Very disappointing. Went in for the Friday buffet. As a general rule there is very little on the bar, they keep approx 2 portions worth of each variety. On this particular visit we waited more than 30 mins for them to refill the fried rice, sweet/sour chicken, gen tso, and chicken/broccoli . The lo-mien was the dried up stuff found on the lip of the container. Constantly being spooned to center to make it look like there was stuff in there. The steamed shrimp were sparse. I asked the Lady, who is always there, if they would soon be refilling the bar, she acted surprised when she noticed empty containers. (she walked by them at least 6 times to ring customers at register) Our waitress made the comment we shouldve come in earlier when everything was "fresh". The buffet hours are 5-8:30, we were there from 6:45 to 8:15, guess we should have gotten there at 5:00! Under normal circumstances they give a dish of ice cream at end of meal, we werent offered the ice cream and they didnt bring our bill till I got up and stood at register. This used to be my favorite Chinese place, doubt we will go back. There are too many options in this town to have a disappointing meal. I didnt leave a tip. (Ive never left a waiter/waitress without a tip prior to this) If you have your heart set on Forbidden City then do yourself a favor and get it to go......

The best Chinese restaurant Ive ever been to. My husband and I have been eating chinese for years (he, basically his whole life) and have tried a bunch of different Chinese restaurants in the area...but we decided to go to Forbidden City just a few weeks ago and were so pleased with the buffet and the meals...everything not only tasted great, but LOOKED like real food. No fake looking colors (sweet and sour sauce is NOT supposed to look bright red!) or questions of what we were eating. Everything is so quality. Ive never seen such quality at a Chinese restaurant before. You can tell the chefs KNOW what they are doing and they CARE about presentation and quality. After eating here, my husband and I dont like going anywhere else now. Also, the waiter, Brian, is SO on top of things (and very friendly). We came in one evening at prime time (5pm) for dinner and the restaurant was completely full and he was taking care of EVERYONE with such accuracy and care (poor guy - but i guess hes used to it haha). We just came in right before the buffet closed and he made sure I got what I wanted (fresh) when things started to run out on the buffet line. I really appreciated that. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Forbidden City. Its truly a hidden gem. 10/10 easily.

Amazing! My husband and I were in town for his brothers wedding and we were in the mood for Chinese. We entered "Chinese in Hanover, Pa" into google and I saw this review second or third from the top. I suggested this one and we are EXTREMELY GLAD WE PICKED THIS restaurant! The service was friendly, service fantastic. It is by far the cleanest Chinese restaurant/buffet we have ever been to. We cant say enough about how excellent everything was, right down to the cutlery, it looked so clean and they even place fresh tablecloths after you are done at your seat (we saw them do this to a few tables where the party had just left). It is all just wonderful to say the VERY LEAST!!!

Our favorite of the "traditional" asian restaurants in Hanover. We order takeout quite often, and consistency is excellent, as is the quality. When arriving for the buffet, youll note that it certainly isnt the largest, but it is again our favorite due to the quality. If youre equally impressed by flavor rather than quantity in terms of a buffet, youll appreciate Forbidden City. Ill also note that they are quite willing and happy to adjust items on the menu. My vegetarian daughter orders the hot and sour soup with no meat and using a water based broth, and its still excellent.

Pros: - Very friendly staff - Peaceful, quiet environment - Thee best Chinese in the area, hands down. My wife and I now go here regularly and cannot recommend it enough! They use higher quality ingredients than other places in town, and you can taste the difference! - For what you get, the prices are very reasonable (R.H. Sheppard employees get a 10% discount!) Cons: - Some of the booths need replaced due to being sunken in and are not comfortable at all! Overall rating: 9/10

10/15/16 Got takeout from this place today... the absolute worst Chinese food i have ever had! General chicken was processed junk covered in a bland sauce with onions and peppers! Wheres the vegetables? We ended up throwing away 90% of the 30$ food order we got tonight after i ended up getting sick from the little bit i did eat. will say the crabmeat wantons are good... definitely not good enough to ever eat here again!

Really disappointing. There was a very limited option and what was there was less than good. They were out of sushi and when I asked if they would be bringing more out they said no when the one pan is gone they dont make more. They were also out of chicken wings and other items. I kind of felt like I was getting half of what I was paying for. I will not be returning.

My husband and I went for dinner, there was barely anything on the buffet and what little food there was, was literally dried up. We had to ask for food to be put out. We ate like 4 pcs of sweet and sour chicken and noodles, we had to ask for them to bring us drinks and we paid $12 EACH! ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC. will not be returning!

This place is the best Chinese food in town. Buffet is limited but very good and fresh not like cookie cutter Chinese buffets . Owner is wonderful and works hard to give best meal for the price. Seating is great not like most Chinese places in strip malls. This is the best old style Chinese restaurant in York/Adams county

I have been eating at/ordering out from Forbidden City for many years. I have always had wonderful food and excellent service from the staff. I thoroughly enjoy the General Tsos chicken. My only complaint is if I go anywhere else, I expect the quality to match that of Forbidden City and I leave feeling disappointed.

Had the buffet dinner there the other night. Microwaved frozen food dinner would have been better. The worst Asian food I have ever had. Nothing tasted fresh. The restaurant interior was cheap and terrible. Even the tablecloths looked like they needed to be replaced. We will not be returning.

The atmosphere is incredibly soothing and the staff very chivalrous. The food was everything I was hoping for in quality of taste and tempurature and presentation. The best Chinese food option nearby, no contest.

This is by far my favorite chinese restaurant in york county. I compare every other chinese restaurant to Forbidden City...best eggrolls, General Tsos chicken, and great steamed dumplings.

Excellent food and service. Banana Daquries are amazing =) Very nice "old family restaurant" type setting. I do wish they had their buffet open more.

Old and worn inside but very clean. Food was good. Staff was nice. Take out service was very busy. Located next to mall in small stripmall.

I would not eat at any other Chinese restaurant in Hanover because I love Forbidden City so much. I have never been disappointed here.
