To anyone complaining about the prices, youre probably not vegan. Ive been known to make my own vegan-friendly baked goods at home and, frankly, the ingredients are simply more expensive - I mean, by a LOT. You might go to a place that calls something vegan, only to find out that the sugar used was filtered by charred animal bones, or that same place might be preparing or cooking something dairy or meat on the same surface as your vegan item. When you go to a vegan store-front, you want people you can trust to: source the ingredients properly, ask the right questions of vendors, maybe even do a little ethical digging to make sure that the parent company of the ingredient theyre buying a ton of, isnt owned by a major food conglomerate that supports animal testing, rodeos or something non-animal friendly. Would I like vegan, organic and animal-friendly products to be as inexpensive as government subsidized cheese, corn, and meat - well, yeah. There simply isnt the economy of scale at this point, so we need to support the small, ethical producers, increase demand, and show people that vegan and ethical food doesnt have to be bland and boring like rice cakes. Having tackled price concerns mentioned in previous reviews, Id like to mention the fact that you cant really make baked goods taste awesome and sweet without sugar, and you cant get the right consistency and stability of some of these products without using things like oil/shortening. Everyone wants something that tastes amazing but that is also sugar-free, fat-free, oil-free and that doesnt have any chemicals or fake-ingredients you see in other foods. At least they dont use heavily refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated oils or animal products of any kind at Pattycake. What can I say, the selection is great, items are fresh (even at closing time!) and the staff is friendly and personable. If you like cake, they have cake. If youre into a Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pie (or a regular one at that), you can get them there. Muffins, cookies and, yes, cupcakes - the variety is pretty intense. Luckily, the staff mentioned earlier can help guide you in the right direction. So if you feel the need to purchase and consume cheap baked-goods made with government subsidized animal-product ingredients, there are plenty of other places to go. Thankfully, Pattycake is not one of these, and thats why I enjoy being a customer there.

Ok, heres the deal. My husband and I have been vegan for over 15 years and my husband frequently travels to the Columbus area for work so he regularly visits Pattycake. On a recent family vacation where we traveled cross country our travels took us through Columbus and we made a detour for vegan sustenance at Pattycake. The selection was huge, probably over 20 different items to choose from. Whoopie pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, cupcakes it was awesome. However, the staff was beyond rude. No greeting, no thank you, barely a word spoken to us. Everyone is apparently so busy honing their hipster image that they have to pretend to be aloof and pretentious and therefore can not possible wait on the commoners. My husband ran across the street to get us some coffee to go with out treats while I gave the kids each their snack and we sat at the small tables they have inside to eat. I had assumed that is what the tables were for. Based on the whispering, gesturing, eye rolling and the like it appears the hipster elite were very annoyed by me and my offspring. I dropped $60 in the place and am helping them fund their very important just-spent-$300-to-make-my-hair-look-like-I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-hairstyles and I was literally persona non grata. I will say that the owner is adorable and sweet and she was very nice to us so I cant imagine for the life of me why she has assholes working for her who are the face of her business. It really was enough to turn me off to ever going there again, vegan or not. Just once I would like to eat at a vegan or vegetarian establishment where the wait staff was not a bunch of aloof, skinny jeaned douche bags who take an order correctly and are pleasant too. I dont think its too much to ask and its vegans like this that give the rest of us a bad rap.

3,5 stars. Were not vegan, we just heard alot about this place. Weve been there 3x with varying experiences food wise. The pumpkin whoopie pie and molasses cookie are my favorite. I feel like their chocolate offerings are too far off from tasting chocolatey and not "chocolatey for vegan" to get them (excluding the ho ho cupcake). Love the thrilla vanilla cupcake. The cut out cookies were really dry but I hope I just caught them on an off day. We tried the pan au chocolate they raved about and were not impressed. It was soaked in vegan butter and there were only 2-3 bites with chocolate taste. My husband threw his away and I didnt finish mine. Some items just dont translate well to vegan ingredients and thats okay. Our biggest beef here is their prices. 4 items will run you $10-12 and they have a loyalty card where you can get a free cupcake after 12 punches. Uh...thats a $120 cupcake! I think it would be a little better to either lower the requirement to 10 punches or give $10 worth of choices after 12 punches. As far as the lady who had the bad experience while there with her kids, weve never had that experience with staff but given how incredibly tiny the shop is, I can understand why they would be a little put off by having a family in there. However, that doesnt give them the right to openly grunt and groan about it given shed just dropped $60 in there!

8/21/2011 Well, I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I thought Id try this place based upon its high rating on here. Well, I got "everything oatmeal" and "chocolate XO" cookies, and I didnt care much for either one. The oatmeal ones were ridiculously oily. The grease stain soaked through the paper bag. They also fell apart. They tasted pretty good, but were disappointing overall. The chocolate ones simply werent. They were brown, but tasted nothing like chocolate. 4 cookies were $10 also. I can eat regularly cookies made with eggs and butter, so I can be impressed with your baking shenanigans that allow you to make vegan cookies that sort of resemble regular cookies, but I am in no way compelled to eat them over quality traditionally baked goods. Also, I get that vegetarians have assumed that animal life is superior/more valuable than plant life, so they eschew eating animals, but I do not understand veganism whatsoever. Whats so unethical about butter?

Superb! Organic ingredients, vegan, some gluten free items. We ordered a variety of cookies, cakes, and a raw cheesecake between the 5 of us in my family. Everything here is vegan (which is great because my daughter and I are lactose intolerant) and they have a few gluten free items (which is great for me because Im gluten free as well). There is something for everyone here and everything we tried was delicious! Nothing tasted "fake" at all...seriously. You dont need milk and eggs to make a dessert taste amazing. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. She knew what was in the baked goods when I asked what type of flour they used for the gf items. Its a small place, so if youre not using GPS you could miss is like we did, but we turned around and glad we did. Their prices are a bit higher, but youre paying for quality ingredients, not junk! We will be back! I cant believe we hadnt heard of them before. YUM!!
