The Coney. What you see is nearly what you get -- a time capsule from when coal was still king in a huge way in bustling Shamokin. Its a hole in the wall, to be sure, but dont mistake the wear and tear for dirt and grime -- the place has changed little since its inception nearly 100 years ago. The menu is simple: hot dogs and hamburgers with Big Bens soft drinks in glass deposit bottles from local Catawissa Bottling Company. For me, its always three dogs, two with "everything" (the Coney-style beef sauce topping and diced onions) and one with just cheese. Plus a birch beer or two, in craft style, and my favorite soft drink of all time, partially because of the unparalleled taste coming from a thick, heavy glass deposit bottle. Its good food, and simple food, and you pay accordingly. But the value is in the entire experience, from food to accouterments to its storied past. The trappings are simple -- indestructible old tables, light and sturdy ancient wooden chairs. Simple and clean bathroom. The phone booth is still there, though the pay phone left years ago. If you can, peek in the store room in the back for some gorgeous wooden floors and wood-sided walk-in cooler. Close your eyes and you can almost smell the coal smoke and hear the chugging Reading Railroad and Pennsylvania Railroad engines that once rumbled past this local watering hole. You can imagine the dapper flappers swinging in for a late-evening snack. This is an iconic, living piece of Shamokin history and worth the visit.

Coney Island style hamburgs and hot dogs are an acquired taste. If you like them, youll love this Coney! True story: Coney Island takeout was my grandfathers last meal some 36 years ago. We assumed he died happily. My wife does not allow me to enter the Coney wearing a "nice" coat or sweater. The smell of fried onions is overpowering. Coal Region interpretation of "Coney Island style" is better than the Detroit interpretation.

We figured we would try this place since we just moved here it was nasty. For one all they had was burgers and hot dogs . Two the cook did not wear gloves or a hair net. The burger was very small and the stuff they put on top tasted bland and gross we will not be going back or recomending to any one else to go there

Place has nothing in common with Coney island other then the sign. The place needs to upgrade the quality of the food, burgers are sub standerd so are the hotdogs. The cook didnt wear gloves and no hair net.

The atmosphere of this place is incredibly unique. Hot dogs with chili and onions are a must. The lady serving our group of 10 adults and 5 kids was extremely helpful and nice to us. Fantastic!

Very unsanitary, portions of food are very little for the price. Should not be called coney island lunch. It has nothing to do with coney island lunch.

Hotdogs were good. Service wasnt that good. One waitress was rude about our bill. When we had asked a simple question. Unfortunately will not go back.

Its always a pleasure to see Billy, and all the employees there. Still the greatest Coney style restaurant in Pennsylvania.

They only had old burgers and dogs with a greasy burnt onion slop topping. Dingy. Also the hours they have posted are wrong
