This place seemed to get a good rating so my hubby and I decided to try it this morning for breakfast, we would have been better off going to the McDonalds across the street! We sat down and some young girl came to take our drink order, she brought them over quickly and then left. An older lady came over and took our food order. I ordered the 2 piece french toast, a scrambled egg, bacon, home fries and toast, my hubby ordered some kind of scramble with potatoes, green peppers, ham, and onions. While waiting for our food the waitress who took our order came over to our table, reached across it and then said "excuse me" while grabbing the syrup! WTF!! I almost got up and left, but for some reason I stayed! Our food came out not long after, it didnt look too appealing, but we dug in anyway. OMG! I dont think Ive ever had such a horribly bland meal! French toast is generally made with an egg mixture and a whole lot of cinnamon, this stuff they put in front of me was bread dipped in eggs and cooked, no flavor whatsoever, the syrup didnt even help it out! After managing to swallow a few bites of that I moved on to the plate with the eggs, bacon and home fries. I tried a small piece of the bacon and threw the rest on the plate with the pieces of french toast I didnt eat, store brand bacon tastes better than that stuff they served! I proceeded to add salt and pepper to my eggs and potatoes. I put ketchup on like I always do and mixed. I took a bite, the eggs were rubbery and even with the salt, pepper and ketchup it was flavorless! I added more salt and pepper took another bite and when that still tasted like crap I simply stopped eating. My hubby said his scramble was barely half way decent, he hardly ate anything from his plate. We received our check, had no clue what we owed because there was no total on it, took it up to the cashier to pay, the waitress then came up and said "did you not like the food?" I flat out told her it was the worst meal Ive ever had! My hubby told her that we were not impressed. She then took our check and crossed out most of the stuff so we ended up only paying $4 for breakfast, we appreciated it, not that this place was expensive, my french toast was around $3, the plate with eggs, bacon and potatoes around $4 and my hubbys plate around $5 plus a glass of OJ for around $1 or so, so over all we werent going to have spent a lot, but I still liked that they discounted our meal, Im sure in hopes that wed return and give them another chance. Now I know people are probably gonna say that for those prices you cant expect much, but even at those prices and as busy as this place was and the fact that its on a main street, I would think the food would be a lot better. Ive lived in PA now for almost 2 months, have tried quite a few diners and none of them have had that WOW factor making me want to return! Maybe its because Im from CA and Im use to food with flavor, but Im about to give up hope that Ill ever find a decent diner to go to! The best place weve been to so far for breakfast has been the Blue Sky Cafe, it was excellent, just the way a breakfast should be done! I will not be returning to Golden Gate Diner ever again!!! I wouldnt even recommend this place for a poor college kid!!!

do not go here if you have small children I have a 1 year old and a three yr old. they do get loud and my son got grease on the window from his meal the owner came out from the kitchen yelled at me and told me I needed to control my children then yelled at my children. afterward I complained to the hostess and the owner came back out of the kitchen and screamed at me an inch from my face. I would not recommend this place my worst enemy. the owner blame it on the customers complaining about my children. this is a diner not red lobster if you expect to be in complete silence you might want to do that in your living room. and the complete disrespect for women what is appalling. I have never been yelled at like that even from my husband. needless to say myself or my family will never be returning!

Been going here for years the prices are reasonable. I have never had an issue with the quality or quantity of food served to me. My experience vary depending on waitress morning and afternoon waitress are fast and friendly evening into 3rd shift waitress tend to be rude and not very customer friendly. Gus trys to keep his customers happy but, he is only one person and doesnt always know the truth of how his waitresses treat the customers, so remain calm when you explain your experience to Gus he works very hard to make your experience a good one by walking around asking you if everything is ok and asking if you need more to drink Gus aims to make his dinner family friendly.

I was lured into this place by the stellar reviews posted online and I and my boyfriend were pretty dissapointed. Our experience wasnt terrible, nor was it good - it was just okay. I ordered ravioli. The pasta tasted freshly made but the filling was a tad bland. My boyfriends chicken was very overcooked (do not order this if you have bad teeth!) and his fries were room temp and basic. The service was okay. Our waitress was very fast, but at some points we almost felt like we were being rush out - which made no sense, as it wasnt busy. What really turned us off was the place itself - very dated and dull. We wont be going back.

You know youve found a real diner when the waitress says that phrase. The waitress was super-friendly, going so far as to top off my grapefruit juice after Id taken a small sip, and deducting some change off my girlfriend and my meals when it turned out the coffee, which we werent even cognizant about, was gone. No, the food is nothing fancy, but it was tasty, the servings were healthy but not excessive, and the prices were appropriate- how many places can you get breakfast for two people under 15 bucks with tip, that isnt a drivethrough? I was just in town for a bicycle race, but if Im in the area again, Ill be back.

Great 50s vintage diner and, almost, 50s prices! + Great experience, friendly staff, well prepared and tasty food, great kids menu and wonderful (coffee associates) coffee. - service a bit slow (but just a bit) and portions on the light side. Overall - one of my favorites. My family and I will be back again and again. Update - I go to ALOT of diners. Every time I return to the Golden Gate I am struck that it is "winner and still Champion".

Extrealy awful experience... Where to start.... I ordered a omlet with extra cheese it came out with one slice of extrealy thin cheese in it. Home fries were practically green. Mountain dew is ill advised its light yellow and tastes like funky water. heres the jist of things. Its a dirt cheap diner. Your food is as cheap as it tastes. Btw its April 18th and there Easter decorations are still up :/ they really dont care much its obvious.
