Last night I had the pleasure of visiting China Rose in Rhinecliff, NY a 45 minute drive from my home in Poughkeepsie. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was beautiful situated overlooking the Hudson River. We sat outside on the patio and were quickly greeted by the wait staff, offering us cocktails. We started with Sake margaritas, shortly thereafter we were welcomed by owners Dominick and Bruce. Dominick suggested a few of his favorite appetizers; sesame noodles, scallion pancakes and the goat cheese wontons. The drinks and appetizers were delightfully full of flavor. We then entered into a beautifully decorated quaint dining room where we were greeted by our waiter Mike. Mike recommended a shrimp and walnut dish that was outstanding. We also had a chicken and mushroom dish along with a chicken and string bean dish. The presentation of the food was accompanied with fine quality and quantity. We had an excellent meal and evening, it was definitely worth the trip! I look forward to going back soon to this sparkling treasure. Well done Bruce & Dom!!

The place looks nice and the staff was friendly, but the floor and chairs were sticky, didnt find that very promising and made me wonder how hygienic the kitchen would be. The food was very disappointing: overpriced and not tasty at all! We were a large party and I got to taste several items. Not flavorful, rather bland. The fried rice dishes were dry (no sauce, just curry flavored rice and little bit of veggies) and for the meat dishes (pork and chicken dishes) I could barely find the meat and also very dry to chew. I start thinking that the other "raving" reviews on this website are written by employees or the owner. Its definitely not worth a visit and for that money (including drinks and tip we paid $35 a person) you can find much better value elsewhere. I would NOT recommend this place.

oh, how the mighty have fallen. once upon a time, this was a wonderful place. i went for the first time 5 years ago and thought it was fab. the decor was fun, the food was really fresh & bright (for american style chinese), and the service was charming. i continue to try it out seasonally, and have watched it begin to slide the same way the take away satellite location in kingston has. the location has suffered from lack of care, the service is now primary young adults with no experience, and the food has edged from boring to bad. i would continue to write out a review for this location, but id rather not relive the experience - and intend to never return to the restaurant.

I eat Chinese food regularly on both coasts and I am almost embarrassed to say that I prefer China Rose to most of the other places I go. The food is consistently great, the service is friendly and fast, and the sake margaritas are life-changing, although youd better designate someone to drive who will skip these extraordinary cocktails because they are stunningly potent. Its also worth noting that the owners sold the China Rose outlet in Kingston, so while these places share the same name, they are completely separate. That place is good too, in its way, for a great cheap lunch or for takeout. But it cant compare to the restaurant in Rhinecliff.

I love this bar. Its family-owned and the regular clientele and owners care a lot about it. They regularly have music which adds a nice ambiance (its never too loud or overpowering), and the location couldnt be better. Especially awesome during the summer when you can sit outside. They grill food outside in the summer that is inexpensive and delicious! The reviewer who suggested that the owners wrote the five star reviews is being ungenerous. A lot of people love this bar. One reason is because of the good vibes of this place.

CHINA ROSE is set in a picture book location above the Hudson River in the charming town of Rhinecliff. The patio deck dining on a beautiful early summer evening was just what we looked forward to. They delivered the atmosphere and something else....whiich made us decide never to return. Hair in our food. Yes, a strand of hair in the fried eggplant appetizer (not so appetizing) and two hairs under our stir fried green beans. no excuse for this, I wonder what the kitchen is like??? The food....it doesnt really matter anymore.

The entire restaurant smelled like sewage. We hoped the patio would be better but it was not. There were flies EVERYWHERE. The door from the patio into the restaurant remained open at all times therefore, Im sure they were all over the place inside as well. Flies around food is unacceptable- not fly but FLIES. Couple that with the sewer smell and Ive never been more grossed out. Barely ate the overrated, overpriced apps we ordered and couldnt wait to leave and go home and shower. Never again.

Horrible service and a jackass waiter with a bad attitude made the food irrelevant. After waiting over 20 minutes for our drinks, 30 minutes for our appetizers, and another 45 minutes for the main course, when I casually mentioned the hour and a half wait to our waiter, his response was, and I quote, "so". It took every ounce of strength for me not to cause a scene in the restaurant. No saki margarita is strong enough to numb one from that level of shabby treatment.

I have only 3 times sent back a dish from a restaurant and this is one of those times. They charge higher prices and the food is very bland and tasteless. They were very good about taking my dish back (high price made with canned mushrooms) and giving me another dish but that one was also very bland. Would not recommend this restaurant or ever return to it.

The dishes were most unlike traditional chinese food that Ive had. The Country Style fried rice as just odd. The beef in the broccoli beef was way too thick. The sauce was enough to throw it all away. The Chicken with Cashews was ok - but way too many vegetables. The pot stickers were inedible - another person who did eat several got food poisoning.

China Rose is quaint, has marvelous sake margaritas, and the Crispy Orange Beef is to die for. Get there early and walk to the train stop and take in a view of the Hudson. Moderately priced, yet generous portions. The best around!

A very special treasure at the bottom the hill in Rhinecliff, NY. The food is spectacular, great drinks, and the friendly owners and crew that keep us coming back. Unmatched.

China Rose is a lovely spot right on the Hudson. The Chinese cuisine is top notch! The sake margarita is tasty, but dont have more than one unless youve a ride. ;)
