An odd place. Ambience is lovely; that I cannot deny. Steak for asada was really tough and did not appear to have any normal asada marinade/flavors or, for that matter, salt. Eating vegan, veg, or GF is seamless here, but that means you will receive: quinoa, kale, garbanzo-white bean slop, and no more flavor than with the steak. The "chile relleno," which is somehow relleno por quinoa, is made vegan by subtracting the cheese, which is the only thing contributing flavor. The Caesar dressing has great, delicious, robust flavor -- just not that of a "Caesar." The tofu is fried Ota tofu and nothing more: no seasoning at all. I like protein, I like fried, and I like calories, too, but I like flavor too much to eat their "crisped sauteed tofu" as anything but sustenance or penance, like dumping a double scoop of flaxseed or whey powder on top of what otherwise would have been a tasty and already healthy dish. The tortillas were somewhere along the continuum of Mexican corn tortillas, arepas, and sopes. The fundido had great flavor, and the sauce was well-constructed and blended/heated, but I had no idea why it needed potatoes, sweet potatoes, or kale up in it, nor what was going on with the "local chorizo," which bore more resemblance in appearance and (lack of) taste/seasoning to Dominos "pork topping" than to either Spanish or Mexican chorizo. TLDR: Not every single dish needs quinoa, kale, and sweet potatoes, not even in Portland.

Got upstairs, wanted to sit together with my snuggledoll, but the table configurations were apart. Fine, I get this. Go downstairs, and we sit at the bar, where 2 people are being served by one very overworked bartendress. Again, I get it, its a busy Friday night. People entering and bumping into me every minute, alright, this they could probably change the layout for, but really I couldnt move much, the downstairs layout is just...awkward? So then we finally order, and another larger group comes in, orders, and they are served first. Had trouble getting the bartenders attention to say that we were ravenous, and wanted our appetizers also. Then we get the food, and Im not sure if they messed up the seasoning, or what, but the food had very little taste, but lots of heat. Not sure what was wrong there, weve had breakfast there before and been pretty impressed. Man and people coming in I just kept getting bumped into, which got old fast. They comped us for the oversight on our appetizer. Im just going to say this place is probably good on most days? However, they have some things to work out. Id give it 3.5 stars, because its somewhere between "OK" and "I liked it," but really the combination of everything not coming together makes me think they should reconsider the downstairs as a realistic seating space for dinner.

A go to spot for us. It seems to be one of the few restaurants with ambiance in Hillsdale and Multnomah Village area. Not only that, you dont feel terrible eating here. Their food is more of a healthy alternative to traditional Sonoran or Baja Mexican food. The tortillas come out fresh, so even my parents who only like flour tortillas were impressed by Verde Cocinas corn tortillas. We have been here for breakfast and dinner, and really the only difference is an egg at breakfast. The base flavors are still the same. One complaint, and it is one I have about the area compared to this restaurant in particular, is that this place shuts down around 9. We were those customers who were sitting outside enjoying themselves and then we realized all of the workers were watching us waiting for us to leave. Compare that to NW neighborhood where things dont shut down until around 11. We felt bad and a little embarrassed, which we dont enjoy. It isnt just here, it is anywhere in SW burbia areas.

This place never disappoints! Super tasty, healthy food, beautifully displayed and always made from scratch! We go to very expensive restaurants, but over and over again we come back, just to find out we get better more reliably excellent food here. Sitting at the bar we watch juices always being freshly squeezed, drinks made with much creativity, and watch the beautiful plates coming out of the kitchen. Upstairs a cozy place for families, downstairs at the bar, great happy hour values and nice chats with other guests or the bar tender. A wonderful place that keeps getting better and better, always trying to improve. Gratitude to the entire staff!!!

Entire restaurant is gluten free. I highly recomend the hand made corn tortillas with guacamole. The desert is always good and changes frequently, genetally only one option is available. I have had gluten free milk cake, gluten free and vegan cheese cake with a nut crust, and flan. All 5 stars! Their mole is amazing! Indoor seating is upstairs a very steep stair case with exception of the bar. I do not see how this restaurant could be compliant with disability access regulations. If stairs are an issue skip this gem. There is seasonal outdoor seating at the street level.

Known for their Vegan, Carnivore and Paleo-minded dishes and on-the-spot handmade corn tortillas, Verde Cocina Hillsdale makes the freshest, healthiest food with a Mexican twist. An easy walk from anywhere in Hillsdale, they have a complete bar and are known for their margaritas and signature salads. Try the Sweet Potato, Black Bean, & Kale Salad with chicken and a wonderful lime vinaigrette dressing or the Carne Asada Salad. Expect a short wait during peak hours. Also located on N. Mississippi, in the Pearl District, and near the zoo -- or at your local farmers markets.

Atmosphere: Very small, but a nice feel to it. Service: Fairly attentive, orders were correct, water filled, etc.. Food: Good quacamole, good salsas, good Seafood Special, Chicken Enchiladas lacked flavor, Quesedilla plate was quite small with very little cheese, all vegetables very good. Strawberry Margarita very small and barely average. Overall: A fun place to spend an evening, but hit and miss on the food and beverages. Overpriced in general. Would we go back? Possibly.

Do not spent 17.00+ Dlls in a wanna-be mexican imitation food.We went today and had the Tortilla Soup, mediocre can tomato flavor, sweet, not even close to the original.Guacamole was the only good dish, hand made Tortillas, not so great. Pork Quesadilla and Enchilada is a crossover of a salad full of chards, Carrots and a red sauce without any flavor. Believe me I was raise in Mexico and and please save your money & do not know how people are rating 4 stars

I seriously dont understand how they have such vibrant, colorful, veggie-filled dishes all year long. This place offers a great take on fresh Mexican/Latin food, and I love taking people here for the first time. Youll recognize lots of items on the menu, but wont be prepared for their interpretations of them, all of which are delicious. This is a particularly good choice for folks with special diets - vegan/vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free in particular.

Its not exactly Mexican food, but their vegetables and their recipes are above reproach. Its easy to taste the difference that fresh produce makes in the final result. The menu leans heavily towards vegetarian dishes, but some good meat dishes can be found, too. The upstairs dining room is lovely and airy in a way that one would never expect on walking in or walking past. This "Green Kitchen" makes some amazing things at any time of the day.
