loved Loved LOVED! We were visiting uptown Kingston from the Albany area for the first time, and were faced with numerous choices of funky local eateries. DMZ is located one short block over from the main drag (Wall Street) right across from the Courthouse and behind the Old Dutch Church. We wandered over for an early lunch and were greeted warmly by the owner/chef Deena. The (spotlessly clean) modest space is a classic counter and table diner that she (a former graphic designer) has lovingly restored wth a cool revolutionary atmosphere/vibe. Deena took her time explaining our Gluten-Free options. We went with her recommendations for appetizer (Patatas Bravas - seared potatoes with smoky overtones) Sandwich (Classic Bánh Mì, which she made on a delicious toasted GF roll w/pork pâté, to-die-for pickled carrots, sriracha, and house-made mayonnaise) and Entree (Delicate Shrimp Pad Thai with several kinds of tender, perfectly seasoned rice noodles). We both shared each dish (ample portions!) and absolutely cleaned our plates of every morsel :-) If you’re looking for adventurous but approachable fare with some unexpected twists (and some great conversation!) then don’t hesitate…this is a must visit relaxing dining spot. We’ll be back, and you will be too!

Really horrible. We should have noticed that no one else was eating there on a Saturday night, but we were starving and had just found out Lucys has closed and wanted a change from Yum Yum Noodles. Had ridiculously small portions and paid $70! Weirdly sweet chinese sausage, tiny, tiny cuke and tomato salad with too many jalapenos, skinny grey chicken saté with skimpy sauce, something with a few weensy hard dried shrimp and a soft boiled egg on a slab of kimchee and a tablespoon of rice, all smothered in too much Sriracha. The worst was "beef negimaki" which came as a soup that tasted like nothing: watery broth, overcooked dried mushrooms, wet cardboard beef and stale noodles! Generally I like spicy food but there has to be more going on. Cute place, nice staff, promising menu but: get a new chef.

Finally! Something unique! DMZ takes dishes you [think you] know - garlic shrimp, Cuban sandwiches, pad thai - and then takes them to a completely new, gastronomically-sublime level. The food here is so scrumptious its nearly impossible to describe its deliciousness. We dont know what chef/owner Deena puts in her secret sauce but - man! - it keeps me and my boyfriend coming back for more! (Weve asked - she wont tell.) Even the cocktails are glassfulls of yumminess. Plus, the atmosphere is cozy, fun and creative. This place makes me squeal with delight every. single. time. Do yourself a favor, folks, and turn the corner off the main strip -- DMZ is truly a gem off the beaten path.

I was pleasantly surprised. Before arriving my boyfriend had told me how amazing the place was. He had been here once before with friends and couldnt stop raving about the Cuban Sandwich with tofu and the pad thai! The atmosphere was charming and welcoming with its small size and ability to see the chef at work. We ordered the Cuban Sandwich with tofu and it was the best Ive ever had! We also ordered the lemongrass vermicelli with chicken and coconut crusted tofu. The food was flavorful and inspiring! The drinks strong but tasty and desert was delicious! An amazing meal that I would drive the hour there and the hour back for no other reason than just to go again!

DMZ is my favorite place in the Hudson Valley- for brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails! Margarita night and Tiki night are so much fun. Food is amazing (best Pad Thai Ive ever had). The cocktails are too good. And the staff are hilarious (and awfully kind). Million stars.

Our favorite restaurant in Kingston - I wish they were open more. Food is creative, well prepared and delicious. We have a tried a lot of the menu items and they have all been wonderful. We live about an hour away and it is well worth the drive.

I am a guest in Kingston and my hosts brought me here for a very lovely dinner. We shared 3 small plates and completely enjoyed it. Nice beer selection and a good glass of sauvignon blanc. I like supporting small local businesses. Check it out!

Words cant express how much I love this place! Reminds me a little of the Stage in the Lower East Side where I grew up, fresh delicious food and cocktails made right in front of you. And the ladies are bad ass.

Delicious food, interesting stuff. The portions are a little small for the price, but overall its not bad, and they use good quality ingredients. A little on the slow side, but not too painful.
