To Judy S. and any other patron who chooses to believe the Israel and Chris Campos libel and slander that my companion and I were (yelled at by Julio Campos and ) told to leave because we were drunk and rude and disruptive, shame on you. I have been a patron of the Cancun Inn for 25 years, even in two previous locations, and Israel was always extremely gracious to us. We just came from the 4th of July outdoor festival nearby where I bought some jewelry, and my friend wanted to go for an early dinner at the Cancun Inn. This is no way to treat a 25-year restaurant patron! We were the only people seated in the dining room at 5 pm and there were 2 waitresses (one out on probation for a felony charge), our beverage order was taken and in 10 minutes flat, Julio told the waitress to tell us we would not be served and to leave immediately, so we walked to the door but not before we were accosted by a screaming Julio who noted my Make America Great Again cap and Trump pin and said to get the hell out of his restaurant right now and never come back because he doesnt serve Trump supporters. We were in shock, my hands were shaking or I would have pulled out my phone to video Julios wild-eyed behavior. It is illegal to refuse service because of attire (as long as the dress code and health code are obeyed), there is a legal precedent. Cohen vs CA. My companion said that Trump is going to win, and Julio yelled that Hillary is going to win. We left and ate elsewhere. That would have been the end of it, I would never have gone back. But the next morning, Israel and his son went on a full maligning campaign, TV, newspapers, radio and internet to say that we were thrown out because we were intoxicated. Libel and slander, defamation of character, just to save the family business reputation. Thats the truth. They held a rally of 100 people and the press with their publicity hound attorney, and their business has been thriving since the publicity. There was never any phone call made to the police about any rude intoxicated couple, no video camera evidence to corroborate their allegations. I phoned Israel to ask to meet and ask him to apologize, but he refused. Flatly lied that he wanted to make peace, obviously. His crocodile tears for the benefit of the reporter for a local newspaper were probably because of his fear that I would sue. Remember, folks, that his restaurant was always one of my favorites. No more. And had I known of all the multiple health code violations (public record, folks) I might have stopped going there years ago. Now I cook my own Mexican dishes.

Reading some of the reviews here based on the recent news coverage by people whove never set foot in this place makes me sick. This is all the result of 2 disgruntled, mentally unstable patrons who were thrown out for being obnoxious drunks--not for being Trump supporters as theyre alleging. This place does deserve 5 stars but even so I really just want to get this review up to show support for Israel and his family that own Cancun Inn. Theyre absolutely great people who Ive been getting food from since they had a small place in New Windsor like 20 years ago, and they deserve much better than this. My favorite for food here is the fajitas. This isnt high concept, haute cuisine mind you: its down-to-earth, homey Mexican food. The chicken and steak I usually get are very good, the portion is enough for lunch the next day, and theyre happy to sub out items (like rice exchanged for some nice mixed veggies) upon request. The guacamole, is light, limey and delicious; we sometimes get it as an appetizer as well. Their homemade chips are also really good and it pairs nicely with their basic tomato salsa (has a bit of a kick too). With entrees you get a salad which sounds like an afterthought at a Mexican place. It isnt. The homemade tequila dressing--something like a peppery vinagrette--is tasty, the greens are a better quality than youll find at much classier restaurants, and the portion is considerable for something thrown in free. On top of the food, the sangria is excellent--packed with fruit and some wine/fruity liquers that are extremely well hidden (beware). My mom loves it and she rarely if ever drinks elsewhere. To cap every meal off, all the adults at a table get the mule kick which is a shot of tequila, amaretto and peach schnapps. Its not only a nice touch but delicious. Seriously people, dont mix your food and your politics. Its not good for your appetite. Ironically enough, their business is booming even more now than before because of all of this coverage, and the ensuing flood of old and new patrons who wanted to actually check the place out. Theyre going to come out of this better, and the people harassing them will inevitably pay for their sins as it should be.

Excellent Mexican food. The mole sauce is amazing. The portions are very big. Prices are reasonable. The house dressing for the salads incorporates tequila and must be tried. Its truly one of a kind. The staff is very friendly and quick. The owners are a class act. Very friendly and they pay attention to detail. Ive had drinks spilled on the table by a fussy child in our family and the owner came right over. He got toys for the child, had the drink cleaned up, did magic tricks, and got new drinks for everyone. It was just a completely unexpected level of customer service. This wasnt the first time that happened though. Every time we go there we get asked how things were and if you dont think it was excellent they figure out how to make it better. The dining space is a bit cramped and it can be hard to park when things get busy. Its a great place to sneak into though during lunch time for a bite to eat. Its usually quieter on the weekdays as well even during dinner. Thats the best time to visit if youre not a fan of crowds. I have been going to the Cancun Inn since it was over in New Hampton, NY and over the years it continues to be worth checking out. There is nothing bad on the menu and the food is consistently well prepared as well as presented.

I have only been to the Cancun Inn once. That was shortly after all of the Hoopla was caused by the drunk woman wearing Trump clothing. I was a stranger to the owner and the staff when I ate there for the first time with my husband. The owner immediately came over to me and hugged me. He did the same to my husband, and this was on the FIRST meeting. The staff was very very nice. The food was great. I can not find anything wrong with my first experience there. We are going back tonight with another couple. Take notice at all of the 4 & 5 star reviews BEFORE the big commotion happened recently. I dont believe I saw one negative post until the past week or so. The family who runs/own the Cancun Inn is not racist. They are legal, hard working business people who earn an honest living! There is no room for trouble makers in this world anymore, such as the trouble the woman (and her male friend) have caused for this family. If everyone would look deep within themselves, and find a kinder heart, none of this crap that is happening all over this country would be happening. Actually, I think all of the negative news caused by that woman has increased Cancun Inns business greatly. Ha ha... The joke is on you now Warwick woman. :)
