Favorite spot to study. Im not a coffee snob... but as a chai snob, I highly recommend Shades. Hands down the best chai blends in town (and I have frequented several coffee shops). Recently Ive fallen in love with the Masala chai (loose leaf). The baristas are fun and accommodate preferences. Although often late, resulting in long lines on the weekends. Great location for students and parents. Nursing friendly. :-) The furniture is hipster or vintage and regularly "recycled", so if your chair or couch wasnt comfy, come back in a month or two to try something "new". Love the atmosphere, art, & location...and the regulars are practically family. Two complaints: first, the food is overpriced, almost never stocked, and not that great in taste. Sandwiches & muffins are decent. Second, the beloved coffee mugs are aesthetically pleasing, but not practical. They dont hold the heat.

This place has flavorful, rich, and decadent coffee. I am always satisfied with what I order. The floors need a bit of work in the back room, as well as the little table with the lamp. Parking is good. The only major concern I have is regarding a specific person. He is stalking me and follows me inside every single time I go. I tested it and even when I went late at night the same man showed up. He is relatively old looking, wears sweatpants, and is always snotting around and bothering people with weird conversations. I dont know how he knows who I am or the times in which I show up, but Im creeped out. He drives a beat up car with a Texas license plate. This man is a stalker and is making me scared of returning:(

Used to love this place because of the chai latte and recommend it to friends, but I will never again. Mostly because I left my computer charger there and called to see if it was turned in. The manager (I think) told me he saw it, and an employee took it home. I went to pick it up after the employee supposedly brought it back, well it was stolen again from an employee. This ruined everything. Yes, my fault for leaving it there. But its ridiculous that the manager was not more careful about the handling of the situation. Also didnt like how smokers sat right outside the door letting smoke linger in.

I really enjoy spending time at Shades of Brown. There are plenty of places to be seated both inside and outside. The coffee shop sits on the north end of Brookside, so there are several businesses around it. Parking can be a real hassle. They have a very small dedicated lot for parking which is mostly used by employees. There are also places to park on the side street and Main Street in front of the store. Inside, youll find discussions, patrons on laptops, some reading, and others playing board games. The shop features the work from local artists; most of which is for sale.

There are several really good coffee shops in Tulsa. Shades of Brown in brookside is in the top tier. Their baristas are very well trained and provide some of the best espresso drinks you can get anywhere. Yes the furniture is a little taterred and some of the chairs should be repaired before the fail but they more than make up for this with a great product and service. Im a runner and I stop by here 3 or4 times a week after my run to relax and read the Urban Tulsa & Tulsa World both of which are provided I love this place!

This place has a fantastically developed atmosphere. The wall colors blends very well with the art they have displayed. The furniture is comfortable and usually very clean. The coffee is absolutely fantastic as well. The only complaint I have is that there isnt very much seating. It is a literally smaller establishment, so theres just limited space to put seats. As such, there are usually only a few places to sit, if one visits with anyone else. Other than that, it is a fantastic place for coffee.

So grossed out! The barista was counting the cash in his drawer when I walked in, coin by coin. I waited, ordered a pastry, and watched as he picked up the pastry and put it in a bag WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS, and handed me the bag. While doing this, he also cleared hair from his brow, and still never cleaned his hands. I was so nauseated. I wont be back; its too bad - the place has a great atmosphere and menu, but I wouldnt dare put that food in my mouth.

This is a great local coffee shop. Every time Ive ever been the staff has been very friendly as well as informed about the coffee industry as far as new trends and what not. There is almost always a long line and one barista but no one seems to mind because the coffee is worth waiting for. They were the first store I ever saw using an ipad as a cash register and I just love that! Way to stay up to date with the new technologies!

GREAT Coffee! I enjoyed my Iced Caramel Cold Brew Latte so much! The coffee was very high quality for a decent price. The baristas were kind and very friendly. Shades of Brown is a neat coffee shop with a welcoming atmosphere. Unlike other coffee shops in Tulsa, man buns, tattoos, and beards are not a requirement to get good coffee. Would definitely visit again and would recommend this coffee shop to others.

I love the atmosphere and coffee. I dont know who keeps writing bad reviews, but the furniture is supposed to look tattered. Thats the point, its more of a "hipster" feel, and I absolutely love it. No "lukewarm" coffee as Ive read here, Ive been a bajillion times and have never had a bad cup of coffee. Great cozy environment, great place to study if theres enough room, and great coffee.

They like most shops in Tulsa offer locally roasted coffee but they also prepare blended coffee drinks. In the evening, the place usually attracts students needing a spot to study. Plenty of seating available thanks to a recent remodel. Usually hang local art throughout shop. Prices are reasonable. This isnt a place I go out of my way to visit for coffee, food or anything else.

I really like Shades of Brown overall. They have delicious drinks (try the Chumpkin--a combination of a chai latte and pumpkin spice!!), a cozy atmosphere, and lots of parking in the back. My complaints would be how dark it tends to be, especially in the back room, and then how generally cluttered it is. I find it hard to focus with all of the distractions.

Its gotten better over the years. The coffee is very good, the menu is a bit selective but respectable, the treats are a bit lacking and unless you just want a cold sandwich its not great for lunch. But, food isnt the priority here. The art rotates every few weeks as different artists come and go, but its usually pieces that are visually interesting.

In the 20 years that Ive lived in Oklahoma I have been to shades three times. During each visit the service was poor, the food was poor, and the coffee was merely decent. I feel like the bathrooms are filthy every time I go as well. Many of my friends go to this coffee house and love it, but I have to admit: I really cant understand the appeal.

While waiting on laundry to finish my 11yr old daughter and I dropped in to pass the time. My daughter had a pastry and an orange soda and I had my usual from any coffee shop the house blend :p. Service was perfect. As far as the atmosphere goes we both felt at home and that is rare. A fun worthwhile visit and A neat experience for my kiddo.
