Like a little trip to Italy, if that trip involves returning with regret, sadness, and a sense of astonishment at how Italy was reviewed so well by others. Il Giorgione is many things though and I need to touch on a few of those in the hope that others are not misled into trying this establishment. Let me begin with the soup as it was our first course and was a prophecy of what was to come. The dish, Tortellini in Brodo. This means Tortellini in Broth and that was exactly what arrived so I shouldnt be overly surprised. However, when a dish is composed of only two components, they must be excellent components and taste delicious. The broth was pale and lifeless in the wide shallow bowl. It tasted like the memory of chicken broth from a can. The eight tortellini pieces in the large bowl floated listlessly, stricken refugees in an uncaring ocean. This large bowl served a couple of purposes. First, it reminded me of how unimpressive the soup was, it seemed to know how silly the little tortellini pieces looked. Second, it made sure that you could only scoop half the broth up with your spoon. Thankfully, I didnt really mind as who would want to eat much of the broth anyways? Next, our entrees. My friend ordered a dish of Spaghetti Scuie Scuie which apparently translates into "Fast/Hasty Spaghetti," according to our waiter. I know why it was fast. It included about half a diced tomato, three basil leaves cut up, and some olive oil. The parmesan and red pepper flakes we sprinkled over it had more taste than the spaghetti. The only other reason I could imagine they called it quick spaghetti is that we all quickly developed a sense of regret for coming here. To sum this up, if you use chicken broth as a major component to a dish, do it well. If you make a simple spaghetti, do it well. If you use tortellini in a dish, use good tortellini. If you want good Italian food, dont go here. If you savor regret and hate flavor, go here.

To be clear, we ate at Il Giorgione on Saturday night and it was OUTSTANDING. I would give it 10 stars if I could. We are from the NY/NJ area and the food was simply fabulous. We were in Columbia assisting with a relocation to the Lexington/Columbia area and couldnt fine a decent place for Italian food ----- and then we tried Il Giorgione. What a stroke of luck for us. The owners, George and Monica, are wonderful people who created an authentic Italian restaurant that can go head to head with any Italian restaurant in Manhattan or Northern New Jersey. George makes his own fresh Mozzarella and he learned the technique from Hoboken chefs (and he drizzles it with a Balsamic glaze); obviously you cant believe the taste, it is to die for. The grilled vegetables were served warm with some homemade focaccia which was perfect. We then had the pizzas. They were perfect and delicious. Crispy and thin. Everything was washed down with a few glasses of Molise wine and the evening was delightful. Monica and George graciously spent some time with us telling us about the area and just chatting about their relocation to South Carolina and how great Italian food in general is. George is from Hoboken so his reference for great Italian food is A+; hence his restaurant is soooooo good. Waste no time in going to Il Georgione..., run dont walk, to the best Italian food in South Carolina. You will always go back. I know we will. Kudos to George and Monica.

Ever since this place opened my company has been a faithful client - ordering large meals and going to this establishment for work lunches. Since we liked the place so much, we decided to have a celebration there and were extremely disappointed with the way we were treated. With a headcount of 14, we asked if we could have another table so that we could add 6 more people. The owner was the one that was attending to us and had a horrific attitude; almost like we were asking them for a favor. She was very huffy and obviously had little interest in making us feel wanted at her restaurant. As if this were not enough, the food wasnt brought out all at once. We even had to leave before one of our group had received his meal. When we asked to owner to box our food as we really could not wait any longer, she once again was huffy and seemingly disgusted. Hopefully this review will encourage the owner to rethink her behavior - but in case not - I would encourage others to seek out somewhere that values their customers.

do NOT go there if you have gluten allergies. we called ahead of time, they had GF pasta. i had a pizza and it was good. my wife ordered GF pasta, and a bowl of VERY nonGF pasta came out with a hunk of bread in it. she immediately returned it, waitress said she was sorry. now, youd think the manager would just send out a salad, or a glass of wine while she was waiting (really, what does that cost?)... nope. the waitress came out only once, while i and our friends ate, saying "itll be out in a minute!" youd think the manager would be on the kitchen staff to get the pasta out ASAP... nope. my wife went in to complain, but the manager was unconcerned, borderline rude. the manager did ask if my wife wanted a salad, but by that point she was really mad, and didnt want it. the pasta comes out, cooked incorrectly, hard as a rock. youd think a nice place like this would know how to cook GF pasta... nope. EDIT: after contacting the place directly, they offered a free dinner if we come back. they care.

The people that wrote poor reviews of the food at Il Giorgione probably think the Olive Garden and Carrabbas are real italian. I am Italian and lived in italy for many years. I have never been able to find a place in Columbia with good, authentic Italian food until Il Giorgione. They have not only the best ITALIAN food but I think the best food period in Columbia. If you want real, home cooked food then you will love this place. If you think Applebees and Ruby Tuesdays and other chains like that is good food, then you may as well just go to a place like that because you dont know good food anyway. Il giorgione is a gem to the city and I love it!

Il Giorgione is hands down the best restaurant in Columbia. It has a neighborhood friendly feel, with the owners George and Monica, who are there every night to welcome you to the restaurant. The food is AMAZING. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu! Try the house-made mozzarella, made fresh daily, or any of the house-made gelatos. I cant get enough of this place!!! The service is amazing and George and Monica are the sweetest people ever. Best authentic Italian food. Feels just like a night in Italy!

Having traveled to Italy many times, I agree that if you know true Italian food, then this is the place for you! The in-house made mozzarella is wonderful as are the fresh gelato and sorbetto! Pizzas are thin and tasty and the pasta dishes range from comforting to spicy. And the atmosphere is outstanding - small and intimate where you can actually hear the conversation with your party! Treat yourself to a nice lunch or dinner here and experience European dining at its best.
