Im writing this review as a means of constructive criticism that hopefully will be read by the ownership. We went to Stone Cliff Inn on the night of Dec. 30th, 2016 with friends, there were 7 of us in all in the group. 3 of us ordered a standard entree from their menu, the stuffed pork loin dish. When the three loins arrived we all were taken aback at how fatty the loins were. One loin was about 40% fat, one about 60% fat, and the last about 75% fat. We called the server over and brought this to their attention for which he said hed have the kitchen prepare three additional loins. about 10 minutes later the manager on duty came to our table. Instead of apologizing for our dissatisfaction with our meals, he began to tell us that this dish is prepared nightly, and in so many words, our dissatisfaction with the dish was a product of our tastes and not a reflection of the dish, there was nothing wrong with what we had been served. Shocked, we explained that if it is customary for them to serve meat that is more than 50% fatty tissue then we certainly have chosen the wrong entree. The manager then left us saying he would review the cuts they had in the cooler. A few minutes later he returned to apologize, saying that after reviewing the cuts of loin in the cooler, they in fact were far fattier than what they should be serving. He attempted to salvage our experience by saying that we would not be paying for our meals, however once we received the bill there was only one entree deducted, not the three we ordered. Needless to say we left extremely disappointed with our experience. We live in the area and our previous experiences with Stone Cliff Inn have been mixed, but this experience was so disappointing that we will not be back. We are owners of our own eating and drinking establishment so we understand the challenges involved with pleasing customers. It would not have taken much to have turned our experience around, but unfortunately those steps were either neglected or poorly handled by the management on duty. You dont ever tell your customer theyre wrong about how they feel...

Two stars: both of them for the excellent service by the wait staff. The food was overpriced, especially given its shortcomings, and I was generally dissatisfied with my meal. My first and primary complaint: the food wasnt seasonal. A restaurant that pretends to serve fresh food has no business putting hothouse-grown heirloom tomatoes on a salad in October. The rest of the review is in no particular order: The pumpkin desserts and pumpkin beer were gross. The pumpkin "creme brulee" had absolutely nothing in common with real creme brulee. At least there were a very few non-pumpkin options. The ribs and fried chicken were nothing like soul food. If you dont know the difference, you might like those dishes. If youve ever spent time in the American South, youll be disappointed. The burger didnt have any cohesive character. It was a confused mismash of weak flavors and soggy bread. The chicken on the hazelnut salad was greasy, and thecheese wasnt sharp enough to balance out the sweetness of the cranberries. also, all of the salads (except for the caesar and caprese- but on that one, the vinegar was far too sweet) were basically all the same formula: arugula, cheese, nuts, fruit. It gets old. The log cabin was an interesting novelty but the roaring fire in the fireplace was inappropriate for the season and our entire party sweated profusely throughout the evening. Also, we were only infrequently served water, and when it came, it came in a tiny bottle that only filled 1.5 of our glasses. This coupled with the salty food and very warm restaurant left us uncomfortably thirsty during our whole meal. The only member of our group who ordered a steak commented that it was unevenly cooked. Only a small part of it was medium as ordered. However, the burgers were cooked correctly, with one rare and one medium rare.

For those of you who read my previous review. I apologize for wasting your time and potentially steering you away form the Stone Cliff Inn. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong. And in this case I was clearly wrong. After a detailed conversation with the Owner of the Stone Cliff, I see this was clearly a miss-understanding. As I mentioned before. Our server (Jessica) was fabulous. She did an outstanding job of handling the situation at hand. And after hearing from the owner as to why she behaved the way she did. I completely understand. And I apologies to her for letting this misunderstanding be something it is not. She is an outstanding server who I recommend you ask for by name on your next visit to Stone Cliff Inn. As for the Manager. He is a big man. Yes. And as such has no choice but to be a big presence in the room. But I now know, that he was not made fully aware of what was going on with my desire for a half order of ribs. So I could not and should not expect him to have come over to the table to explain. So my apologies go out to you as well, Pete. I do recommend to all - that when given the chance to visit the Stone Cliff Restaurant. DO SO. It is a beautiful setting with great staff. The food is as I mentioned below OK. I have to be harsh on that, because to me, there is nothing like my own cooking. :-) As a Big Game Hunter I am very particular about the meat I eat and how it is prepared. The food is good, dont get me wrong. But that is not the best part or best reason for visiting the Stone Cliff Inn. Honestly, it would be very hard for any food (my own included) to compete with the setting and the wait staff there. If I could figure out how to remove my last review I would do so. I tried attaching it to the bottom of this post but it was too large to post for Google.

Not very good. Food was okay, service was definitely not. First, they lost our reservations but thats okay because the place was almost empty. They didnt put sauce on my Reuben sandwich, the Gluten Free bread was not toasted or grilled, the waffle fries were delicious, but I had ordered the sweet potato fries, and my lemonade was watery until I snagged my neighbors lemons and squeeze them into my glass. The person who had the fish & chips said the fish was very bland, but the sweet potato fries were very good. They did accommodate one order in our group and made a specialty plate that wasnt on the menu. We got water at the beginning of the meal, no more, and no refills were offered for the coffee. No one came by to ask how things were. We had to wave our arms to get the waiters attention, and thankfully one of the cooks saw us and got the waiters attention for us (though place was nearly empty), and thats when I finally got my sandwich sauce (on the side), and another in our group, after reminding the waiter, finally got his glass of milk. Salt & pepper were in small bowls with a spoon - no cover - ew! The waiter leaned over me to reach across the table, and also leaned over my partner next to me instead of walking around the table to deliver a plate of food. Caution: no chairs with arms, so if you have someone elderly, like we did, they will have difficulty sitting down. Not impressed. Will not be back.
