Update: So I tried them again thinking it was just the one woman. I ordered take out this time with no substitutions but its turns out its not just the one server who isnt meant for the restaurant industry. Warning, if you order for take out, make sure you show up 10 minutes earlier than what they say or they will leave your food on the counter to get cold. I was told 20 minutes, got there in less than and my food was already cold. When asked why, the woman behind the counter said she didnt know and shrugged her shoulders...like really? Cold eggs kinda suck! $7 for a cold chewy breakfast sandwich? I gave you guys more than a fair shot, too bad bc of location and the sometimes great food I had there, but never again Original post: This place is great, sometimes...usually the staff is friendly and helpful, except for one of the servers who seems to get a thrill out of saying no to guests. Everyone else has no problem with a slight change of the bread selection, but this one server has refused or been argumentative every time I order from her. As someone who has been in the service industry for almost 20 years, its a shame that she feels the need to power trip over bread selections

Walked in waited to be seated no instruction as to whether you are to seat yourself or wait to be seated. Ask the redhead waitress she said sure sit anywhere which we did and ended up waiting for about 15 minutes to watch folks coming in after us be attended to while no one even bothered to look our way so we decided to leave as I felt some type of prejudice or sense of I dont belong. Guess my money wasnt good enough for this place. The folks being attended to did appear to enjoy themselves so I guess that counts for something, too bad we cant judge for ourselves. This happened on Feb 5, 2016..

I work a few blocks away and love stopping by for some lunch. I always get their Veggie burger and when they have vegan soups available Ill get the half soup, half sandwich deal (fills me up every time!). They are always so friendly and never hesitate to customize your order. While they may be a bit pricey, I think theyre in line with other restaurants/cafes in the area and the quality is top-notch. They also have free wi-fi and many clean, bright places to sit and relax or have a meeting. Try the cucumber lemonade its delicious!

The chi milkshake and black bean burger was delicious. However, customer service was poor at best. The woman at the cash register (jen) was obviously overwhelmed and irritated by interacting with costumers. I would recommend costumer service training and professional development opportunities for this particular worker as she appeared to struggle managing a small volume of costumers and had a panic attack while taking orders from costumers. Besides jen, all other workers were pleasant and friendly.

This venue had a bad rap from the lousy coffee shop that was here before Soup Kitchen, but these guys have found their place and are working hard. I love the custom egg sandwiches (the guy remembers the nit-picky things about my order), and the shakshuka soup is sooo great. If youre an early bird and like great food to start your day off right, put this place on your map.

Its been a great place for a long time and only getting better! Its easier to tell you what isnt good and thats basically nothing. I used to live close by and so I had the luxury of trying many soups, sandwiches, and dessert items. Everything was great and consistently so. My favorites include the griddle brownie, house breakfast sandwich, and the pulled pork sandwich.

The location has a home feeling and the staff are very friendly. The food options are limited, but that makes each meal delicious because they have perfected the recipe. Its a great place for a quiet morning coffee and breakfast sandwich. Good for a small group of friends or a business lunch.

Love the food here but they are always SO SLOW. Half the time I get an order to go, theres something wrong with it. Im just going to have to learn to make the food myself because every time I step in this place it takes 4 times as long as it should.

Amazing soups and sandwiches especially the crab cake sandwich. Remember to leave room for their griddle brownie! Like nothing you have ever had. Light chocolatey flavor that leaves your taste bugs dancing and asking for seconds.
Enjoy!

I got soup to go and two San pelegrinos. It came to over 16 dollars. The soup was good but I got two cup size containers not even full and no bread for that price. Still hungry but I already blew my lunch budget.

Read these reviews and went to try it myself. Really particular but excellent menu and cafe spot to chill. Feel good food that tastes great - my only complaint is the limited seating.

I stopped by to try the new brunch menu ive been hearing about. Instead I ended up having an amazing asparagus soup. Whatever these folks are doing they seem to be doing it right.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup was so good, I need to go back and try more from the menu. Went there based on a recommendation from a friend and it was so worth it ...cool spot

Really love the food, nice little place to eat, but they need to work on their phone ordering. Every time I call Im put on hold for 10+ minutes. Sometimes I just give up.

I got the spicy black bean soup and cucumber lemonade. It was the most delicious and satisfying meal Ive eaten there. Service was great. 100% am going to return again!

Tasty food, good price for quality. But poor service. Had an odd/disturbing experience that would probably turn into a public confession if I went any further.

This cafe is WONDERFUL!! Food is top notch - seriously, a better meatloaf sandwich I have yet to find. Also I should mention that pricing is stunningly good.

Best restaurant in Philly. Whether you want classic soup or something more adventurous, these guys have it. If you get the chance, try the Caldo Verde!

I thought the soup here was great. It is a lovely cafe with hip people. I think it can be a little pricey, but great food.

Service can be lacking if there are more than a few patrons. Other than that I love going to Soup Kitchen Cafe.
