I NEVER write reviews for anything but just wanted to say after my birthday in NYC, ended up meeting a few of my friends at a bar in Astoria id never heard of called Mad Donkey. At that point, i was already drunk so didnt need anything more then Rangers game, a place to sit and a beer or two. Let me just say though, EASILY one of the coolest atmospheres and COOLEST bartender weve ever had. Was incredibly accommodating (especially on a busy saturday night) and helpful and even gave us a break on some food that was served to us that we were waiting on for a while. (We didnt care but extremely nice of him to do nonetheless.) More places should act like this, realizing that its these types of people and gestures that keep customers coming back to your establishment. (I apologize..i was too f**ked up to remember bartenders name but bald dude with a sick cool beard) Anyway..were definitely coming back. Thanks.

For a place that advertises all you can have peanuts and the freedom to discard them at will wantonly, I eagerly anticipated my evening revelry. However upon arrival I found the environs to be dark and uninviting, although the staff is capable and hard working, there was a gruffness that seemed not to be born out of working long hours, but of a desire for the night to be over, or for them to be free of the clientele. Granted the fish bowls filled with 3 different kinds of rum and fruit punches makes my mouth water. And the decor of tap pulls hanging from the ceiling is very fun. But altogether the company I kept was the best part of the evening and it felt as though we were only scraping at getting minimal service. It may have just been that night, so I would try the Mad Donkey again, but dont try getting the nuclear wings---they are as nuclear as dropping a mentos into flat soda, sadly, no reaction...

Cheapest drinks I have found in the NYC area. I was with a group of friends in NYC this past weekend and stumbled across this bar. The bar is a dive bar and is very casual. Dont need to wear anything fancy coming here, just wear some jeans and a t shirt and you will fit in. The drinks were great and affordable compared to most of the other bars in town. The free peanuts were very nice to munch on while at the bar. The bar tenders were very nice and accommodating to us. We ordered so many drinks the bartender gave us at least one or two drinks for free which was nice. We happened to come on ladies night which is on Thursday, highly recommend for the girls! Ladies just pay $10 at the door and they have all the can drink beer, wine, and long drinks from 20:00-24:00.

I had a terrible experience there. One of the worst I have ever had & I have not been back since. I went as far as emailing management without making a public post but I was ignored. I wanted to at least be acknowledged & give them a fair chance to fix the issue. I found the environment flat out unwelcoming & unsafe, most importantly by the bartender who was astoundingly rude. I was there on a mellow week night, alone, to grab some food to go & get a drink while I waited. The clients are allowed to harass the women openly in front of the bartender. I would expect that employees would not allow guests to be so threatening, certainly not condone it. I left without spending a dime. I would not recommend this establishment & encourage others not to bother.

I have never been treated as rude as I was there. We were having a grand time until the locals showed up. The bartenders will treat you poorly and forget that you exist. Then they asked us to make room for the regulars. Stay away from this place. If I could give less than one star I would. We were having a great time. Then, things changed. Apparently you must have an "IN" here. Whdn we asked why we should move?. We were asked to leave. Awfully rude. LOCALS ONLY! Good luck!

Ill admit it. My review will be a little bit bias but with good reason. This is a bar that loves its customers and treats you like family the moment you walk through the door. Its been my go to neighborhood spot for many years. If youre into dive bars this is your place. Cheap drinks and lots of laughs. Oh and the burnt Mets hat stuck to the ceiling is mine. Long story. Maybe Ill see you in there and tell ya.

I travel a lot for work and there is always a question about a good place to eat and hang out. Often the safe, but boring choice, is to stay with chains.mim glad I didnt. The Mad Donkey is awesome in its friendly atmosphere and its food. The owner Tommy is invested and passionate about the business and all--in-all this place is my home away from home. Youve got to go.

Fantastic burgers. $12, but they are excellent and cooked to order. Comes with fries that are pretty damn good as well. They also have a few challenges that can earn you a Polaroid of yourself on their ceiling. Music wasnt too loud and you can actually hold a conversation. Bartenders were good-humored, attentive, and all-around great. Recommended!

The Mad Donkey is a great spot to go for an inexpensive lunch and a beer, or an after work hangout. Service is friendly, I always feel welcomed and that my business is appreciated. Paddy never lets you out the door disappointed. Too bad my company sent me to another office so I cant get back much anymore.

Very "Cheers" type of place. Most people that go here know each other and its fun to be a part of. Not a fancy bar, by any stretch, but its comfortable. They have a fun contest too where you can drink every beer on tap in one sitting and youll get your picture put up on the ceiling. Fun local place!

Found ourselves in the neighborhood one night and thought wed check it out. Food and service was a little underwhelming; free peanuts and games were awesome! But then the racially prejudicial comment when I asked for some water was just not cool. Not impressed.

I dont understand why people walk into a bar and expect it to be identical to their banal gated country club back home. I guess this is what NYC is striving for. Cheap drinks and theyre friendly. Show up in a suit and tie? Your mileage may vary.

Went for vacation to New York and a friend of mine loves this place. Tried the triple appetizer which was phenomenal and also did the pretzel after a couple drinks and that sober me up quick! Great music, fun ppl. Definitely will go back!

A classic neighborhood dive/watering hole. Complete with vocal bartenders, vast drink choices, buy backs and a ton of peanut shells. Love it for what it is: a messy clinic for alcohol assisted depression therapy.

Always a good time with drinks at a great price, especially in NYC. The food is great too! With a bar area up front and a good amount of space for a local bar in the back, this place has never disappointed.

Love this bar, great staff, ladys night every Thursday, you pay 10 bucks and drink free for hours. Good prices in general. Take some friends and enjoy.
