Kiwan Cafe Rio is an amazing breakfast and brunch restaurant and coffee shop in the heart of downtown Oak Grove. Located centrally on the main strip, Kiwan offers gluten free breakfast and brunch options including their famous waffles in both savory and sweet varieties. In addition, the offer hot coffee and tea as well as gluten free pastries and home-made ice cream, including dairy-free coconut flavor! MY EXPERIENCE: Kiwan is one of our go-to spots in Oak Grove for breakfast. My favorite so far is the waffles ranchero -- basically scrambled eggs and cheese with salsa all on top of a plain GF waffle. Yum! Also good are the gluten free donuts. These are all handmade from scratch and are some of the heartiest, yet soft, moist (neither soggy nor dry: perfect goldilocks!) and delicious donuts Ive ever had. I tried the sugar donut. They also have homemade banana bread which is delicious. Im not much of a coffee drinker, but they have everything from dark black roasts to fancy lattes and mochas. I am a big fan of their famous "Earthquake" drink. It is like a mint-chocolate mocha. A delicious pick-me-up! And Eman is the nicest lady. She cooks everything up from scratch and seems to really enjoy making good food for happy people. CAVEATS: My only real caveat is that the credit card machine will ask you -- and so will Eman -- if you want to give a tip BEFORE completing your order, which is not the way we are used to doing it in the USA. No worries. I usually just say no, and then Ill put a cash tip in her tip jar after Ive eaten. She has options so you can make the choice thats right for you. CONCLUSION: When in the Oak Grove area, I highly recommend eating at Kiwan Cafe Rio. Try the waffles ranchero for a great savory meal! Try one of their many flavors of coffee, just black if you prefer, and take some of their fresh-made donuts to share with friends and family.

I have a few things to say... and only the best. The owner is one of the most kind and caring hostesses Ive ever met. It is immediately apparent that what she wants the most is for each customer to feel welcome and satisfied with the experience. My girlfriend has extensive EXTENSIVE food allergies and the coconut milk ice-cream served at Kiwan Cafe Rio is not only homemade but comprised of the most simple ingredients--and no processed sugar. Its sweetened with agave. My girlfriend hasnt had anything remotely close to real ice-cream in many years. The homemade GF donuts are incredible, and this is coming from an avid donut consumer. The texture of the dough is impeccable. She must use a combination of flours (one must be almond flour) and the best part is... you dont feel like shite after eating it! My philosophy is usually this: a donut for breakfast equals 2 mornings. Lo and behold, not only was the donut one of the best Ive EVER had (GF and otherwise) and not only was the recipe created by the owner herself, but its a donut that DOESNT make you lethargic! This lady-rockstar deserves a medal.:)

Best place ever! If you are forced to eat gluten free you too often end up eating with friends at some restaurant that serves nearly nothing you can eat... and whatever you get is subject to cross contamination and ignorance or indifference. Imagine someplace YOU could take your friends filled with choices and deliciousness. Not to mention homemade ice cream! This is the place.

This place is delicious! The owner makes all the food and everything weve tried is amazing! My favorite so far is the pepper turkey sandwich with the vegan mayo. Her gluten free bread is the best Ive had. The muffins, smoothies, and coffee are all good as well! Everytime we are near, I beg my husband to go here. Dont miss out on this gem!

Gluten free! Dedicated gluten-free even. Great place! The ham and cheese waffles were excellent. The avocados where perfectly hand chosen. The Chai tea latte was better than all the big chain lattes. Did I mention that its all gluten-free!

Organic coffee! The bread is amazing you wouldnt think its gluten free! Everything is handmade and fresh.
