RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! The decor is appealing, the coffee and pastries are good, but the staff is horrible! Not just once or twice, but ALL FOUR TIMES Ive been in over the past year. Those visits have been really spread out (for a reason), and theyre the closest to me, so this would be my neighborhood java-joint, and I would have dropped a fair bit of change in there last year, except the staff are consistently nasty. Every time Ive gone in, I had to wait a really long time to be attended to at the counter - which wouldnt bother me so much (I could even ignore how overpriced they are), but they NEVER acknowledged me, even when I was standing right there. Last time I was right in front of them, not two feet away, right in front of someones face after Id already been standing there several minutes, and they wouldnt even make eye contact, much less say a word. Both of them! I finally got sick of waiting and just walked out, and I swear Ill never set foot in there again. Old School across the street is pretty basic, but Ive never once been outright ignored or caught a gross attitude. There is something in the culture of the business at EPCR, though, because it wasnt always the same people who did this, but it happened every single time, and with every single person there. I see that a lot of the negative reviews for this place are specifically for the crummy attitude of the staff - so its definitely a thing here. Unacceptable! I dont expect a lot, but who treats customers like this? I dont deserve it, and neither do you.

A 24 hour cafe is so rare in this city that it almost earns 5 stars just for that. There are a few things that could improve, thus "only" 4 stars. The bottom line is that its a great spot that you should check out. The place is big and bright. Windows let in a lot of sunlight during the day and there are plenty of lighting sources at night. The way its laid out maximizes the space they do have, so you can fit a fair number of people in there. This means you wont always have to be right next to someone when youre sitting at your reclaimed wood table. The fullness waxes and wanes but I have never seen it packed. The music is pretty good and not loud, so it makes a good study/work spot. Just avoid Monday night. Thats when Open Mic night is. It started out okay and then became unpleasant rapidly. That place is not big enough for electric guitars and amps. The drinks are quite good. Food is limited. Paninis everywhere. The pastries are quite excellent. Unfortunately, there are no vegan options :( Overall, I like this place a lot. I sometimes come here even when its not late at night because its just a great place to be.

Ive lived in the neighborhood for eight years and have been waiting all that time for a place just like this to open up near me. Actually, I take that back; this place far exceeds what I was hoping for. I promise I wasnt paid or asked to say this, but they make the best mocha Ive had in Portland, maybe anywhere. And I know a good mocha. The food Ive had (which, granted, hanst been much yet) is super tasty. Additionally, they have a great selection of unique pastries and goodies. They plan on stocking some very basics like bread and milk so if you live the area and need to pick up some bread or milk at 2 am you now have the ability to do that. How cool! If I had to pick one complaint it might be that the music is just a tad too loud. Its classical though so it isnt nearly as obnoxious as some places that blast really frenetic music that makes you want to pull your head off. But regardless, thats a very minor complaint and definitely wont keep me away. Oh, and they left the phone booth thats on the corner of 79th and Division! Yay! Please go and support this business.

Normally I love this place. Its got a great selection of desserts and lunch items. The coffee is great. Today the service was less than impressive. The food was cold in the middle and when I asked to have it heated more I was told that if I had touched it they couldnt take it back. Being the child of a state health inspector, I understand the need to keep things sanitary. However, if I pay for a meal I expect it not to arrive cold, and if it is, this is their problem to fix,not mine. I was treated like a nuisance, just for asking a question politely. Then they had the gall to charge my elderly father for a coffee refill. He is the sweetest man ever, and too proud to refuse to pay for anything. Shame on you. You need to improve your servers people skills.

First off, we got two hot chocolates...small hot chocolates.. And they came up to be 11.75. Overpriced-- yes. But I figured hey... Maybe they will be some baller hot cocoas and I was with it so I didnt question the price. We waited for our drinks... OVER 20 minutes. There were a good 5 drinks in front of me ... Two being Americanos. And no food. There should have been no reason to wait that long. ... So we get out hot chocolates and as pretty as they were with the marshmallows brûlée on the top-- they. Were. Disgusting. Tepid. Not mixed well. Chunks of grainy powder made it undrinkable. I usually go to southeast grind because they always have yum drinks... But was lazy this time and wanted to try closer to home. NEVER AGAIN.

The world needs more 24-hour coffee shops! This is my go-to place when I just need to knock out some work in the middle of the night. The music is always upbeat, there are lots of tables with outlets, and plenty of food and coffee to keep you fueled. The only drawback is that they really need to do something about their air quality issue. The water fountain is lovely, but having all of that moisture in the air without an adequate system to deal with it makes the place smell badly of mold and mildew and causes the windows to fog up with condensation. I took a friend who has allergies here once and we actually had to leave because of it!

As other reviewers have said, this place is chill, with an artsy vibe, and overall a great atmosphere for hanging out, studying, etc. Outlets on the walls and bar, clearly catering to those who need a place to work. I love that they tried to be 24/7, but it sounds like they couldnt get enough business that late. Their hours are 6am-12am everyday, currently. I really want to give them 5 stars for everything above, but the coffee I tried was a little underwhelming. I have high expectations of youre your own roaster, and although the coffee was ok, it tasted watery with an extremely mild flavor.

Love this place for going out with friends or hanging with cousins late at night with nowhere else to go. I cant drink coffee, but I can say the Matcha Latte is very good. I always get a medium, and then try some of the pastries they have available. Macarons, apple tarts, couchettes, theres usually an assortment, and you can tell whats still available by looking at the display. I still havent tried everything yet. Also, I would recommend the avocado boat if youre feeling peckish for something more substantial. There are also sandwiches that are offered, I believe.
