As others have said, the staff here is great. Theyre not just "willing" to talk to you, but are usually downright delighted. This place has many, many regulars, and with good reason. The grilled sandwiches are fantastic, and they make their own pesto sauce from scratch. The coffee is good (not great), and they have beer! The wifi is free and fast enough to actually be useful (provided by Personal Telco). They have TWO clean, spacious, unisex bathrooms. The local artwork is rotated out quite regularly, so its always fresh, and always for sale. They offer a wide variety of coffee condiments as well. Theres plenty of seating ranging from wooden chairs, to leather couches. Getting a seat is occasionally a problem, but thats what happens when your cafe rocks. There are lots of tables and chairs, booths along the walls, and a conference table in the back. There are power plugs every 10 ft or so along every wall in the place. Parking is never a problem although its only free on Sundays or after 7 PM (if you park on the west side of 405 and walk 3 blocks, its always free). Their hours are good, but not written in stone. They tend to open and close whenever they feel like it, but are generally open later than other cafes in the area (9 or 10 PM). The overhead music ranges from horrid to amazing, and from quiet to being so loud that you cant converse with others (this is rare, and usually remedied quickly). Also noteworthy: unlike the blistering office-neons of Fireside Cafe, Urban Grind has much more pleasing lighting. Overall, while it isnt perfect, its close. Highly, highly recommended.

This place is truly horrible. We really want it to be good because the space is great (if in need of a good cleaning) and it is within walking distance of my office. If only the space would be taken over by some one who cares and knows how to run a business. The service is always terrible and the barista is always rude. The food is lackluster or stale. Nothing is redeeming about this place. Im always amazed that the place continues to stay open. Our CEO used to love this place so we rented the meeting room for one of our Board Meetings. When we arrived, THEY WERE OUT OF COFFEE!!! I can understand making a supply mistake but when you have a group coming (who is paying to rent a meeting room) I dont care if you go out and buy coffee from the Freddys, you get coffee in your dang coffeehouse! What is worse is the barista didnt even seem to care and seemed annoyed that we were upset. We ended up making coffee at our office and bringing it over. We still use the space for some of our committees to meet but we dont rent the meeting room. Also, the coffee is so terrible that I bring my own in a travel cup and refuse to buy anything while there. If I could convince my other committee members to change locations I would. I dont care how convenient the location is. I would be first in line if the place was ever sold again and revamped. The space and location is so great for all the office/warehouse people in the area. If only they actually had some business sense to back it up.

Bolo wearing hipster needs an attitude adjustment asap. When I ordered some soup, I was told by the counter lady (who was wearing a bolo..and working around 4pm on Sunday afternoon) that they stopped ordering soup because..and I quote “it’s hot” her blank stare lead me to question if she meant the soup was too hot or the temperature outside (oh hipsters and their irony). Either way, the chalkboard listed a soup of the day and why it wasn’t removed is beyond me. I did order a Greek salad that was listed on the chalkboard menu for $7.50 w/ garlic toast, I was not impressed by the salad or by the same bolo wearing counter lady who practically threw my salad on the table while glaring at me and ignoring both of my thank yous.. I awkwardly picked through two inches of black olives just to find a handful of spinach buried at the bottom, the garlic toast was never deliver and when I went back to the bolo wearing hipster and asked if the salad did indeed come with the garlic toast that was listed on the chalkboard menu, she started to explain that they didn’t actually offer the toast (seriously, this was listed on the huge chalkboard menu directly behind their counter) after a couple minutes of debate she finally offered to make the toast for me. The coffee was sour and the service was undeniably awful. Read you menus people!!

My first time at Urban Grind coffee and also probably my last. Maybe it was my lack of plaid and skinny jeans, but right when I walked in I was greeted by a huffy, hipster woman who seemed less than thrilled to be doing her job. I ordered a mocha and she said it would be right out. I meandered a bit then sat down on the comfy couch. Its a cool space with some real potential. I love the NW Warehouse feel. But after about six minutes, I stood up to see if my coffee was ready. It wasnt. The woman hadnt even started it. She saw me, picked up the cup from the top of the coffee machine, and started to make my drink. I waited another 2-3 minutes for my coffee. Mind you, this place was not busy. Both my thank you and my tip went unacknowledged. Its likely Ill be taking my business elsewhere. The coffee wasnt good enough to return and the service needs improvement. Im all for quick, impersonal service, but there is a line between cutting the small talk short and being hasty and neglectful. This woman was definitely the latter.

Urban Grind is my favorite coffee house for when you plan to stay while and need to get some work done. The wi-fi is strong, the coffee is decent, and they offer a selection of breakfast (yay, egg sandwiches) and lunch items. This is a big space by cafe standards, as it occupies a corner, and there is a lot of seating from which to choose, including multiple comfy couches and chairs. Tip: the wi-fi code changes daily, so ask them to print a receipt for you with the password when you [place your order. The restroom code is 0420.

I went there once with a group of people on Saturdays because they say they serve free coffee on Saturdays. The employee told us they do not serve free coffee to groups of people. Well, we came in the group and stood in the line individually, so what is the difference between serving free coffee to people who come together or separate? Their website says free coffee to the community, one of their ways of giving back.... Obviously the company does not like serving free coffee in general. I will never return.

A lounge area with couches and chairs along with ample seating makes this coffee shop a great place to get work done in peace. It remains quiet most hours of the day and the fast WiFi (buy a beverage/sandwich to get an access code) is a great perk. The sandwiches at lunch are satisfactory and made to order and coffee quality is on par with Starbucks. There is an occasional issue with fruit flies, but it isnt too annoying.

These folks are committed to service of regular customers, and are to supporting individuals and nonprofits working for social change and environmental sustainability. Lots of wi-fi space, good coffee (they roast their own on site), meeting rooms for NPOs and others at very reasonable rates, good conversation, space for kids to play and more. Check them out.
