Seolleongtang is the cloudy soup that many Koreans credit with everything from curing sickness to curbing the effects of a night of excess. Its the specialty at a few restaurants around New York City, including Gahwa on Union Street in Flushing and, most famously, Gahm Mi Oak on 32nd Street in Manhattan. (This restaurant off a busy stretch of Northern Boulevard in Queens is of no relation but has a Fort Lee, New Jersey, branch.) For many non-Koreans who have been exposed to the stuff, its a love-it-or-leave-it food. The broth, milky like a watered-down version of Elmers glue, is painstakingly prepared by boiling ox bones for days and days. When it arrives at the table, its warm, not boiling hot like most jjigae (stews), and bobbing with strips of beef brisket, a handful of rice and somen wheat noodles. The key to appreciating seolleongtang is what you do with it next. Adding two or three scoops of powdery salt (quite possibly MSG) is essential, as is sprinkling in freshly ground pepper and a handful of chopped scallions (all available table side). After the additions mingle for a bit, the broth retains its offal taste, but with a rush of briny ocean tide from the salt that works magic with the tender noodles. Its something you might just find yourself craving during your next hangover. But Gam Mee Ok Tang is not only about a bowl of soup. The décor is quite modern, with attractive lighting and roomy, comfortable tables. Service is impeccable. The staff wears earpieces, uniforms and looks and acts very polished and attractive in a K-pop star sort of way. Theres even a decent selection of French and South American wines. In the front of the spacious restaurant is an entire bar devoted to the preparation of pajeon (fried pancakes made from rice flour). Available mix-ins include ground mung bean, hot pepper, perilla leaf, minced pork, oyster, stuffed mushroom, shrimp, and pollock. Make sure to order one, or get the sampler platter. Samgyetang is absolutely textbook. A whole young chicken is stuffed with ginseng, sticky rice and dates, a dish often consumed for its energy-boosting properties. The adventurous should order a plate of sundae, a mild blood sausage consisting mostly of dangmyeon noodles stuffed into a casing with barley and certain bits best left undiscussed. The sausage arrives on a massive platter, hot and moist and sliced like kielbasa. The tradition is to dip it in a mixture of salt and spice, between sips of Hite beer. A lightweight Korean beer is an essential pairing for this dish.

The TANG IS A DANGEROUS PLACE! DO NOT GO to THIS DANGEROUS PLACE! I had a horrible experience with this place. please read on.... Last 3 times my family (me and wife w/2 kids) visited the Tang. 1st occasion: my son got hot boiling soup into his eye while the dish is brought to our table. 2nd occasion: hot water cattle for Ice cream desert (to make a cool effect over dry-ice) burned his arm. And for one last time, my mini van felled into 2-3 feet deep creek they made on the Parking lot. (it was covered with a piece of ply-wood. !!) I finally had it with this greedy owner/manage running the place. I can say this cause, when I asked them to pay for my damage, they gave me run around with a there construction contractors expired insurance certificate! (not the TANGs, the manager keep asking me to called the 3rd party(construction contractor) insurance broker to settle with them) When I called back asking for this scam, the manager got really rude with me, start yelling at me over the phone. I told him Im not going to argue over the phone. I went to the Tang. face to face, now this Manager and owner greet me with excuses. we start arguing. they (3 guys. owner/manager/so called strong waiter..) put me in a separate Room. start giving me all the excuses. threats (almost got into a physical fight with all 3 man) now they blaming me, my son for his injury. while he got burned (he was seated in his sea when in both time t!) also blaming me for drive my van into that ply wood covered Hole. (they saying not many people drive over there) today I went in there, other cars parked in the same spot. (now the creek is cemented) I guess many drivers does drive over that spot. Since they blaming my kids and me for the incidents now I am going to take them to the Court for all 3 occasion. Im going to share pictures and dash cam footage of my bills and the parking lot indecent to everyone to see it very soon. MY 2 CENTS: DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, IF YOU DO, MAKE A POLICE REPORT IF ANYTHING HAPPENED TO YOU OR YOUR LOVE ONES. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE NICE TO THEM BY LETTING IT GO, THEY WILL BECOME SO RUDE ONCE YOU BECAME THE VICTIM AND THEY START TAKING AN ADVANTAGE OF YOUR GENEROSITY.

This place is... the kind of Korean restaurant that makes me proud as a fellow Korean American. Since the first time I set foot back in 2012, I came back in 4 years to find it still top-notch in terms of the quality of their food, both the ingredients and the taste, their outstanding customer service (at a level of detail clearly above "Korean restaurants"), and the chic, airy, and clean decor. I ordered Boyang dogani tang (health cow knee soup) and it just hit the spot perfectly - good chunk of ginseng, flavorful dried dates, and a TON of dogani that I kept dipping into their soy vinegar sauce yet didnt seem to disappear! Their side dishes are no-cut-corners as well and kimchi delicious. I spent a full hour eating slowly because... I was recuperating from a Travelers sickness, but afterwards I felt like I could snap Empire State Building and write with it. Energy man, energy! This is a premium restaurant compared to typical ones, but customers pay more for quality food and quality experience. Tang management and marketing team definitely understands this.

Your typical Korean place, however serves some more interesting dishes of Korean food for a "main stream" style place. For those who dont speak Korean, there is English on the menus and the staff does speak in English. Great family place and you get a real family vibe. Great staff and service. The meal I had a great balance to it. The meat was done perfectly and the there was a nice balance between spiciness and taste. Rice was spot on as well. Has its own sushi bar and Valet parking and I think the parking is a huge plus considering the area. Whats bad about this place is it has a measly Banchan and its pricey. Its worth the price but it is still very much pricey considering other places in the area. You pay for clean tables, great staff, parking etc. I would go again, simply put there is much more on the menu to explore and works great as a family style place.

Perhaps one of the fanciest Korean resto in Flushing! Their new renovation is quite stunning and the seating is super spacious. My party of 5 was seated at the hidden section on the side. It was good that we avoided the crowd and the noise outside, but it was impossible to find a server! We had to keep looking around for someone to attend to us. Unlike the service, the food was spectacular. Everything we ordered were better than most other Korean restaurants nearby, which will reflect in the price as well. Their kimchi was super delicious, and not as spicy as most. The only dish I wont recommend is the Seafood Noodles, it was a bit bland.
