I hate being the only one to post a sub-par review but Ive not been impressed with Dayton Coffee Shop in the past. The food is tasteless (for the most part) and unsalted/unseasoned. There are a few things on the menu that are decent like the tomato casserole or fried okra. Havent had the fried chicken or chicken n dumplins, so I cant give my opinion on those (I have heard positive reviews on those menu items). The atmosphere used to be nostalgic with photos of marines/soldiers/etc. from the 1940s on the walls but those are gone now. The owner is fairly monotone and comes across cold and uncaring. Also, all of the employees (even experienced servers from other restaurants) start by chopping lemons apparently which I could get if this was a high end establishment, but its not. As a whole, I wouldnt recommend. There are much better places in Dayton to eat.

Its about normal. Just as its called, Coffee Shop. I will say Im not crazy about the breading for the chicken. Has a sweet taste, not good on chicken livers though. We usually have to send something back for either being to cold ( mashed potatoes) or something dried out. But they are more than happy to exchange or heat you up if ya need it. Cant I really complain because the price is always right. Buts an old restaurant, has all the small town charm youd like. People are friendly, it is clean, and the pies are a dream! The cucumber salad is awesome but my pic of all is the cubed steak with gravy and a side of Cole slaw. And if youre lucky youll get there early enough to get the best tasting jalapeno cornbread you ever tasted! Try it out, you wont go home hungry or disappointed!!

Ive traveled the world and Dayton Coffee Shop is my favorite restaurant! In 25 years that Ive been going, the food has always been consistently GREAT! Want a fabulous dessert? Try their coconut pie! Their hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes is wonderful! As is their fried okra, pickled beets, green beans.....I could list their entire menu, because everything is good. And their sweet tea is perfect!!! Get there before 12:00 on weekdays, or youll be waiting to get a table!

On Mondays there is fried chicken that is THE BEST fried chicken I have ever had. The cornbread is perfect, and their sides are all around phenomenal, and all for low prices. Great local flavor in both food and clientele. Highly recommended.

Hard tough fried chicken, cold mashed potatoes. Asked for fresh fried chicken... The breading tasty but the meat was still tough! This isnt the first time, Im just tired of hoping for the best Everytime I go in there. Just wont be back.

We stopped in for lunch, and this has to be some of the best southern style food I have had. Extremely friendly staff and prompt service. I am looking forward to visiting again one day.
