I have attempted to contact your bakery several times since the date of our wedding, August 14 2011, to speak with your cake designer. Each time I am told she is busy, she is not there, and, although I leave messages, I receive no response. I am going to file a BBB complaint, and, upon reading the reviews of your bakery and its customer service, know that this means nothing to you, but I promise that I will review on every message board, and I will upload a picture of this disastrous wedding cake, and I will warn as many people as possible to avoid your bakery by all costs. Your cake designer assured us that she would be able to make our cake the way we wanted it. What we wanted was for the bottom and top tiers to resemble flames, and the middle tiers to resemble tribal tattoo design. We explained that our colors were black and red. She did state that she may have some trouble with the flame, and asked if we had stencils that we wanted to use. We certainly did, and my husband dropped them off a few months prior to the wedding. These are not cheap stencils, they were $150 per set and they have yet to be returned to us. Our best man came into your bakery to pick them up while we were on our honeymoon, and was told that they were sent to the hall. Well, the hall doesn’t have them either, so where exactly are our stencils? Prior to the wedding, we called several times, as when my husband dropped off the stencils the cake designer basically dismissed him and said she knew what we wanted. As this was our wedding day, we wanted to confirm, however, we could not get the designer on the phone, but were assured she knew what we wanted. Look at the picture of our cake that I have attached. Does it look anything like flames? Do you see tribal tattoo design anywhere? Imagine our shock and disappointment when this is what we found on our wedding day. IT IS FREAKING ORANGE TIE DIE AND RETARDED SWIRLS. IF YOU DIDNT KNOW WHAT YOU WERE DOING YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID SO, RATHER THAN RUINING OUR WEDDING CAKE!!! Our caterer uses your bakery, we would have preferred to use one our bakeries, Everbest or Alpine. We paid an extra $200 to have OUR design on OUR wedding cake. Are you kidding me? My 16 year old daughter, who is studying to become a baker and runs a company out of her house, made both our engagement cake and our wedding shower cake, and her cake BLEW yours away with design. You are supposed to be professionals, how could this possibly be a challenge? ORANGE? Really? It’s disgusting, and it was, and still is, an embarrassment. We received our wedding picture link today from our photographer, and have requested that he cut out each picture of the cake. We did not save the top, which is traditionally done, because it is so ugly, we do not want anything to remind us of it, yet the image of the disgusting color and design is burned into our memories.

I have lived in Lindenhurst since 1980 & have been going to Black Forest for several years prior to that point in time. I had always recommended it to everyone as THE bakery for everything from breads & pastries to special occasion cakes & desserts. Ive felt that it has slowly been going downhill but today was the absolute worst & I will never set foot through their door again. I picked up a puff pastry w/ cheese filling in which the cheese was dried out & crumbly as well as sour. It was actually rancid smelling & a grayish yellow in color. The only component of this pastry that had ANY sweetness whatsoever was the Confectioners sugar covering the top. I thought this might be a fluke so I decided to try a chocolate twist pastry & not only was this devoid of sugar, it was also missing any flavor except a slightly "plastic" taste!! I actually picked off a piece of the chocolate pastry part, figuring that this HAD to have some sort of flavor & all it tasted like was old & stale flake pastry. I was beginning to think it might be ME so I had several family members sample each item & everyone was unable to even swallow the pieces they had tried to sample. They were just that bad. The hard (kaiser) rolls were lacking in seeds, both the poppy & sesame ones & they had an inordinate amount of semolina flour on the outside, making them feel very gritty & floury. At least they were freshly baked & had good flavor. Id like to add that I spent $9.35 on the small twist, the cheese puff danish, a thin, flat raspberry crumb square & 4 rolls & I made my purchases at 7 am, when things should have been freshly stocked & ready for the new day. Tom should be ashamed that this is what the place is churning out these days! The local Waldbaums & Stop & Shop bakeries offer tastier fare. Thats a sad state of affairs! :(

My experience with the Black Forest Bakery was really crummy—I would never recommend them. When my fiancé and I went to a “tasting” the lady showed us a giant book of tacky looking cakes. When we said “we wonder what that flavor tastes like” the woman told us “its good- trust me”. I have never heard of a cake tasting where you couldn’t taste anything. Then, the Tuesday before my wedding I called to double check on everything. The woman on the phone told me that I “sound like a nervous bride”—all I asked was if they had everything in place and what time it would be delivered. She assured me we were all set. Then, a day and a half before the wedding they called my phone and my fiancé because they didn’t have a picture of the cake on file, even though I emailed it to them months before. Rather than calling me a nervous bride, she should have checked to make sure this picture was correctly in the file. Then, when we cut into the cake we were very surprised to find out that out chocolate-chocolate cake was actually vanilla. While it may not be a big deal, this is just not the cake we ordered. I emailed them the day after the wedding to ask to speak to someone about this and they have not responded as of a week later. There was nothing pleasant about working with them-- my recommendation is to find a different bakery!

I have used Black Forest for many year and I am always amazed by their work. I had my wedding cake done by Tom in 2006 and I loved it so much that I didnt want to cut it. I have had my sister in laws briday shower cake done by them and she also had her wedding cake done there. When it came time for my baby shower, my mom knew not to get my cake anywhere else. Tom had made me a cake to looks like the fischer price phone! I absolutely loved it. For my sister in laws baby shower cake I had Tom make her a cake that was a 3-D Rock a stack toy. Everyone loved it! Recently I had my sons christening cake there and everyone keeps raving about it. Every year for my birthday my husband always gets me a cake there, sometimes even with different colored cake inside. One year for my mothers bday we got her a cake and Tom made the actual cake puprle. Also, the "Hamburger" cake is a great hit in the summer. This is truly the best bakery on the Island!
