I couldnt decide if I wanted to give this place 3 or 4 stars...some things really bring the rating up, others really knock it down. The first thing to note here is the Seafood Cioppino is BOMB - if youre coming here, definitely get this. Its a little spicy but with some great cream in there to calm it down - crab, clams, octopus, shrimp...yummy yummy in my tummy. We go the above dish along with the Sturgeon...which tasted good, but the presentation was really lackluster. Plopping it in front of us, our faces kind of fell and we definitely expected more from a $26 dish. A lot more. Drinks....I got a cocktail called the Bees Knees, which was yummy but a little sweeter than Id hoped. Eric got a glass of wine that was pretty underwhelming, and the glass list was pretty short. Dessert...this is where the 5 stars comes in - we got the Markers Mark Profiteroles with ice cream and chocolate and hazelnuts...THIS was delicious. Wow. So good. I wanted to order a glass of port with it though and they didnt have a port list...she named off that they had some port and when I asked for details, she didnt know. I ended up just blindly ordering a Tawny, keeping my fingers crossed it wasnt too expensive. Ended up I think $8, so it was fine, but it wasnt the greatest glass Ive ever had. Service...was friendly, but slow. We waiting at least 15 minutes before we got to order drinks and another 10 minutes before our drinks came out. We werent in a rush, but it definitely felt slower than it should have been. I DO love the design of this place - very cool jellyfish light fixtures and beautiful dark wood seats. I probably wont go out of my way to come back here, but wouldnt be disappointed if I ended up here. Ta!

Totally disappointed! My love researched to find a special place for my birthday dinner. Cabezon won out. Upon arriving, we asked for a different seat than we were taken to. It was too tiny. Moved to an open area, unfortunately next to a party of 6 who were over-the-top noisy. At least they enjoyed their food. To be sure, the salad and pate were delightful. The bread heavenly, the beer great. My cod was wonderful, my loves Cioppino was soooo spicy-hot it was inedible (I sampled it and agreed that it was way over the top). But that was not the problem. It was the reaction of our server when we complained. Our server acted shocked that it was too spicy and indignantly informed us that they served a lot and had no complaints. Then I made a suggestion that she might advise the chef that I think jalapenos were not the best garnish for a cod dish. She huffily informed me that SHE was NOT going to advise the chef about anything because the chef was the owner. WOW! I guess the chef must wield a huge French knife for the staff to be so terrified! As an aside, décor is minimal, art ugly and doesnt have to be crowded for deafening noise. The big reason we wont return? Attitude of wait staff.

One problem with this restaurant... my new favorite restaurant is in Portland and I live in Salt Lake City. The service here was second to none the staff was all attentive and friendly from when we walked in the door to when we were done and heading out. Even though they were pretty busy we never waited for anything. The food was outstanding We had Sturgeon and Ciopino that were both prepared perfectly and the best I have had. They have a great selection of wines and many local beers available as well. We will be back for sure as soon as we can. If you are in the Portland area this is a great place to go.

A small, local restaurant with amazing food. Their version of an Old Fashioned (the cocktail that I use to compare all restaurants) is no frills and excellent. For dinner I had the lamb sirloin with cabbage mushrooms and olive jus. I feel like you dont often see lamb in sirloin form, and its my favorite red meat, so I had to try it. It was amazing. The lamb was cooked just right and the olive jus sent the dish over the top. My wife and I split the creme brulee for dessert and it was also great.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and asked if the restaurant did anything special for birthdays. Most other restaurants would have maybe offered her something small... Our server said how about a champagne toast? I happily obliged, only to get a $20 bill at the end of dinner, which was almost half of our food tab. Really???? Food-wise, it was above average but way to kill our buzz!!!! I hope you guys get a better sense for business. Not trying to free load but shouldnt do business this way

Absolutely the best Ive eaten in Portland, period. Fresh, home made chicken liver pate! Home made rose pickled veggies! Four different kinds of oysters. The cioppino almost made me cry. The pan-seared sole was divine. The staff were beyond friendly...bubbly you might say. The wine was overpriced but with food that good, who cares? Go. Do it. You wont be sorry. And if its a date, reserve the front window table on the far side of the door. They are best seats in the house.

This place is our favorite restaurant in the city. Often, when visiting other "hotter" "newer" spots around town, when the bill comes I often look at it and wish I had spent the money at Cabezon instead. The food is always top tier, the staff is the right balance of friendly and formal, and the ambiance is perfect. Seriously, if you have not been here you are missing out on some of the citys best cuisine. I could not recommend it highly enough.

The menu is very limited. The bar tender did a good job with our drinks. We were required to provide our entree order with our hor doevre order but two tables seated after us received their food way before us. With the limited choices, of course they ordered what we had ordered. The cioppino was generally good, but should not have had a hot red pepper in it. The shrimp was way overcooked. I would not go back.

Definitely a place you have to check if youre a Portland local or are visiting and want to have a taste of great seafood here in Portland. Date night or a family night they have delicious food. I recommend you to try the Cioppino, house made Paté, basil wrapped shrimp and their mac ‘n cheese. Oh and lets not forget their great happy hour menu!

Overall a very good meal. My guest had a tasty scallop entre and I had a very decent fish stew. Dessert was an extra creamy and wonderfully fragrant creme brule, big enough for two. The host asked us to move table to accommodate a larger group and comped the dessert which was thoughtful since the new table was in a cold area.

Cabezon is one of my favorite restaurants in town, and the one I go to most often when I want awesome food with family. Jackie knows her wines (and our tastes) incredibly well, which is something we very much appreciate. Great food, drinks, and dessert, all in a fabulous and comfy setting -- who could ask for more?
