I passed this place in September of 2016 en route to a friends house in the Catskills, and after smelling what I drove by, I reminded myself that I wouldnt let that happen again on this visit this way today. Being from South Carolina, I know what authentic BBQ is; for those of you who live in the North, this is NOT an event where you have hamburgers and hot dogs. (THAT IS A COOKOUT, not a BBQ!!!) I was impressed with this place in every way, even to the point that they had sweet tea (and it was brewed sweet tea, not some nasty imitation stuff or powder.) I had the brisket sandwich with coleslaw on top with fries. But I also had an appetizer of the hush puppies, and Ill tell you, to use SC lingo, they were so good, you would "want to slap yo mama!". My wife had the turkey BBQ sandwich, and it tasted amazing (I asked for a bite). Kids were satisfied with their choices, too (hot dog/fries and chicken fingers/fries). Living here in the North for more than a decade and a half now, finding legit BBQ like I had back where I grew up is RARE, but Hickory is unique. Theyve done it, and I would dare guess that if Hickory were down South, they would be competitive there!! Without question, this is some of the best BBQ Ive had outside of the South. Good prices, great service, and AMAZING food. Hickory, well be back for sure.

I dont know where all you reviewers have ever tried bbq, but this was by far the worst bbq I have ever had. The brisket was clearly not recently smoked (no smoke flavor) and was dry only to "be brought back to life" by a pound of sauteed onions. Ive also never ever gotten 1-1/2 lbs of brisket for dinner. Established bbq joints that travel around the country in competitions usually serve 3-5 slices of brisket in their entree. Perhaps they thought by giving me 20 slices of dried out dull flavored brisket it would make up for it? The ribs were tough and grizzly and again had 0 smoke flavor. The waitress brought me a different beer than I ordered because they were out of what I requested. When I told her that wasnt what I ordered and I would get something else, she got an attitude. We never saw her again the rest of the dinner. I would not ever eat here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Food was mostly great. Breads were too dry. Mac and cheese was over cooked and dry. Our group enjoyed the bbq wings, smoked turkey sandwich, pulled pork quesadilla, pulled pork nachos, and chicken strips. French fries were soggy, hush puppies were dry and cakey. We did try cheesecake which was very grainy. Key Lime pie had good flavor but crust was too course. Dessert was served on warm plates which was a big turn off. Service was poor. Food was delivered when we had no utensils. No one came to see if we needed anything during our meal. No drink refills we offered. We had to keep flagging people down. They did not offer dessert. They saw someone in our party drop their folk on the floor but did not bring new utensils. We were there on a weekday evening when it was not busy or packed at all. Not sure I would go back. For the price the service should have been wonderful and it was not.

Steve and his team catered our wedding and it was AMAZING. We had met with him and tried his food and fell in love. The pulled pork, turkey, and sides are all fantastic. His hush puppies and maple butter are so so good. Steve was amazing throughout the entire catering process. He was open to all of our ideas but also had great suggestions. He was always available for our questions and I was completely at ease that they had everything under control. His team was extremely professional and even helped with the set up day of. Set up, serving, and clean up were seamless. He nailed the amounts of all the food and alcohol perfectly. All of our guests raved about the food and we enjoyed it a lot, as well. If you are looking for catering in the Kingston area he should be your guy. If not - go there and eat anyway!!

We have a group of 12 - 20 friends that gets together monthly, April thru October. Last year we went to the Hickory Pit every month, and loved it. Great food, good service, nice environment, very accomodating. Tonight we went for the first time this year, the service was terrible, (not the staffs fault, they were short handed). The place was not packed, yet 15 - 20 minutes to get drinks, additional biscuits, etc. The ribs were not as good as last year or even close, and they ran out of them. The majority of us were not happy with our meals, which were mostly burgers (over coooked), calamari (not cooked enough) and ribs. Not sure what is going on there, from last year to now, but we decided not to go back, and this was our monthly hang out place. We will be going somewhere else moving forward.

Finally had the opportunity to try Hickory unfortunately I was disappointed. Dishes where of good portions however they lacked much needed flavor. My sons Smoked salmon was bland with no smokeyness at all. I ordered Texas trio and subsituted Ribs for the Turkey. I found it to be ok for BBQ just thought I would appreciate more time spend on the smoking process. Good seasoned smoked meat should be able to stand alone. I found I used plenty of sauce which by the was good. Did the job just fell short of my expectations from what I read.

Maybe Im just use to good ol South Carolina BBQ because the pulled pork sandwich was only ok. The ice cream and key lime pie was great. The main issue my table of 6 had was the waitresses acted as if they were in a hurry to leave the table everytime they came or should I say when they came. We waited for drinks for at least 15 mins. To top it off they automatically added gratuity. For a table of 6??? Seemed a little odd. Plus for us 6 to eat 2 bbq sandwiches, 2 salads and 2 kids meals plus drinks and 1 shared piece of pie was $100+

Oh boy! I haven eaten here since they first opened when I was in high school, so like twenty years ago or so. The food was absolutely amazing and the prices were amazing, too. I enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich that was garnished with coleslaw. The flavors were unreal! The side of warm potato salad I had was a totally new experience for me. The dressing had mustard seeds among it other ingredients which made me quite happy as I love anything mustard. I will definitely be going back again.

This is the BEST CHOICE IN ALL OF UPSTATE! The ribs are perfect! The mac and cheese is very good and their cornbread makes you think of the deep south. I have tried for years to find a place with good ribs and wings and this place is by far the best! The best wings you will experience in upstate ny, how do I know? I am the pickiest man in the world! I am very happy with this place and have to say they are very nice to people of color. (just calling it like I see it)
