This is one of those surprisingly good hole-in-the-wall places you didnt think would exist in the area, but it does. Their noodles in hot peanut sauce (their authentic version of cold sesame noodles) is absolutely out of this world. I mean I dont think Ill ever enjoy normal cold sesame noodles after that. I had their dim sum which was very good as well. Its not the prettiest place in the world; I asked for water for the table and was told they dont serve water (really) and I would have to take a bottle from their convenience store-esque refrigerator instead. That being said, with dim sum dishes, the noodles, and the water, the bill only came out to $20. Great prices, great food, and despite a few insignificant drawbacks this place has my recommendation. I will visit again.

Amazing food, always a go-to restaurant when Im back in Jersey. The bad service ratings below are from a misunderstanding. This restaurant is in the same style as most small noodle houses in Asia: no waiters or waitresses: so you sit where you want, you serve yourself tea, you bring the menu to the cashier to order, you bring your cash to the cashier to pay. So no tipping is necessary, but tipping as always is welcomed if you appreciate their great cooking style. Beef noodle soup and steamed pork buns are a must.

This is not your typical Chinese fast food restaurant. This place is known for their noodle soup and pork soup buns. Their beef noodle soup is soooo good. The bad service that others are talking about is definitely misunderstood. Its not your typical sit down place. You find your seat, go to the register to order (sometimes theyll take your order from your table), and pay at the register. Its not your typical sit down and be served restaurant. Just sit, eat the great food, pay and enjoy the food coma.

Shanghai Bun is not your ordinary Chinese-American junk Chinese food restaurant. I put it in the category of a quirky hole-in-the-wall place with a great menu. The complaints about service are way off base. This is not a fancy sit-down restaurant and they do serve on china once they know you as a regular. The food itself is spectacular for a casual Asian restaurant.

This place is no frills and probably has some of worst service on the planet.... but their food is nothing short of excellent. The only Asian restaurant Ive ever been to that always has several Asian families eating every time I go there. They have a menu worth exploring if youre not afraid to try new things.

This is the worst Chinese restaurant I and my friends have ever seen. their food is not good and their service especially sucks and stinks. The female owner is very rude without any manners, she treats customers very impolitely, making people feel like you owe her even you go to dine to support her business

Places like these are true gems for the neighborhood. For a small greasy spoon joint like this place I was surprised to see the noodles be handmade. I expect the dumplings to be made in house ( which they were) but much added respect for homemade noodles as I know how hard they r to make

I only got takeout from this place and it was really good. The only reason I didnt give the place five stars is because I didnt get to dine in the restaurant and experience their service. However, the ambiance of the place seemed really nice when I picked up my food.

This is the best Chinese food I have had. The service is poor. I received my food, waited, ate it and then waited another 20 min for my fiance to get hers. This has happened at least three times over the past few years.

They have pretty good food but we came in one day and waited ten minutes to be seated, they just pointed their finger at us and went back to work. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere that night

Great dumplings and hand drawn noodles. Authentic noodle shop food, service is typical of that in Asia. Dont expect a wine list or lengthy explanation of menu items, but food is great.

Soup dumpling heaven. Eating at Shanghai Bun is always worth the drive. I suggest ordering a few menu items and sharing with the table, including the spicy shredded beef soup.

Been here plenty of times and it is usually great. Food was meh this time, plus it smelled absolutely horrifying for most of dinner to the point where some of us couldnt eat.

Lots of authentic dishes you wont find elsewhere in the area. They may have some specials, like cumin lamb or mussels in black bean sauce, that are great.

All I have to say is, Soup dumplings are good and food is cheap. Just be prepared in the winter to wear a coat because there is no heater.
