We have been to many countries in Europe and love the cuisine, from comfort food to relatively nice restaurants, and I must say that the Brauhaus offers a good selection of beers and dishes from across the pond. I was very happy to have wurst and spaetzle, along with one of my favorites, the spiced red cabbage. The service was nice and the prices reasonable, too. Why not 5 stars? I must admit, people have the impression that German food is bland; that's just not true. I have had many flavorful and tasty dishes when visiting overseas, everything from the dumplings to wurst has its own tasty herbs and savory flavor, but I felt that that was not the case here at the Brauhaus, Things were surprisingly on the bland side. There is also an overabundance of sauerkraut, and goodness, where are the dumplings, or a brezel with sweet mustard? The menu seems more stereotypically "touristy" than local (German) in some ways, and lacks some variety in others. Also, I found the decor a little bland, why not dress it up a little to look like a heuriger or a hofbrau? Not tourist-trap like, but more authentic instead of spare. It'd be nice to walk in and feel that I'm sitting in the real thing. There's a nice view out the back that would lend itself to an outdoor deck and dining. This is just opinion and does not affect the rating. All that said, we'll be visiting the Brauhaus again. While it's not as "German" as we've had, it's still tons better than many of the so-called German restaurants we've been to, and I'd recommend it to you as well.

One very classy place!!!! On Saturday, November 26, 2016 while sitting with my family at the Mountain Brauhaus restaurant, I fainted three times and, in the process, showed all the signs of having a stroke or heart attack. In addition to dialing 911 the Manager set aside all of his duties to be at my side, provide support to me and my family, and would not leave until the ambulance took me to the hospital. When later asking my wife who paid for the bill I was stunned to hear that the manager had all the meals neatly packed away so that we could take them with us with nil charge!!! As I live in western Canada this was only my second visit to this restaurant. Last year, when paying the bill I had mistakenly provided 4 crisp $100 bills, not 2. Much to my surprise the waitress returned to my table with $200 advising me of my error. Unbelievable honesty! On both occasions the Mountain Brahaus Restauant went beyond what one considers exceptional service. I will be forever indebted to them, they deserve a "Ten Star" in my books. And by the way.....their food was fantastic!!!!!!!!!

This was my first visit, and my girlfriends 4th. She had very positive experiences previously, and Id only heard good things. I had a burger special on a pretzel bun which was very good. She ordered a Pumpkin Seed Encrusted Salmon special with mixed vegetables and a cream sauce. It was very disappointing, very bland, on par with mediocre banquet hall food. She had one bite and couldnt eat it, I tried it and felt the same. This was the first time in 1 1/2 years Id seen her bail on a dish like this. Maybe the deviation from traditional fare was a bad idea? We told the waiter our feelings-politely. I felt this charge should have been pulled from the menu, or at the least our dessert comped. I possibly will give them another shot, definitely let down on a few levels though.

Loved everything from the red cabbage, to the veal schnitchel, the real mashed potatoes, and the wine. Portions were huge, and the service was plentiful. We were greeted like family and treated like royalty! Love this place and the food! I had wine with my dinner, but next time I wont eat soo much....they have an awesome bar where we could have enjoyed a nice after dinner drink if we werent so stuffed. The food was awesome, the dinner was REAL GERMAN food, the customer service was outstanding, and the wine was outstanding! Bill for 3 was 100 dollars, but this was well worth it! I will definately come here again; and I go out of my way to tell everyone that this Mountain Brauhaus is the best German Food in the New York area. Awesome.....Just Awesome!

I had an out-of-this-world meal there - Jaegar Schnitzel over their spaetzle with red cabbage side - thats a large piece of carefully pounded thin, breaded veal with an incredible mushroom gravy sauce over top. I have to say it was unbelievable with each bite. The waitress was awesome, wearing a traditional German dress and a friendly smile - she helped me decide what to get. The place was super busy though and I can understand that its just not the kind of place to expect to monopolize a waiter/waitress in conversation. Everything is made to order and delicious. It feels like eating a home-cooked meal with lots of love and care put into it. I will certainly be back soon!

What more could you ask for in a German restaurant? First vist . . . right away, the wait staff was very friendly (a good sign) and then the food was ausgeseichnet (I hope that is close to German for "outstanding"). Our party of 6 was seated in a reasonable amount of time. I had the house special weiner schnitzel and it was GREAT. The waitress also nicely gave me a sample of the rabbit soup (a stew, really) . . . also yummy. All washed down with a couple of Weis biers and some health dessert (hey, it had blueberries in it!) . . . and life was good, even though I went on from there to a night of losing pool at Bacchus. Cannot wait to return and try it again.

I usually hate German food; at Mountain Brauhaus I ate my fill and was extremely satisfied. It has all the elements of a beer garden that people like, like great german beers, waitresses in German garb, and jolliness, but adds elegance and a restaurant to it, not to mention the beautiful mountains in the background. I was particularly impressed with their chili special and apricot cornbread, and their simple but perfect pretzel. I still think about this restaurant fondly, and it has been years since I went.

What is most amazing is first dining here in 1970 and then returning to find the same wonderful memories preserved again and again until 40 years later in 2010. Ownership and operation is unchanged with the same family several generations later continuing the tradition. The menu still features many German specialities of course and the service still has that same thread of close family attention. I will continue to go miles out of my way to return here and enjoy yet another excellent meal.

Asked to use the phone to call for a ride on one stormy winter night when the pay phone outside was broken, was told "No" by the owner even though I had offered to pay for the call. So I had to walk to New Paltz in the dark. Thats pretty hard to forget to say the least, and there was no reason for it. That was when I was 18. If it happened today I would have asked for an explanation. However, I know that their food is good, so for that I would grudgingly give them 5 stars.
