Back in the day I used to go to Haiku and really liked the place. The drinks and food were pretty good if not great and the decor was on point. I dont recall the level of service but must have been pretty good because I was a repeat customer. Fast forward a few years, I havent been there in a while and dropped in for dinner with my wife. The decor is still great and although the mai tai was average to slightly below, the other cocktail (tyme machine) was great. That cocktail was probably the best part of the night. To eat we had coconut shrimp, sushi (rolls) and tso chicken, all were average but nothing was impressive. If this review were based on the food quality, drinks, and decor Id rate Haiku 3.5 stars. But its a restaurant so service is pretty important. First off when you are at a sit down restaurant and somewhat upscale, you shouldnt be offering disposable chop sticks. Thats like going to an Italian restaurant and getting a plastic fork with your pasta. The sticks were not just disposable but cheap; takeout sushi spots use better chopsticks. The waitress/bus staff were horrible at clearing our finished plates which was very frustrating given the small size of the table. At each course we waited a while for her to come clear the food then waited for her to drop the check (actually had to flag her down when she delivered something to another table). Then we waited again for her to take my credit card, I was fed up and walked over to give it to her. Now I get it, its a Friday night and its busy, plus I have sympathy because I worked in restaurants for years. That said, the terminal/host stand was a few feet from our table so we could easily see our waitress (not busy) standing at the terminal chatting with a coworker. She didnt appear sick overworked or run down and it wasnt the end of the night, essentially she had no excuse. Other staff passes by our table and didnt pitch in so it wasnt just her. Clearly I wont be going back because.....Ill only tolerate sub par service if the food is excellent and haiku was not.

Since we havent found any good Chinese takeout in the area, this is where we come when we are in the mood for Asian. Weve been to the locations in White Plains, Bronxville, and Eastchester before, but this was the first time in Mamaroneck. The restaurant was pretty empty when we came, but it was a Monday night, so thats probably why. I ordered steamed chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce on the side. My husband got the crispy Szechuan chicken, which is shredded into skinny pieces then fried in a batter and topped with the sauce. We split the veg fried rice. For dessert we has the fried ice cream. I would venture to say this was some of the the best fried ice cream Ive had. It is dipped in tempura and fried to perfection, and almost tastes like ice cream wrapped in funnel cake. Overall the meal was solid. I do think they give larger portions at the other locations, but other than that the food is pretty much the same.

After coming here with my family for my brothers birthday I have to say this is my worst experience I have ever had in a dining environment. Not only did we arrive at 630 pm when the place was completely empty and full of staff but we actually waited 30 minutes just for drinks to arrive. The food didnt come for another hour. It seems as they take care of there "take out" orders prior to helping any coustomers sitting at tables...? When the food came it was soggy and unedible and half the orders were wrong. We had to return the food and by 8pm not only were our stomachs empty, but we were starting to feel sick. In terms of atmosphere: there is none. If I were an inspector I would be giving them a fat C.. Not to mention the dust everywhere. Anyways the night ended off on a high note as we walked across the street to sals pizzeria.

We decided to have a dinner in this restaurant but the food was very bad. We ordered tuna pizza, rainbow roll, and beef udon. The Tuna was smelling like raw meat, I had tried tuna pizza several times before but this was the worst. The roll was average like the one you can get from a supermarket and the Udon was extremely salty and tasted very bad. We asked the waiter to change it with less salty one but he brought us exactly the same meal again. The service was not good at all. Waiters were doing nothing but watching TV. I had been to this restaurant before and their quality was very good but this time I wasnt satisfied with the quality.

They served me slimey expired salmon sashimi my first time going there, on a date no less. The beer was also flat and past its prime! I dont know how I ended up going a second time. I went safer the second time and got maki rolls. My friend and I both got very unsatisfying rolls. Learned my lesson, absolutely never going again. By the way, this is ONLY at the White Plains location. The Mamaroneck one is great! The other one in Bronxville is disappointing, but not 1 star worthy. I would give Bronxville Haiku a 2-3 star. I didnt enjoy it but it isnt something that everyone should avoid, just something that foodies should avoid.

My review of Haiku in White Plains is long overdue. I consider myself a seriously experienced sushi "foodie", having even traveled to Japan on several occasions for several months. . I only come to Haiku in White Plains for sushi, and even for a take out sushi fest, making a 40 minute RT to White Plains. David is wonderful, and he knows I am indeed very particular about all sushi, especially the quality of uni , which has to be grade "A". Their uni is plump and heavenly. When David says it is fresh, he means it. Keep up the great job, and I will continue to be a loyal , happy customer.

The sushi was good, but the portion was considerably smaller than other no-frills sushi places such as Seasons, also on Mamaroneck. The place is very nice overall, with a lounge area, gorgeous bar, and outdoor seating. Be prepared to pay because it is not cheap. It is a nice place to try once when trying to impress your girlfriend or out of towners. I would compare this place to Asian Temptation, also on Mamaroneck Ave. Quality, price, and style seem to be the same.

A very upscale designed restaurant with a good bar. It gets a bit crowded at night due to the bar area not being so big and most of the place is designated as a restaurant. Nice spot to go to if you want to get away from the usual bar crowd in that area or if you want some decent Japanese cuisine. Security is in there to make sure none of the riff-raff from Mamaroneck Avenue come in and make a scene while you are enjoying your stay at Haiku.

The food is good, but nothing above the competition. Youll get a selection of the sane at other Asian fusion restaraunts, and some items seem a bit pricey. The atmosphere is nice and warm, with comfortable spacing between tables. While the service is very nice and pleasant, it can be pretty slow most of the time. Theres a back entrance, which gives you easy access from the rear parking lot.
