What a remarkable restaurant the Spanish Olive is. We had not been there before, but were recommended by a friend for their fantastic Cuban/Spanish cuisine. Four of us pored over the online sumptuous menu and then made a reservation(they do accept them during the winter season). Greeted by Bob the owner, we were shown to a nice spotless table in an intimate dining room and felt instantly at home, as if we had been there many times. Terry the entertainment on Fridays filled the atmosphere with his splendid guitar work, and created the atmosphere for good digestion, while still being able to have a conversation with the rest of our party. Maria came over to get our drink choices as well as open our wine. It is a BYOB place but they do have fresh fruits you can purchase to make your own sangria, or just drink whatever potent potable you brought in with you. Appetizers were ordered and we had three Delicious items, one better then the next. There was a special shrimp item with a mango dipping sauce, we had a Chorizo and shrimp skewers dish, as well as drunken clams. They were all devoured and savored at the same time. Even their bread was delicious. As with the entrees, all the food was fresh and prepared to order. The shellfish, clams and mussels had no grit and no funky flavors, which was so special. We had 4 entrees, one was the Paella Valenciana I ordered, We had an order of Shrimp with rice and vegetables, a similar choice with chicken instead of shrimp, and lastly an order of empanadas. Items came with salad or soup, beans, plantains, and a special wafer like item I do not recall the name of. We ate until we were pleasantly stuffed, and it was all so delicious it was difficult to stop. We ate and smiled and tried every dish without finding one disappointing item. There was not even one disappointing ingredient. Amazing! We still has enough leftovers to make two dinners out of, which we brought home later and watched it be devoured by our grown children. Sadly we had left for a dessert, but there did have four delicious choices, including a home made Flan and a chocolate cake. There is no question that this establishment will be one of our new favorites and regular dining experiences, and I cant wait to try everything on the menu and then start through it again. What a terrific treat, affordable and plentiful, and especially exquisite.

This is the first restaurant review Ive ever written but this place really inspired me. We had a wonderful meal and felt right at home. Roberto, the owner and chef, came to greet us when our dinners were served and told us the story behind his restaurant and some of his family recipes. The food was classic Cuban and Spanish. We started with the empanadas which were savory and tasty, traditional Latin fare. My husband and son each had a bowl of Caldo Gallego, a traditional soup from Galicia, Spain, usually made of white bean, kale, potatoes, a good amount of garlic and chorizo and/or salty ham/pork. At the Spanish Olive, they skip the chorizo and make the ham the star. Delicious and surprisingly lighter than most Caldo Gallegos, in fact, it was the best Ive tasted in a very long time! For dinner, I had the Mariscada which was served in a classic caldero, iron pot. It was filled with fresh clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and lobster meat, with onions, tomatoes and peppers served over Spanish yellow rice, a seafood feast! My husband had the bistec empanizado, and my sons had the Cuban staple, Ropa Vieja. All the plates were returned to kitchen clean! LOL! But of course we left room for dessert, my husband had the classic flan, my son had the decadent chocolate cake, my other son had the mango cheesecake, a traditional cheesecake with a tropical flair, simply yummy!! But I hit the home run with the tres leches! The Tres Leches tasted just like homemade, it was to die for! If I had to criticize something it would be their Sangria base. They are a BYOB place, but offer the sangria base. They include apples, grapes & lemons. The lemons make it a bit too tart for my taste, I would prefer orange slices over the lemons to add a bit of sweetness. Overall, an amazing meal in a home like environment that I would absolutely recommend to friends and bring friends to enjoy in the future!

Please Note: This review is for The Spanish Olive(New owners, new restaurant) NOT The Spanish Potato (Former owner, former restaurant)! We tried the Spanish Olive for the first time, on Wednesday, April 27th. The menu is well planned and very complete, though not overwhelming, and contains a complete set of Cuban appetizers and entrees which should satisfy the most discerning pallet. There were four in our party and we had the following entrees: Pernil wholesome pork shoulder soaked in a fragrant garlic paprika saffron marinade for twenty-four hours, and then slow braised to tender perfection; Camarones a la Mozambique succulent shrimp braised in white wine and Sofrito paprika; Paella Marinera the pride of Spain’s Costa Brava tender lobster, shrimp, clams, chorizo and mussels decorate our saffron infused short grain rice; Ropa Vieja rubbed with Caribbean spices and marinated in a blend of olive oil and citrus, this beef is slow braised with onions, peppers, and Spanish olives until fork tender. The presentation of our individual entrees was superb. Food quality and preparation was perfect and suited our individual tastes nicely. Prices are moderate and value is top drawer! Kudos to the chef and staff at the Spanish Olive; its a dining experience thats well worth it! This restaurant is truly a culinary gem. We will be dining there again. Give them a try; you wont be disappointed!

Just left the Spanish Olive and my husband and I are so happy we decided to give it a try!! I am Cuban American and was raised with a grandma who made all traditional Cuban food from scratch. The soup was excellent with chorizo, garlic and bread (cant remember the name lol) we had the Spanish Kisses as an appetizer and the shrimp and chorizo were great with lots of flavor. I had bistec empanizado and my husband had the churrasco... Both were delicious!! The rice and beans were great and each Dish came with maduros and tostones which Id never seen before but enjoyed! I was already very happy with our experience and decided to get a tres leches to seal the deal lol it didnt disappoint! Everything was very delicious!! And to top it off El Cumbanchero came on while we were there and really reminded me if grandma=) we will definitely be back!!

After looking around the jersey shore for a place to have dinner for mothers day, we found the Spanish Olive. The place itself is small and quaint with a cool decor of Cuba. The husband and wife who own the place are awesome! They treated everyone like family. Service was super and the place being a BYOB is key.. we brought wine and they made the sangria with fresh fruit.. it was refreshing and tasty. We ordered from a prefixed menu.. from the apps to the entrees it was all delicious!!... if youre down the shore for the summer or whenever... this place is worth checking out!

Delicious Cuban food! Very friendly atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and the owners are truly awesome. Had the Ropa Vieja, its absolutely delicious!! We stopped by with my three yr old, extremely bossy niece and they were very sweet with her. Everytime I reminded her she needed to be polite the staff would tell us it was ok and they would stop to chat with her. I dont incourage my niece to be bossy and I make sure to correct her but I found it sweet that they would take time to chat with her instead of ignore her and look at her as a bratty three yr old.
