My family and I have been eating here for the "full gluten free menu" for years. Yes they HAD good ratings by the NewYork Times...years ago... My family has frequented this restaurant for the gluten free menu on special occasions for years and we have been happy - 4-5 stars. We used to get take out frequently until once they sent us home with non gluten free food which made me very sick- and all they said was sorry. Last night was the last time for good. We arrived early and were seated like we were in a cafeteria (on top of the next table all in a line-when the place was empty). Loud obnoxious Stan Fischler from the Islanders was our server and the service was good, until I asked if with my parmigian could I have sauted escarole instead of pasta like Ive done every other time I have ever eaten there. This Christmas Eve he comes out of the kitchen waving his hands saying "he said hes got 20 thousand orders going out tonite and no escarole for you." There were no gluten free options for dessert except for the worst dried out chocolate cake which didnt look or taste chocolate. They used to have gluten free tiramisu. I guess when your price fixed menu is just under $50 per person not including alcohol you cut stuff out. ????what? To top it off! the waiter came by 3 times to take the check while we were having dessert. My husband actually had to raise his voice asking him if he was trying to rush us out of our dinner when we were there less than an hour and the tables around us were empty!!! So, if it wasnt that Cafe Formaggio wasnt the only gluten free restaurant on Long Island I would suggest you skip it. For what you pay you get diner service and attitude, and the one star was not about the waiter.

Classic NY Italian food just like I remembered when I was a kid! We chose this place because it was close to our hotel and based on some Yelp reviews. The place even had a lounge singer for heavens sake. I couldnt quite tell if it was trying to be kitschy or it didnt realize it was kitsch but it worked for me. Youll find all your classics here focused on heavy carbs. Your carb craze starts with the mixed bread basket. Tasty with the red pepper hummus and olive oil. Mini pizza breads were nice and yes, you do fill up on bread there! The entrees were not subtle at all. I tried eating light, but it was a lost cause. I mistakingly thought the "insalata nova" would be small but it was a hearty meal. I recommend getting the dressing on the side because in my opinion it was just too much. Although Im not gluten-free, the restaurant caters to that crowd and they have a full gluten free menu…not just one or two dishes but a large variety so diners dont feel its an afterthought. Both the salad and the other items we tried were great but not stupendous. For the price it was an excellent value and excellent quality for "old world" style cuisine rather than some of the more trendy options at newer places and definitely not low cal low carb (but, ironically gluten free) Id totally go back for a nice hearty meal at a great price and a convenient location.

From the introductory snacks, appetizer and meals, I was amazed on the attention and effort taken with their customers. From getting to know each person on the table, as well as a familiar feel with a positive environment. The food had a great taste with the right flavorz, and the sauce that was part of the meal was excellent. My nease had a great birthday, and we will return to Cafe Formaggio with the family. There is Valley parking availiable at the restaurant, and you need to check it out for your self.

Im not sure how this place gets 4.5 stars. The wait service was rushed and inelegant. The food was so so at best. My Osso Buco was poorly seasoned, the only flavor coming from the risotto and brown sauce. My companions tortellini was soggy and over cooked. The lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs were comparable to what you can get from a pizzeria. Given the poor dinner, we skipped dessert and went elsewhere. All of the above for the price puts this into the never to go again list.

Im writing this review based upon multiple experiences at this restaurant but more so on my most recent. As always the food was great, drinks are always on point along with the service.... This past time my server (believe his name was James) was outstanding to say the least. Very soft-spoken, attentive, and extremely well mannered. If your going to be visiting cafe formaggio in the future I highly advise requesting James as your server. ENJOY!

Went here for my uncles birthday. The place was packed and we were a group of 11. Our server, Frank, was attentive, courteous, and appropriately funny. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Honestly the service alone warrants five stars. If youre looking for a new italian place with a nice size menu, good portions, and wont break the bank, this is your place. Will definitely be coming back.

Nice ambiance, good standard Italian fare. Attentive service and worth a come-back. Im back...about 3 months later. A bit disappointed in the tortellini soup; soup was almost tasteless and the cheese tortellini was all pasta. The rest of the meal was just ok...nothing to write home about, or bother to re-visit. Too bad, maybe it was an off night.

Great atmosphere, love the bread and the olives, cheese and hummus they serve with it. Never had a bad meal. Always enough food, usually take home enough for lunch the next day. service is excellent and very accommodating to allergies and changing up your dish.

One of the BEST around! Great ambiance, decent food, a quaint but fully stocked bar area... and a really pleasant staff, ESPECIALLY Lenny-- who is possibly the hardest working man in the food industry. I personally believe you wont be disappointed.

My nephews took my husband and I here for my birthday. The food is excellent I highly recommend this place. My husband had veal parm with angel hair pasta. The veal was like butter you could cut it with a fork. The atmosphere is also very lovely.

Absolutely perfect for Celiacs who cannot have any gluten! I have eaten here 3 times and never been sick from cross contamination (which is usually a severe problem for me). Everything Ive tried from the extensive gluten free menu was delicious!

The food was ok. The service was horrible. There was a hair in my food and the bathroom was filthy. I saw a kitchen worker go to the bathroom and not wash his hands. Obviously cleanliness is not something they give to much detail to.

The best gluten-free, affordable Italian restaurant in New York! The food is great whether you have any dietary restrictions, or not. Their menu has extensive options and substitutions are available upon request :)

The service here is always excellent, the food is always wonderful. The Gluten free menu is just amazing. I had the Chicken Rolladue which was delightful and my husband the Chicken Parm. All in all a lovely meal.
