I am going against the grain here with my review. I am from Rochester, NY where we have a few amazing vegan restaurants and we cook a lot at home. I was expecting a great vegan meal in NYC. The appetizers and wine were delicious here, but our meal wasnt. I have NEVER sent a meal back to the kitchen, but my boyfriend & I both sent our dinners back. We had the special of seitan steak, mashed potatoes and porcini mushroom sauce. The aroma and flavor of the sauce was off-putting; the mashed potatoes were instant, not real potatoes; and the although the setian steak was vegan, it had fatty-like veins running through it, which as vegans, we found disgusting and confused about what they did to it. The porcini mushrooms that were in the sauce were grainy as if they didnt wash the dirt off them. As for the appetizers, I wrongly assumed that the aioli sauce on the black eye pea cake was vegan, but I was wrong...My belly doesnt lie. It was not vegan. There is no indication on the menu as to which items are vegan and which are vegetarian, but they do have a guide for gluten free, nut free, and soy free. Strange... We were really disappointed with our meal, but at least they didnt make us pay for the dinners that we sent back. The atmosphere was great and the staff were very accommodating, nice, and attentive. The only other negative is that they were playing old, old, country music which we found strange and didnt seem to fit the romantic mood they seem to be going for. On a positive note, our 10 year old son liked his meal.

So an avowed meatarian, a new vegetarian who still remembers good meat dishes (me), and two diehard vegetarians who know their food walk into this place, and I admit we were a skeptical bunch. We knew Blossom was a little on the pricey side so our expectations were even higher. But as you walk in, the intimate ambiance and the instant seating already added points to our report cards. We dove right in and ordered; we shared the hickory smoked tempeh (a delicious treat and with the potato fries it was unbelievable), the risotto ( a bit on the bland side but the fried tofu more than made up for it), the seitan dish (I cant believe it wasnt meat; they nailed the texture but none of the grease and fat, absolutely delicious), and had the pasta to boot (the sauce was unbelievable). Ive only been to one or two other vegan places (GOBO) but I already know this is one of my favorites. Add to that a great ambiance and close proximity to UCB theater and I know this will be one of the go-to places for me. And need I mention the delicious dessert? I decided to be adventurous and pair the four level parfait with a glass of wine and was really pleased. My girlfriend didnt like the cheesecake so much but the apple cobbler was really on par. Overall, delicious place to go!

Id heard such rave reviews about the other blossom locations that I was excited to have one open in my hood. My hub ordered a mozz panini; he thought it was alright but didnt care for the fries. They initially brought out the wrong plate of food for me, which resulted in me eating 20 mins after my husband. I ordered a BLT, that was made with tofu and Smart-brand bacon so Im not sure why it took so long. It was tasty but not impressive; the sweet potato side was better than the greasy fries byt unmemorable. We were given a free dessert due to the "mix up" and choose the chai milkshake, which a friend recommended. It was more like eggnog, both in the flavor and consistency, than a shake. It was very whole milk-like. Not worth the price; the service was okay. The restaurant was like an upscale deli counter or juice bar.

I came here years ago and enjoyed the food and decided to return despite hesitating at the entrance because of the grade pending sign in the window. Warranted hesitation or coincidence: I found THREE hairs in my appetizer. We did not finish the appetizer and did not order a new one. Instead we elected to continue onto our main courses. I got the Scallopini, a dish Ive had before. It was definitely not done as well as in the past. Anyway, service was good (despite another tables dishes being served to us first -- it happens) and our appetizer and dessert was comped when we got our check. I wouldnt recommend Blossom on 9th avenue and would instead steer you to their Cafe Blossom du Jour on 23rd street.

We came here for lunch. To start off, we ordered the black-eyed pea cake, which was delicious. For my main course, I ordered a philly cheesesteak but got a cheeseburger instead. I decided there wouldnt be that much of a difference in taste between wheat gluten formed into the shape of sliced steak as opposed to a patty, so I didnt bother bringing up that they got my order wrong. The cheeseburger tasted alright, albeit off. I think it would have better if they had just kept most of the focus on the flavor rather than making an exact replica of a cheeseburger. I also got a braised miso tofu, which was good. As for service, I wasnt too fond of the waiter. He was cold and a bit snooty.

The in-laws took my wife and I here for dinner. I considered it an experiment as Im usually a steak guy, but wow, this place exceeded all expectations. We all shared a vegan "cheese" plate, and my skepticism was turned around from the get-go. Delicious. I had seitan in a dark wine sauce, and it was phenomenal. One of the best meals Ive had in years, and just as filling and satisfying as any meat dish. Definitely felt as sleepy and happy afterwards! Price for quality is great. The atmosphere is charming and would be equally perfect for a romantic couples dinner as it was for a fancy family meal. Im taking the wife back here for a date night asap.

Overall food was SALTY... Avoid this place if youre watching your blood pressure or managing salt intake. We ordered the scallopini dish which waiter said was the specialty and it was SUPER salty! Caesar salad and cheeseburger was tasty but Again on the salty side. Ironically the side of French fries that came w the burger was seasoned just right and almost under seasoned. It was the only thing that was not overly salty. Will not be coming back here again. Did not feel good coming out of this restaurant!! For the money I expected something spectacular but it just didnt live up to the standards of other vegan restaurants Ive been too. Sad...

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! My friend and I (we are both vegetarians) finally tried Blossom after many people recommended it to us. Everything we ordered was exceptional--we started with a ravioli appetizer whcih was amazing. I ordered the Port Wine Seitan and my friend got a seitan special. We both loved our meals and the portion sizes were perfect. We also tried the tofu cheesecake for dessert and definitely recommend it...it tastes almost like a regular cheesecake! The staff is also great--our waitress answered all of our questions and was very nice. Definitely try Blossom--you will not be disappointed!
