What a disappointment. We had 8 orders to place for delivery, and I spent 30 minutes trying to call, to be met with a busy tone each time. I finally spent my lunch hour driving to the restaurant, scouring for a parking spot, and waiting in a small cramped space for the one "to-go" counter person to take my order. Prompted about the busy tone for nearly 40 minutes (called again 3x on the way to Broad St as my hopes for a parking spot dimmed), she simply said "yeah, we hear that every day. we just have one phone line." Once Id placed the order, she asked whether Id just like it delivered anyway, since Id otherwise stand around waiting for half an hour in a packed dining room with nowhere to sit/stand. I agreed, and the food arrived about 30 min. later. Most items seemed fine, but the curry chicken salad plate I ordered was an embarrassment, and not at all worth the price charged. A half-layer of mixed greens, 3 pieces of pineapple, 4 mandarin orange slices, and a very, very small scoop of chicken salad. It all slid freely around in the standard-sized take out box, reiterating how paltry the serving size was. A coworker confirmed her egg salad plate had had nearly twice the amount of food. Flavor of everything was good, but the experience was so infuriating I do not plan to ever order from here again. Would 2 phone lines, a voicemail to acknowledge waiting patrons, and/or enabling online orders be too much to ask? Nevermind establishing a uniform portion size. So many other restaurants on the peninsula have overcome or avoided these issues, and reaped a loyal, appreciative customer base as a result. If the folks at Brown Dog aim to keep their lunch business strong, theyll need to address these problems.

Located downtown so parking can be hard to find, we lucked out and found a metered spot right in front of the restaurant. We were greeted when we entered and seated promptly. Its a pretty cool unique downtownesqe type place, kind of small but thats to be expected. They have a lot of options for vegetarians/vegans which was nice. I ordered the philly and potato salad and it was delicious. The potato salad had bacon crumbles on top of it, it also has the skins in it (which I like) so keep that in mind if you dont like potato skins. The philly had a good taste to it, wasnt too dry and the bread was good. My wife had the vegetarian not-chicken sandwich and macaroni salad and she loved it. She let me have a bite and it had the same texture and taste of a processed chicken patty, but it was seasoned and cooked and topped perfectly. The macaroni salad was al dente which was a nice surprise since a lot of places overcook the noodles. Would recommend this place, and will definitely be going again.

Excellent. I had the Zorba the Greek salad with chicken. Chicken was very tender and moist. Sometimes in salads chicken can be over cooked and tough. Dressing was a oil and vinegar with feta and was very tasty. My husband had Pig and Fig. He said the addition of the crunchy apple slices in the sandwich was very different and quite delicious. To drink I had a blackberry tea lemonade which was very refreshing and tart. We also had a side broccoli salad which came with the sandwich. It had golden raisins, nuts and a very good dressing which was not overly sweet. Although warmish and not air conditioned, a couple of fans kept the dining area acceptable. The service was pleasant and we did not wait too long. The place was packed and had a line outside waiting. The recommendation came from a woman who works at one of the houses we toured. She says they order food from them at least a few times a week.. I can understand why that is so.

I would give it a lower rating if I could. My party and I felt so mistreated in this restaurant that even the food didnt seem appetizing anymore. Its true, it does get really packed at lunch time! Dont come during lunch time, or just take your order to go. My dad put his name in so that we could get seated inside. Keep in mind that its not a very big place. It got busy and we were hungry from walking a lot that day. The server was calling peoples parties by name, and actually called the party that came in after us first. Its really upsetting because we were waiting very patiently. Then after my dad told the waiter, he gave us an attitude the rest of the time and I got embarrassed to be there. The server we had didnt say any nice inviting words, which made us feel even worse. Absolutely disgusted with this Deli, I would never come back again.

this was the third time I had ordered from Brown Dog, it has always been a disaster. It is a shame because the food is pretty good, but it has taken them an hour and a half to deliver to me every time. My work is literally 2 blocks away and in the emails they send after you place an order states that it will take up to 45 minutes for your food to arrive. Also, today the delivery driver said he could not find my gallery, when we have multiple signs and coverings and no suite number on the building, I do not understand how he could have got lost. Second, the salad that I ordered today had about three pieces of grilled chicken and same for the ingredients that were remembered to be put on the salad. I try to be understanding but this is the third time with the same disappoints. I would not recommend Brown Dog to anyone.

Wow. One of our favorites visits in Charleston if only for how low key yet delicious the food is. Tons of choices from salads to sandwiches are there to whet your appetite. And the locals seem to flock here which only makes it better. My wife had the cold cut Italian sandwich which is amazing. It gave me food envy, not that my chipotle chicken salad was bad. The place gets very crowded at lunch time. But thats because its good. So go, you wont be disappointed!

Our food was delicious- hot dogs huge for the kiddos, an amazing black bean burger, and the Reuben was the best in 5 years. Quite cramped and we were able to store our stroller at the front (it is a double and wouldnt fit thru the restaurant). A team member helped us thru the door - and we got seated next to another party at an adjoining table. food was timely and our server was attentive and sweet. Yummy

Extremely disappointing. There was no printed childrens menu, so the waitress yelled what they had (over a very loud room) to our child who then had to make a quick decision - not something moat kids so well at restaurants. We had to flag her down twice for refills and she spent most of our meal folding napkins staring off into space. The food was good, but everything else really brought our experience down.

Great food. They do beer too, although I never ordered it. Probably the coolest place to eat around there. And its the only place where you can get any sandwich as a vegan version. Although, the bread isnt vegan, so its really just veggie. Bit of a misnomer. Apart from that, its great. Although, there is always a lunchtime rush, and a bit of a wait if you time it wrong. And there is only one toilet.
