Ive only gone there for drinks. Decent beer on tap. Prices are decent enough. The patio is good for hanging out and shooting the breeze. Cover charge sometimes. Few bucks, no big deal. Where they could use a big improvement is service. Theres usually like 5 people behind the bar, and nobody knows what they are doing. Ive seen a single decent bartender keep a larger packed bar running smoothly. Maxfields needs to train their staff better. I dont even bother ordering a real cocktail (Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Tom Collins...etc) because Im certain nobody behind the bar would know where to begin... even though Maxfields looks like the type of place that would serve up that sort of thing. Theres potential there for sure. Its a shame to waste it.

Met a group of five freinds for dinner, I wasnt terribly hungry so I opted for the calamari appetizer and french onion soup. The soup wasnt terribly flavorfull and the cheese (provalone) they topped it with was barely melted. The calamari however made up for the soup as it was tasty and well cooked and quite a large portion. Sadly my freinds were less than happy as they all ordered burgers that were to be medium rare and all came out very well done. The dining room ended up filling with smoke (assuming from the burgers) wafting up from the basement kitchen. The service on the bar side was ridiculously slow and the three bartenders couldnt manage to keep up operating a beer tap.

The hostess put us at a lovely table for two on the deck over the river. Gorgeous! The martinis were splendid. My beloved enjoyed her combination of seafood and pasts. My steak and the accompanying mashed potatoes should have been discarded in the trash. The meat was tough and medium well,(I had ordered medium rare.), and I am absolutely certain the potatoes were left from the previous night. Their chef,in my book rates a two,. The food was cooked. The place is lovely and a great place for a drink.

Dated food, mediocre cocktails, and lousy indoor atmosphere. If you go to Maxfields, wait until its warm and you can, at least, sit outside by the river. Inside, its relatively dirty and the acoustics are miserable, making conversation difficult even when the restaurant is only half full. This place rests on the fact that they are one of the only games in town. If you want to go to a restaurant with better atmosphere, cocktails, and cuisine, then go to 1844 down the road a bit.

Great food, lots of drink options, quality service, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available, Maxfields is a quality bar/restaurant - the best in Potsdam. The events calendar is very good, with the bar often playing host to local bands or making room for a dance floor. If youre in Potsdam for the night, this is the place to be.

The food was good. The French onion soup was really good but It smells like a bar, maybe it was the 2 dollar bud lights from the night before but it stunk. The table was sticky and in need of washing. A previous review said they are rasist and bigoted but the main bartender is a gay black man who was awesome. I will be going back.

Exceptional ambiance, inside and on the back patio overlooking the river. Victorian architecture and shabby chic deconstructed brick interior with massive windows and plants galore. The food is refreshingly different... variations on typical fare for places of its kind. Priced fairly.

If you want to pay a cover to wait a half hour for a drink, youve come to the right place. Some of the taps just taste "off" and Ive gotten a few beer glasses that honestly smelled like their bathroom (which smells like sewage and is always covered in vomit on the weekends).

I love this place. The atmosphere is great, the views off the back porch are great, and the bartenders are awesome. They have rotating specials, which allows people to try new things and the live bands they bring in are a good addition and dont clash with the ambiance.

I loved this place! My girlfriends and I came for girls night out. We had such a blast. Our waiter, August, was new and great. (We werent the easiest crowd.) I ordered a flight of beer and crab cakes. They were DELICIOUS. Everything about this place is great.

I love the outdoor seating on the deck, the cocktails are fabulous, the live entertainment is upbeat, the food is definitely delicious but there really are no vegan options without a lot of modification. The prices are reasonable, the service is professional.

Been only to the restaurant area.Service was good,the many times I have been there.However,cant understand why they close on Sunday when a lot of us like to dine out on Sunday ,considering there are not that many restaurants in the area.

This bar is simply a racist. I saw the man who was kicked out because he was a colored. And second because he is gay. They really are racists. They do not respect people, never give receipts. There is stinks terribly in their toilet .

Great place to catch a drink after work. A bit more upscale than Duffs. Youll fit in wearing a suit. Prices are super reasonable, decent draft selection Grey Goose Martinis only $6! Ask for Devils Water, you wont be disappointed.

Excellent menu, prompt courteous staff, and a decent wine selection, considering the area. Any time I stay in Potsdam, I make a point of visiting Maxfields. Ive never been disappointed.

The owners care so much about their $2 cover that the bouncers will refuse you entry even after youve opened a $30 tab previously that same day. The place is also absolutely filthy.

Will not find better in potsdam The gazpacho and burger was awesome the rest was OK. Not much dining choices in town, but this was the best.
