My husband and I have been going to Akis for years. I am more then slightly addicted to their Hibachi dinners and the yum yum sauce. I was a little surprised when they changed the menu and took away soup AND salad for the dinner, switched rices, etc. No big deal, I dont need all that food and brown rice is healthier. However, the next time I went back, it had switched again! I do look for a little more stability in a menu. Now, something changes whenever I do go back. I will say that the last time I was there, I got extremely sick. I had the same dinner as two other people at my table and they did not get sick, although my husband said he wasnt feeling good. He has a hardy stomach and can handle most bugs that take me out. I still will go back because I think I just got something from lack of proper food handling (i.e. vegetables) and the doctor said it was a one-in-a-million bug that i could have picked up from anywhere in the resturant. I always give restaurants 3 chances before I stop going. I still love this place even though I have had several times where my waiter refilled my clear soda with water when I wasnt looking or when they didnt understand me. I just may wait a while before I go back.

Ive been going to Aki since it opened. Its been a solid restaurant for the most part. The hibachi has always been excellent, and is always fun for a party of people. The sushi has always been fresh and delicious. Recently though the restaurant hasnt been as good, and the food and service is going down hill. On my last trip in I had three negative experiences. 1) I ordered hot green tea, and it came out luke warm. Not fresh and piping hot. 2) They mostly copied Kenzos lunch specials, and got rid of their own which I enjoyed. If I wanted Kenzos lunch special I would go there. 3) In the middle of my meal a wait person reached across the table to re-fill an almost completely full soy sauce container. Couldnt that have waited until I left? All in all its still ok, but I have almost no reason to go their now, except for maybe hibachi with friends.

I recently took 2 friends to this restaurant because my family and I had great experiences there many times before. I am vegetarian and requested to have everything in my bento box vegetarian. I wanted a avocado roll instead of the California roll that was offered. ( I had requested this switch numerous times before and they always obliged). This time the waitress informed me that the management would no longer switch items and I could either take the California roll or order something else. ??? - To say that I was embarrassed in front of my friends is an understatement. While we stayed there to eat our lunch - all of us decided to leave AKI off our list of restaurants in the future. I wrote a letter to them and never received an answer - Guess they are not too keen to hear from their customers - too bad for them!

Excellent food, excellent service. Admittedly, the staff may not know a ton of English, but it just adds to the peace and serenity of the atmosphere (you dont have a waiter/tress trying to make small talk with you to encourage their tip). The food comes out quick and the appearance always looks tip-top- almost like its being staged for a menu photograph. The taste is great, and they never let you run out of beer, tea, or whatever it may be that youre drinking. Love! If youre closer to Hagerstown, MD, consider Nikos in the shopping center - also great. (Suggest staying away from House of Kobe and the Ginger House... rude staff at the first and borderline food at the second)

We have sat at the hibachi table a couple of times and its a great time. Though its a bit cramped as they get you elbow to elbow with the person next to you, its a great experience. The food is very good and for the money, you get a good bit of food. I have seen people complain that the servers take plates as soon as you are done, but would you rather have servers like these other restaurants that seem to never show up and have you looking around for who is going to refill your drink? If you need someone to make you wait, Id try one of those other places. If you want attentive servers (which I can agree sometimes TOO attentive) this place has excellent food and atmosphere.

As far as you people complaining about the staff hovering, that is their culture. If you have to complain about that then stick to McDonalds. Their food is very good for those who appreciate it. Furthermore, you do not ever get a full glass of Chardonnay wine. It is served in small amounts for enjoyment. If you want to get drunk go to the bar and have a beer. I love going there and talking to the servers and the food is excellent.

The price may be a bit high for the area, but you pay for what you get. Compared to the other japanese and chinese restaurants in the area, this takes the cake. The hibachi chefs are amazing and I usually pick up some take out once a week. Aki only comes second on my list to PF Changs, and the nearest one is nearly 2 hours away. Great food, decent price, hard to beat the quality and service of Aki in this area.

Gestapo servers: Take your plate before youre finished. When you enter, the environment indicates that you will have a great lunch or dinner experience, but then come the servers. As they hover over you or at a near by wall, you begin to lose the relaxed enjoyment you entered with. The food is pretty, but tastes average. Too pricey, even with nice the presentation. There are so many better options than Aki.

We ordered 2 glasses of chardonnay and both glasses were less than half full. At 5.00 a glass, we felt completely ripped off. The sushi was average. The waiters stand by the walls constantly hovering about the tables waiting to clear dishes... it truly makes you feel rushed to eat and go. It is not relaxing at all.

My woman and I absolutely love this place! From polite and genuinely cheerful people, to among the best hibachi Ive ever eaten! Many of the hibachi chefs even remember my girlfriend, but not me for whatever reason..? 5/5 stars all in all.

Everything Ive ever had here is delicious. The hibachi is good (either at a grill or off the menu in dining), the sushi is good with great lunch specials, and the pad Thai is one of my favorites. The staff is always nice and attentive.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. A rare find. Everything was superb, and my family and I were very pleased with the quality of our experience. I wish we had a place like this near us, but alas, we were only passing through.
