Must say my first visit I was very impressed by the quality of the food. I was in Ocean Grove on 7/26 for a day at the beach. The server we had was pretty good. The one major issue I have was how the manager of the place treated a customer who had a legitimate issue. Her table waited over 35 minutes for their food. In fact my wife and I came in after her group and we were served before them. She compained to the manager about the dealy and shortly thereafter the food came out. But the issue was not that she complained but what the manager said after this woman and her group left. In front of all the other patrons he started to mock this person and make fun of them. Even called out to the waitress who served this table and say that he was going to "subsidize her tip." I have worked in food service before and sometimes a customer will rub you the wrong way, you deal with it individually. But you never broadcast to other patrons you disgust. Its a shame that such good food is surrounded by a manager who could care less about a customer. Even in the face of poor service or a mistake from his staff. He could have taken a bad situation and made something good out of it. Instead he made it worse. Thats a shame.

Giving two reviews, first one is on service and the food, Mike was our server, he was wonderful, Great personality, so personable and got to know us by our first name so five stars for that. The food was very good pear crumble pancakes with cinnamon crumble was delicious, the stuffed cream cheese French toast was not great, but it was not that bad either. My husband had a western omelette and all of the ingredients were fresh. the hash brown potatoes were kind of yucky they had a freezer burn taste to them and were very starchy. Overall the food was good. Mike was the saving grace for this restaurant. So now lets talk about all the people cluttered around the counter and the cash register. They are not very friendly. and the woman that was the bus girl, was not friendly at all. after we finished eating and were finishing our coffee she kept coming over Cleaning up little things and glaring at us and what she really wanted to say was get the hell out but of course she didnt. And no they did not need the table. So Mike the server made us feel very welcome but the owners/managers make us never want to go back again.

Dont be fooled. Besides the service being slow, we went here for breakfast one morning because we saw that it was pretty crowded the day before and with a unique name/concept like "Starving Artist" we thought that wed get a great meal. Now we know why theyre starving - this place cant make money cause the food stinks. My wife ordered banana stuffed french toast and the bananas we all brown. The breakfast potatoes were cold and flavorless. Come to think of it, everything was flavorless. Then we realized why. On that particular day, we were the only ones under 60. Out of four meals, the only positive was my chicken fried steak. But again, the gravy tasted like water and the eggs looked and tasted old.

I have been to many shore restaurants and this one is special. The food is creative and quite tasty. The kitchen pays careful attention to making sure each part is good. At the Starving Artist, you can be sure that each part of the meal from atmosphere, service, presentation, timing, taste, and cleanliness have been given proper attention. I have dined there maybe 30 times, and have never been disappointed. Please dont go there, because so far I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for a seat. Bill Asay

Love the breakfasts. We come back here every year. Good tea options. Variety of specials. And always good choices on the regular menu. Try the crumb cake pancakes! Get there early and wait outside in the back by Days ice cream to get a seat first. Your choice of inside or out. Great atmosphere, draw on the table paper. The wait for food is probably less than average, if you are a few people. Would definitely recommend!

This place is the greatest breakfast lunch spot in all of new jersey, i give you my word on that. There is the truly amaxing waitress there Aileen, an she is absolutely amazing. I recommend her as your waitress, i get her every time an she is truly a saint. The starving artist is the place to go! #greatfood #greatpeople #greatservice

Ice cream is decent, but Nagles beats them on both taste and customer service. I didnt like how I couldnt bring my tiny 4 lbs puppy up on the deck to eat ice cream with my wife and daughter. At Nagles, you can sit outside at a table and have pup in your lap while eating you treat. Again, Nagles is the place for ice cream, not Days.

I had chicken fingers and home fries. Chicke fingers were good. But the home fries were the absolute best I ever had. They werent just cooked cut potatoes. They were seasoned and amazing.

Food and service was excellent! I got an omelette, breakfast potatoes and bacon and it was portioned out perfectly and tasted delicious. Days ice-cream is fantastic as well! A go to spot!

Love their omelettes and the morning glory muffins. I always get a side salad instead of toast and potatoes.

Pancakes are the hit here. Anything sweet, really, as the ice cream parlor in the back rivals Nagles!
