A fire pit. A tripod dog lounging on the front porch. A working tub in the bathroom. The Liberty Glass in Portland’s Mississippi neighborhood is no hyper-chic, downtown martini bar. Instead, it’s a pastoral watering hole; a repository of those hailing from a flannel heritage; a creaky grandmother’s house playing Bon Iver, decked out in string lights and an aging pink paint job. Those bar-goers that like their bars candle-lit and intimate will take to the spot immediately. Complimenting its rustic atmosphere, the Glass’s seemingly conventional kitchen fare features generous portions. Spaghetti and meatballs, broccoli and cheese, and Triscuit nachos are all delivered with the panache Portland does so well. Childhood specialties linger the Deja Vu of better years. Peculiar blends of spices, garnish, and interesting side dishes combine to make the ordinary anything but. There’s nothing peculiar about the expertise of the bartenders at Liberty Glass: they’re just damn good at what they do. Negronis possess a pitch-perfect quality. Sazeracs swirl with the precise amount of rye. Your grandfather might remember an Old-Fashioned much like theirs. Their cocktails are not only good-looking but elicit a handcrafted joy imbued with expertise. Navigating the Liberty Glass’s various oddities are all part of its charm. Oh sure, sometimes you’ll wait upstairs for a server for ten minutes before anyone finds you. Or you might eye the precarious stairs suspiciously the first time, but these are just part of the character that makes the Glass so special. The Liberty Glass is an ensemble cast of quaint rooms, artisan cocktails, and unpretentious comfort food. Like a new acquaintance you have to give yourself time to get to know it, but when you do, you’ll find a new friend inside its turn-of-the-century walls. But unlike the rest of your friends, this one knows how to make a killer Tom Collins.

I went here with some friends a couple of weeks ago. It was my first time in Liberty glass and it will certainly be my last. The barman (a guy with dyed blonde hair and black rimmed glasses) did not seem pleased to see us and we felt like we were interrupting his evening despite the place being practically empty. We were served 2 cocktails and a beer that all appeared in front of us with attitude in under 2 minutes. Speed is usually a good thing but not when making cocktails and his efforts/skills were evident in the tasting. When returning the cocktails as they were that bad, and being British I try to avoid that type of thing like the plague, all he had to say was "Whatever". I spoke to a friend born and raised in PDX and said they had a similar experience with a different bar tender recently, minus the complaint and retort. Nice venue, cant speak of the food, seriously let down by our barman.

I love this place because it always feels like a welcome escape from the madness of N Mississippi on a weekend night. The service is attentive, friendly and down-to-earth and the drinks are stiff. This is also a really great option for some well done food with vegetarian friendly options late at night. A favorite place to meet a friend or two for a relatively quiet drink, or start or end a Mississippi pub crawl with a big group by taking advantage of the front patio or upstairs area

A hidden gem off the beaten path, this would be the perfect spot for either a dark and stormy night (try the Cayenne Cider [with whiskey instead of rum, as recommended by the bartender] or a warm and breezy evening (sit outside on their peaceful, homey front porch). A well-balanced snack menu and super-cute upstairs space with cozy vintage booths completes the intimate and intriguing ambiance.

Really interesting place. The atmosphere was fantastic. Little old pink house in the mississippi district. really cool furniture and obviously has the feel of an old home which I love. the cocktails were good and very inventive. However, the food was extremely over priced and unimpressive. prices in general were a little high. Your paying for a cool atmosphere here.

Oh my god Maiyan is so dope. I set my watch to the Maiyan calendar so I can hang with this lady. The world didnt stop on 12/21/12 but my heart did. What a doll. Oh my god Sheresa is so crescent fresh. Her playlists get my heart thumping and my twitter paiting. She calls me Boo Bear. She brings me water before I know Im thirsty. What a firecracker.

If you think eating and drinking in converted house sounds fun then come on down. Complete with spaghetti dinner one night a week this pink house at the bottom of mississippi ave. looks and feels like a really cool abode. sit upstairs in a booth on a date, or downstairs and get to know your neighbors. In the winter sit outside by a hot woodstove!

I havent even had my food yet and Im already never coming back here. My waiter was this very creepy guy with no emotion. I asked for a soda and they only have coke and sprite. I chose a sprite and it was flat. I was also given warm tap water. Update. Got my food and it sucked. And they dont take card but they have a POS ATM to get money from

Mad charming atmosphere. Had a bad experience with the bartender outside talking to her (presumably) bf. Walked past her into the place and we waited inside for her for a miiiiiinuute. That aside however, she was polite once she finally came back to the bar and the drinks were totally decent.

This place takes good advantage of the homey, low-key feeling a bar can feature when built into house. The tomato soup is great. Good place for me to read and think tonight, and it was great for a small group the last time I was here.

Always really cool bartenders. Good, strong drinks and chill decor. This is OG home on the range chic before the aesthetic became ubiquitous. Also just off Mississippi so a little more laid back than the other bars on the street.

The potato pancakes are one of the greatest food items in Portland. Get them on their own or with the beet salad. House red is cheap & good. Patio is super pleasant in the summer, inside is super pleasant in the winter!

Liberty Glass is awesome. Food is good. Beer and cocktails are good. The atmosphere really does it here --- great late night hang out. And the little fireplace on the porch is pretty sweet too.

Great atmosphere. Usually good drinks. The meatball wedge is great. Service can be a little spotty. It seems like the management doesnt realize they need more servers as they are a popular bar.

MUST try the Triscuit nachos. Friendly people and a really lovely atmosphere. Would bring any out-of-town folks here that just want to experience what Portland is like after touring Mississippi.

The ambience is nice, drinks are somewhat expensive, and avoid paying for a grilled cheese. The GC is two slices of thick bread and not much cheese. Good tomato bisque though.
