fritters. The pasta dishes are FILLING, especially the dinner servings. They make at least 2 meals. I havent had a bad dessert ever. Once the tiramisu was a bit lumpy, like the cheese wasnt fully blended. I wasnt going to say anything but the server noticed from our 6 party table, the 3 that picked it, none had really eaten the tiramisu. Without any prompting, he sent a manager over to investigate why desserts werent being touched. We hadnt been to Amerigos much when this happened, so awkwardly explained the dessert had..lumps? This poor guy seemed really upset and not only removed the desserts from our check w/o us asking and named every dessert they had, offering to us for free! This event made me aware how much their kitchen makes fresh daily. Since that odd but not bad experience and the excellent handling of something we were just going to ignore and pay for as everything else was excellent, Ive made this place a favorite. Now I need their Cheese Fritters. Did I mention they have curb side take out service? Their take out orders are never wrong!

The ultimate family restaurant! Not only does Amerigos have the ambiance of old Italy, the food is great, and its surprisingly reasonable. My family of six was in town and we grabbed dinner on a Saturday night. Amerigos has a great waiting area for everyone to sit. Our server, Chris, was fantastic! He was efficient, timely and had a great personality. Our food came out expeditiously, and everyone at the table ate every morsel. The dish that stood out was the chicken piccata. The portion was fit for a Sumo wrestler and my sister, who has a discerning palate, says it was the best chicken piccata shes eaten from birth to now. We shared the key lime pie and cheesecake, and obliterated them. When I glanced around, I noticed a number of large groups as well as couples, and the bar area was packed. I was sure to get a rewards card because I know we will be back! You accumulate points and get discounts on future meals. Our server said the restaurant has been around for 20 years and I understand why. Go to Amerigos and bring a hearty appetite.

We were very excited about going and the cheese fritters were very good. However, our waitress disappeared after serving us our main course and the eggplant parmesan, which is usually my safe bet in Italian restaurants, was the worst Ive ever had. It was so over seasoned that when I looked under the sauce the breading was nearly green. When the waitress FINALLY came to check on us I told her my issue and she offered to have something else made but by then my dinner companion had finished what they could of their food, which was so so but edible unlike mine. She offered no discount even though my food was almost entirely uneaten and was quick to leave again and only reappeared long enough to bring me back my card. Waste of time, will never go back. Too many other excellent places to eat in this town.
