This review reflects their customer service, not their cakes. Since I was a kid we have always purchased our cakes here. My mom wanted to purchase a birthday cake for me and was instructed by Anita that I could stop in and try a particular buttercream filling to see if I like it. Instead, an older woman with dark hair and glasses completely embarrassed me when I stopped in this morning. She said shes never even heard of that and I should try a doughnut if Im interested in their filling...but to let me know I had to buy it! I wasnt there to purchase a doughnut nor sample the entire menu, just something in particular and was told to stop down by your cake department. She made a huge scene, huffed and puffed and ran in the back. When she came out, she nearly threw the sample across the counter at me. Since she had such a nasty attitude right away, she didnt give me a chance to say peanut butter buttercream. She then accused me of wanting a scoop of peanut butter?! Why would someone even ask for a scoop of peanut butter in a bakery? She said shes never even heard of that buttercream. I was treated as if I were walking in for a handout and was completely mortified. I would never walk into any business and expect anything for free. The only reason I stopped in was because the cake department said it would be a good idea.

LOVE BB!! Been going here for years and the desserts are spectacular. The cakes have an icing that is like non other, its in between a Bettercream and a Buttercream (bettercream is similar to the icing on a Carvel cake or a Walmart cake... Smooth, thick and creamy, and must be refrigerated)(while buttercreams at bakeries can range from american style buttercreams that are actually made from butter and powered sugar, to buttercreams that are made with shortening...these tend to be thinner and may not have to be refrigerated). Then, you get your cake and its nice and flavorful and stays fresh tasting for longer than any cake I have ever eaten!! Moving on to the case: everything is amazing!! I would suggest a croissant, chocolate tea cookies, vanilla snowballs, or cream puff. Things that arent my favorite, the list is short bc its only two things, the Betholi (kind of a cannoli mixed with a cream horn), and the Red Velvet Gob (its basically 2 cookies with icing on the middle).

My husband got me a birthday cake yesterday. I LOVE cake. This was the worst store bought cake ever. Though, I do have to say the cake part was very moist and had a good flavor. My husband ordered my favorite - white almond and buttercream. He was assured by the clerk thats what it was. It wasnt. It was half chocolate and half yellow. The icing was horrible!! Usually they dont put enough on, but there was plenty. The problem was it had no taste. Tasted like plain Crisco with something waxy. Wasnt the least bit sweet. No butter. No vanilla. NOTHING. Was sooo bad. And I LOVE icing. Never again. I swear by Oakmont Bakery, Pastries a la Carte, and, Kriebels..though the latter has not been as good as they once were. If you like a sweet cake and icing, do not order from Bethel. He also got a buttercream doughnut, but the icing was the same bland, waxy icing. Not worth the premium price.

Every cake since my birth has come from Bethel Bakery, wedding cake too. Cake isnt my thing but I love BBs cake. Some people have told me they arent into the buttercream because its more oily than buttery, but I dont know it any other way. BB could use some new designs when it comes to customized cakes, if its not on their list of designs dont expect a lot of ideas from their team. Fortunately, it seems as though BB will allow anything to be created if you present the idea. Wedding cakes are still super traditional (boring). Would have been nice to have the option of watercolor or seen something new during our appointment. The cookies & other pastries are really good, I recommend trying one of everything.

This review is bitter sweet. I love Bethel Bakery cakes. But what I dont love is their miss communication and the way they treat their customers. I have bought several round cakes from there and they always get bumped on the side. When I say something the woman at the counter makes me feel like I am a bother. You should never feel like that when you are spending $50 for a 9 round cake. Then the last time I ordered a cake I went to pick it up on my husbands birthday with a house full of people and the cake was not ready. They said they had it for the next day! So I will never go here again!! Ever!

Got a novelty hamburger cake that was 3 layers of greatness. Truly the best icing I ever had! I love that this location is located along the T line too so you can hope right on and take a ride right to the bakery without driving. Looking in the cases to see what they have available is like an adventure. Fun to just look at everything...and eat! Great for Pittsburgh cookies and cakes too. Terrible towel and go or s sugar/shortbread cookies are that PERFECT consistency to chow down with coffee. I have some strong Bethel Bakery love!

Incredible bakery with everything under the sun you could ask for. Anything from cookies to wedding cakes are made on sight. Im a friend of the owners son, and I was able to take a tour behind the scenes. The facility is massive and very well kept. All the goods are made with care and are quite fresh. The staff is very friendly and talented, and the owners care deeply about providing a good product and upholding integrable business practices. Highly recommended.

Their customer service is the worst! The encounter I had with them last Easter would fill the page. I grew up 15 minutes from the bakery and was never impressed with their products. Cakes are very middle-of-the-road and decorating is fair; Icing is bland. Pass by BB and make the drive to Oakmont Bakery - the most fantastic cakes I have ever had in the burgh! Try the Oakmonter - part cheesecake, part chocolate dream.... True paradise!

I will not purchase a cake from anywhere else but Bethel Bakery! I ordered a cake for my daughters birthday a few years ago and I was supposed to pick it up on a Saturday. However, I had to work late on Saturday and did not get to the store in time. A Bethel Bakery rep called me Saturday night and offered to open the store on Sunday so that I could get my cake! Now thats service! As I said before, I will not buy a cake anywhere else!

Pastries galore here! If you have a need for sweets, bread, pastries, danishes, cookies, cakes, look no further. This local shop has been amazing for many years. Nut rolls, yum-yums, doughnuts...seriously. If you have 5 minutes extra on your drive go here. Customer service can help with everything. Be careful, theyll leave you coming back for more...or they could run out of the good stuff before you get there. Go early!
