One of my favorite restaurants in Old City, which might sound strange since its listed as a "pub". When you first walk up, youll be confused as to what kind of place or ambiance they are going for ... "Khyber Pass"... is it going to be Yak butter tea? Some kind of...asian? Or... But no! Walk in is a long dark bar, perfect to pull up a stool and drink a cold one. The dining area is to the right and everytime I go their food is spot on. Its kind of random, but they definitely specialize in two areas - vegetarian ( or vegan? ) and southern / New Orleanian. Either way, the food is always stellar. Why did it drop one star? Because Ive rarely had great service. The server is often. I dont know - brusque? In a rush? Busy? More times than not, theyre just...not as friendly as such a cozy dark spot would seem like they would be.

I had a great time there tonight. In town for work by myself, I stopped in, the place had a very good vibe to it. Great place to go have a drink. They had a large selection of craft beers on tap, and their food was awesome. I had the pulled pork barbeque, and let me say, it was probably the best barbeque Ive had north of the Mason-Dixie line. I should know, Im from NC. They had NC (vinegar based), SC (mustard based), and Kansas (ketchup based) sauces. I had the fried okra and hush-puppies with it. The hush-puppies were MD style, the fried okra was very good, fried in a crispy-crunchy batter. The other items on the menu looked very good as well, it was a tough choice. I would go there again next time Im in this part of town, and would recommend it. Doesnt look like too much from outside, but man was it good!

Nothing says kickass like a sweet menu and solid craft beer selection, all with a cool vibe in the heart of Old City! On a recent weekend jaunt in Philly (and in-between countless sightseeing destinations), my friend and I wandered over here, lured in by the dark ambiance and plenty of available seats up at the bar We ordered the smoked duck sandwich with a mac&cheese side, and when we informed the bartender that we were splitting the sandwich, he was kind enough to literally split the sandwich onto two separate plates, complete with two accompanying cups of the aforementioned side dish too. Split in half or not, this was one of the best duck experiences Ive ever devoured.

I was in Philly for the Stotesbury Regatta. On my bike on a Thursday night in busy old town Philly looking for a place for a good beer and good food. I was steered in the direction of Khyber Pass. What a find! A homey, comfortable pub atmosphere. Crowded and loud, but every place in the area was. I was seated immediately and a very attentive waitress appeared within a minute or two to take my order. After taking her recommendation of a spinach salad w/chicken, my food came out in less than 7 minutes. Salad was great. Considering how busy the place was, so was the service. Ill be back.

We stopped in Khyber for my best friends Bachelorette Party & hung out upstairs.. But when the bachelorette tried to use the bathroom downstairs (which you needed a cover to get into) she thought the bouncer was rude to her, so we left. I would have had a bad impression of Khyber but then, the bouncer Jason went out of his way to find us stumbling around the street outside, apologize, invite us back in and buy us all a round of drinks!! Very stand up thing to do. We stayed there for 40 minutes & had a blast. Khyber is definitely a place Ill go again!

One of my favorite spots in the city! They have delicious vegan dishes (the BBQ chicken po boy is my personal favorite). Very large and filling dishes for great prices. Its a great mix of soul, bar, and dinner food. There is something for everyone at this place whether you eat meat or not and no ones dish will be lacking in flavor. Great service, everyone here is extremely friendly! I love how the bar area is separate from the cozy dining area. The layout and decor make this place a go-to for nice dinners, casual lunches, or just a beer. Love it!

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. I would gladly eat the Fried Shrimp Po Boy every day for the rest of my life (Id just have to get really comfortable with the idea of elastic waist pants forever). Love their rotating draft list; they always have a fantastic selection. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, too. It used to be a divey (fantastic) rock club and now its one of the best restaurants in town. Didnt see that one coming but man, oh man...Im glad it happened.

I grew up in Louisiana and Florida. One thing Ive missed is good southern food. My friends and I went for a Sunday brunch and were blown away by the food and service. I got the fried chicken with a big ass biscuit, collards, and Mac and cheese. Best fried chicken Ive had in a long time. My wife had the crayfish etouffee. I had a bite and it brought me right back to when I was little. I would definitely recommend this place. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable.

Came here for lunch on a Friday. Dont be fooled by the outside décor - its a great place for a weekday lunch! What other pub has this many delicious vegan options? I got the VEGAN bbq pulled pork sandwich, which was really good on its own. BUT it also came with a side, and I of course went with the baked mac N cheese, which was also great. Service was a little slow, and it did take some time for our food to come out (hence the 4 stars), but the food made it worth the wait.

Khyber is one of my favorite places in the city. Dont let the divey-ness fool you- their food is amazing and veggie-friendly. The mac and cheese is a highlight; the perfect portion at the right price. I also love that they serve brunch everyday- their tofu scramble is one of my favorite things to get. It tends to be pretty dark in there so you may need a flashlight, but if youre looking for good Southern/ vegetarian food and a solid beer, Khyber is a sure bet.

Went there when in town for the Broad Street Run. Friend raved on and on about how good the fried chicked was. She was so right. The portions were generous, fried perfectly. The mashed potatoes were to die for, generous portion, and soon everyone at the table was eating them off my plate!!! The caesar salad was tasty, just enough dressing and greens were fresh. All in all, a place I would go out of my way to visit again.

Fantastic po boys. Enough said. The surf and turf is a little pricier, but its definitely the way to go, especially with a side of mac and cheese (included). This spot can be a little loud at night (true to its heritage), but its a fun spot for dates with food off the beaten track and service with a smile. There can be a wait for tables during busy periods.

The food was so good that my 5 and 7 year old girls who usually eat nothing, loved it. I had a stomach virus and only was able to eat the chicken and rice soup with a big ass biscuit and it was still delicious. The service was great and if I could drink, there were a ton of beers to choose from..well be back when Im feeling better thats for sure!!!
