VERY arrogant management: My wife and I use to go here often and enjoy the outdoor seating. We ate here recently and there was a problem with my wifes meal. Considering the circumstances it was not the servers fault and is an easy task that could have been handled by management. After the meal we were so saddened by the ignorance to approach us that we left and called the manager on the way home. She told us she acted fairly - we disagreed and asked for the GM to call us. That never happened. I called four days later and asked to speak to the GM, I left a message and I was ignored again. Four Dogs is a nice place, scenery-wise. It is too expensive in my eyes ($16 for a chicken sandwich is a little much), but the arrogance is inexcusable. Its a real shame because all of this is 100% avoidable. I felt that my voice did not matter to the management here so I will use the internet to get the message out - I gave them two chances and was ignored so I did not just go straight to an internet rant.

We have been patrons of the Four Dogs for almost 25 years. This has been our "go to " place for almost every important event in our lives. Consistently, the food and ambiance have been exceptional. I have never found a place more like "Cheers" than Four Dogs! However, recently, the service experience has been less than acceptable. Tonight we had "Sarah W." Although friendly and cheerful, Sarah W. had a pattern of mystically disappearing for inordinate periods of time. What should have been a 2 hour dining experience was 3 and a half due to Sarah Ws disappearing acts. It was a 15 minute wait to just get the credit card back and sign the check. Any longer, and we would have been sleeping over! This is not unlike the previous 3-4 experiences. Here is the rub in food service.....great service makes a mediocre food experience 5 star. Poor service makes 5 star dining feel like dining in the food court at the mall. I hope management makes some changes soon!

Just ate there last night. The restaurant is very nice and the waiter was good (until the end when he was no where to be found). Just had beers and apps because honestly their dinner selection wasnt great. So we ordered crab nachos, potato skins, and chicken quesadillas. The crab nachos werent nachos they were for large pastry resembling a nacho that had no taste (which we told our waiter about). All you could taste was the oil from the crab. The quesadillas and skins were good. However each appetizer was $10 bucks which was steep we thought. But for 4 quesadillas, 4 nachos, and a plate fill of potato skins with just sour cream (no chives or scallions) we thought it was high for $30 dollars. To top it off we found a dog hair in the beer and the silverware was dirty. Good location just too bad they cant work on their prices or food. It was our first and last time going there.

The most current review I read was about three months ago. We stopped recently because we have eaten several times years ago at the Marshallton Inn and were passing through around lunch time. So, we thought we would try Four Dogs. How disappointing. In fairness, we chose not to eat because of a health condition for me. The service seemed adequate (as much as was experienced). But the prices were outrageous! $17.00 for a grilled Reuben! Are you serious? Lunch for two would have been around $60.00 with tip. And, the environment was nothing to write home about. And, definitely needed cleaning. Only about 10 people there for lunch? I can understand...Take this one off your list. Dont bother! To bad trip advisor doesnt have this on there list. Everyone who gave it four stars-revisit please.

The best mushroom soup and crispy chicken in a very wide area of West Chester... Four Dogs has been our favorite spot to stop by after canoeing at Northbrook Canoe since about two summers ago...and weve been coming back every time. The atmosphere inside or outside is excellent and they have a good selection of beers, too. The food is delicious and generous (except, maybe the gazpacho soup :)) You can also bring your dog while dining outside, which is a big draw for some. The interior is very unique, since its an old barn converted to a mid-to-high-end restaurant.

The theme of the reviews about this place are really accurate here. The food is very good, the problem with this restaurant is the service. The staff seem to be able to focus on one table at a time and then run run run back to take care of that table. Very scatter brained. Sometimes you have to ask for things three times in order to get them and its never consistent on service, and they dont even remember that you asked before. Enjoy the food and the atmosphere and just realize the service is kind of like being in a Third World country.

Ive been to 4 dogs a few times. The food is always delicious. A bit pricy. Great secluded location. Beautiful building and atmosphere, but... The graffiti in the bathroom and the lack of maintenance to take 15 minutes to paint over it, really takes away from the charm. There were 2 Nazi lightning bolts carved into the wall above the urinal... Plus an assortment of graffiti tags. Thats ridiculous. I took my belt off and scraped away carving, youre welcome. I get it, managing a resturant is tough, but image is profound.

I am obviously in the minority here, but I dont see the appeal of this place. Although the building is quaint, the place is typically crowded, feels like a tourist trap and subsequently the service reflects the busy pace. All that aside, the menu is limited and extremely overpriced for what you get. Sixteen dollars for a chicken sandwich with some grapes and $17 for a small flatbread with no sides? Food quality overall is ok, but I fail to understand all of the enthusiasm for this place.

For many years, dining throughout Chester County, I always compare my experience to the Four Dogs / Marshallton Inn experience. Consistency comes to mind, always the best seasonal soups, appitizers, excellent beer / wine / liquor list, and fresh entrees with the best specials nightly. Dont waste time, if you want the a consistent excellent dining experience, just go here.

We have lived in the area for 10 years and this is our favorite place. The service and food are great!!! We enjoy sitting out in the alfresco dinning area and enjoy the bucolic, pastoral quality of the area. The Brandywine River Valley is a remarkable place and 4 Dog Tavern is part of the identity of the area. Our number 1 place to dine!

I went there yesterday and sat outside on a beautiful October day. We both had an octoberfest beer on tap that was cold and tasty. We split 3 apps. Coconut Shrimp, Pizza, and Crab Nachos. All were amazing. Well flavored, and nicely presented. This is a great little place for a nice sunday get-a-way. I will be going back for more!

First of all, this place has a great look and feel. Sadly, that is the only thing this place has going for it. The food is just plain bad. There is no other way of putting it. Additionally, the prices are absolutely outrageous, especially when considering the quality of the food. The menu is also hard to get excited about.
