So it was late night the other day and myself and two of my friends figured we would hit up the diner for some hot chocolate and a midnight snack. The diner we usually frequent ( Union Plaza ) was closed because it was a weekday and 1:30 AM and is usually only open 24/7 on weekends so we decided to hit up Tropicana. We go in and order our hot chocolates and some pie with a young waiter, looked to be in his 20s. My friend ordered 2 hot chocolates for himself, a piece of apple pie and a smoothy. They were out of strawberries so he asked to substitute the strawberries with strawberry ice cream instead. The waiter seemed more interested in the people coming from the club that just let out then the people he was waiting on. He didnt write down our order and Im guessing he went by memory which is why it was so screwed up. First off, he only brought out 1 hot chocolate for my friend when he ordered two and no smoothy. It was a pain to get him to come back to correct the issue because he was so caught up talking to people from the club. Eventually we got his attention and asked for the smoothy. He says "You canceled that order." We reminded him that we suggested the strawberry ice cream instead and refreshed his memory on the "two hot chocolates" in which he seemed annoyed and then proceeded to tell us that we were going to have to wait a while. To make a long story short, after 15 minutes and no hot chocolate or smoothy and this kid chatting it up with friends, we walked out and left some money on the table. The plot then thickens...A week later I go back to Tropicana with another friend. It was New Years day and we were hung over and were looking for a nice breakfast. We order the Eggs Benedict from this nice waitress ( I believe she was new, she said it was her 3rd shift ever ). We got some coffee which wasnt that great, drank it down real quick then figured we would go out for a quick smoke before the breakfast got there. We were outside for all but 4 or 5 minutes only to come back in seeing another couple being seated at our table, our drinks and everything already cleared. I walked up and said to the couple, "We were sitting there and ordered our breakfast, it should be out any minute." In a Spanish accent the female stated "This is where she sat us so go talk to her." So I went up to the seater and politely said, "We were sitting at that table, our breakfast is about to come out. We went out for a smoke while we waited and you sat these people in our seats." I would figure she would apologize and sit these people in a different spot, instead she got a little smart and said "Well did you tell your waitress you were stepping out?" Last time I checked, I didnt have to run my routine by the waitress, especially if she knows we just ordered breakfast. Plus she wasnt around and we werent about to go find her. This lady then goes up to a gentlemen ( manager maybe? ) and tells him our situation. He then decides that we were going to have to sit at a different table now even though we were there first, and comfortable in that spot. After the no apology and us having to move, I think my friend blew a fuse and said "No way, see ya later, thanks for the free coffee." Personally, I was hungry and really didnt care, but I could see where he was coming from. So we left, a little upset and majorly hungry. We ended up going to eat at Union Plaza Diner on Route 22, if your from the area, you probably know about it. Once we got there, we were smooth sailing, enjoyed our Eggs Benedict and bagels with cream cheese and jelly. We even smoked a cigarette and didnt have all our stuff cleared and forced to move. They say the 3rd time is the charm, but I dont think I will ever be going back to that establishment again. Or maybe I will give them a year to clean up their act. My friend thinks there were some underlying racial issues here, us being white, and everyone else involved being Spanish, but that may or may not have been the issue.

04/18/17 .. I have been going to Tropicana since I was little and I came today by myself ordered an appatizer and breakfast plate. I always get the best service here hands down! There is a Colombian skinny lady that has been my waitress twice and every time Im served by her I get the ugliest attitude . My entire time eating she hasnt asked me how Im doing. She took my fork with my appatizer plate, Ive needed a drink for idk how long & shes passed by me 3 times and even sat infront of me to assemble utensils and still nothing. I just drank my water . Honestly the attitude and horrible attentiveness really rubs off. I just asked for the check bc Im so annoyed on how bad her service is. The first time I was served by her I thought maybe she was having a bad day & I tipped nicely . But today Im not tipping at all bc I couldnt even get a simple smile or another apple juice to wash down my food. What bothered me soooooo much is I use to be a server and would never given that type of service. You are a reflection of where you work, your attitude rubs off on people and your tip reflects your service. Ill always be loyal to Tropicana but I tell you one thing, if Im ever appointed to her I will absolutely ask for another waiteress.. -Emily

By far the most attractive hostesses at this place!!! I mean, for this country that is:) Additionally, i wanted to comment on the quality of food and service - they are outstanding! The only thing, which makes this wonderful experience kinda bad - is that VERY ANNOYING MUSIC, which owners of this diner ASSUME that people like... I will not speak for the majority of patrons, however, while in the restroom (which is super clean and nice!) i observed an older gentleman, who complained about the loudness of this so-called "music" TO ME! Obviously, we quickly found a mutual ground, because it turned out that he actually got a headache after listening to this "music" for almost an hour and wanted to leave. And that is why i am giving this place 4 stars, which otherwise would receive 5 hands down. It is no secret, that the annoying music played in most of the similar establishments throughout the world (Ive heard it in many countries) is there for a very simple reason - it is believed that people actually consume more while exposed to this sh...low frequency thing. However, guys in this diner - are YOU such money hungry individuals, completely ignorant of others comfort? I doubt it and hope you will at least keep it lower...thanks:)
