This place is over-hyped and over-priced. Everything is a la cart. I had a smoke stack priced at $6.25, Its a quarter pound burger (seriously overcooked) with a slice of American cheese, bacon and ranch dressing. For the price, I expected it to come with fries--nope, the fries were $2.85!! $5 for a small shake!!!!! If I had gone to a diner, and you know Jerseys famous for them, I would have gotten the same burger WITH fries and a drink for the same price!! If I had known the prices were that high, I would NEVER have gone. The meat is not even organic grass fed like Moes and Chipotle!! Its just Angus beef--thats a breed of cow, folks, it does not mean better quality. The prices might be good for the city, but this place is in Paramus!!! $2.50 for unsweetened iced tea??? That is a tremendous profit margin! Steak and Shake over in Paramus Park has 100% Organic beef and WAY more reasonable prices for similar food. Shake shack must spend a lot on their publicist to have people standing on line to pay that much money for mediocre food. It is nothing special and I will not be back!

The worst food, and worst bang for your buck, EVER!!! Garbage guy used same gloves to clean tables, then proceeded to use same gloves to hand a tray to a family of four!!! EEEWWWW to the highest degree!!! Bathrooms are breaking down, no one is cleaning them either!!! If you like water, urine, paper towels and toilet paper on the floor of your restroom, then this is your kind of a place!!! Found either a bone or a fat deposit in my burger, which almost made me GAG!!! Fries were overly salted, shakes were EHH at best, and the food was OVERPRICED!!! What happened next when my wife and I got home, was the kicker... We both felt weak, and thought we had just finished a 5 course meal at a Turkey Joint. We were sleepy, tired, and thought, what the hey did we just eat, and what was really in the food!!! Would you eat here, I highly doubt it!!!

First time at shake shack after it was recomended by anthony bordain on his show. Friends, it was the worst eating experience. The value of the food is much to be desired, super over priced for the quality of the food , they use potatoe buns instead of an artisan bun and in addition they offer the krinkel cut fries which taste like it was frozen and picked from a supermarket package I tried there so call shackburger which is their flagship burger and smash burger beats it,there is no comparision. One bite at the hamburger and it was enough. I felt cheated out of $21.31 which caused me this horrible experience. Do not understand how people can rate this place a 4. Goes to show give garbage to the masses and they will eat it and pay for it.

I really tried to like this place, but for 11 dollars for a basic drink (soda), fries, and a shackburger I expected better. The soda was like any other, the fries were good... freshly cut and not soggy or overcooked. The burger? I feel like I just drank a cup of grease. The whole thing was rather tasteless in general. Im pretty sure most of the people that rave about this place romanticize about it being from "NYC." Overall though, I just cant see the value. Other burger chains have better and cheaper food, as well as local options in general being better and cheaper. The decor might be a bit nicer, but this is one overpriced burger joint. I wont be returning.

I honestly dont understand where the low ratings are coming from. I dont mind paying a few extra dollars for quality food. This was literally the best burger Ive tasted in as long as I can remember. I dont normally eat burgers when I go out, but after eating here last week, I catch myself fantasizing about going back. The texture was unbelievable - it was like biting into a meat cloud. As I understand it, their patties are a proprietary blend using some of the best parts of the cow. I drove a half hour one way to get here and Ill go back again sooner

My rating varies depending on "what" Im rating so I wound up giving them a 3 overall. The burgers themselves get a 5, theyre fantastic. But the fries get about a 2 (Five Guys are 100x better), the shakes are ok but overpriced, the wait/line is waaaaay too long. Overall, Ill take Five Guys because the difference in burgers isnt that huge, the fries are better, the one in Nanuet now offers shakes (hand-made, $1 less in price), I can order online ahead of time and no wait.

So happy we have a Shake Shack in our neck of the woods now. Unlike the NYC locations, there is ample space here to spread out. The burgers are the high quality patties you expect from the NYC locations. The custard has a NJ twist as it is sourced from a local supplier. I love the burgers here though the fries are just ok, nothing like the spectacular spuds from 5 guys. The custard is also superb. Service is friendly and as quick as you could expect for fresh grilled food.

The first time I had a Shake Shack burger was a few years ago in Citifield and I have been a fan ever since. Yes you can find delicious cheaper burgers elsewhere but I do find myself judging them all by the taste of a Shake Shack burger! And for the price, to all those who complain about paying too much - this is the new standard in this country. Youre going to pay for what people want. If you dont want to pay for good burgers than go to McDonalds!

This was my first visit and it was very good! The burger I had, the SmokeShack, was delicious. I got mine medium; it was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The cheese fries were really tasty - crispy and well-being, with some nice melty cheese. We got shakes to go. I had a peanut butter, which was excellent. My SO got the Coffee Fair and that was also good. I have to get that one next time. Definitely worth a stop if you havent been before.

Food: Ive heard so much about this place and so we finally went and was definitely not impressed. The burgers were okay and the fries were extremely soggy and felt undercooked. Service: The service was okay, but just be careful when you go, the lines get crazy. Cost: Definetly not worth the money. There are other burger places (ie smashburgers, in and out, etc that are way better for the much less) Would I go back: Probably not.

Such a long line for overpriced, mediocre burgers/fries that are too small, too greasy, too salty. IMHO, there are much better options out there that offer more for less money. Id rather take a drive to Sonic, which is down the street on Rt. 17, or a Five Guys nearby. Heard rumors that In-n-out is coming to east coast, and if that ever happens, this place is so going out of business. NOT RECOMMENDED !!

After my 2nd visit, Ive reaffirmed that this place is just terrible; grease-soaked burger, soggy & mushy bun, and the shakes have NO TASTE... but the fries are actually ok. The employees are great and the place is clean, but the food is just not good. Oh and remember, the Paramus NJ location DOES NOT SERVE ALCOHOL- maybe people are usually just too drunk to realize the food sucks...
