As a German loving Mexican I have been to more Mexican joints than my little stomach can count. I love Mexican food. Im from Newark but happened to be in the area and the question of "where to eat" arises. Immediately I see this hidden little gem on google maps. Review: the outside looks terrible, but from someone who has ate off of Mexican food trucks, I never judge the outside appearance. We thought the place was closed as there were no cars and it was a Sunday. But they were open. We walked in to a deserted place. No one else besides the staff in the place. Upon sitting down, we were greeted and served fresh tortilla chips and salsa, oh my goodness, so good, so fresh. 2 minutes later the cook brought out cheese on tortillas, I fell in love with the place even more. Onto the food... I ordered the taco, burrito, and chima platter. The freshest guac Ive ever had, the beef in the taco had original seasonings and not preblend of Oretaga most places seem to use. The beans and Mexican rice were outstanding. I dont understand why this place wasnt hopping. This is a great authentic Mexican joint. I will defiantly go out of my way to come back.

If I could give negative stars I would....Were there for dinner. Order a pitcher of margs, two soups, and one dinner to share. While eating our soups, hubby and I had a disagreement. I walked out, he left $100 on the table and went to follow me. The waiter said $100 was not enough (after asking the next day, the bill would have been about $107). So my husband put another $100 down. Now mind you, we got through one glass of margs each and a few spoonfuls of soup, no meal yet. They clearly knew there was a problem because there was a slight scene. The next day I called and politely asked if they would give me our change. They flat out refused, nor did they offer a replacement meal. Now, I understand that that us having a problem doesnt constitute them having a problem. But I think they really took advantage of the situation especially since I called less than 24 hours later. I hope they enjoy their almost 100% tip. Opportunistic bottom feeders.

Was a great spot, years ago. Tonight we thought wed give it another try, huge mistake. The food was bland and to our utter dismay, we were charged $1.00 for lemons for our water and $2.50 for chips. Now when we sat we received chips. Then we ordered guacamole for our appetizer. Needless to say we ran out of chip so asked for more. At NO TIME were we told that it was going to cost money for more chips or for lemons. Their prices have increased and the service and food quality has decreased. Will NEVER go back!

Surprisingly, northern New Jersey is filled with Mexican restaurants that are mediocre at best. Cinco De Mayo in Bloomingdale is a welcome exception and a happy discovery. Do not judge a book by its cover - the building is certainly nothing to look at. Youll receive a warm welcome and pleasant service. The food is authentic, freshly prepared, and delicious. If you live in or near the Butler/Bloomingdale/Kinnelon area and appreciate good Mexican cuisine - I highly recommend Cinco De Mayo.

We live in Butler and always eat from the same places. We are a huge fan of Mexican and love a similar place in NY. I cannot believe we have lived only a mile from this place and just found it a few months ago! Superb food, superb service and amazing drinks! Very affordable! We eat there often! Cant say enough. Actually calling now to make reservations for tonight! If you enjoy Mexican this is by far the best we have had!!

Horrible service.. Waiter was too busy meanwhile the place was empty. Waited more than 10 minutes for water. Waiter took the menu out of my hand before I could even order. Once done eating we hadnt seen anyone who worked there to ask for the bill because they were all eating up front at their own table while working! Very very poor service I would never recommend this place to anyone.. Save your money!

This place looks a little disturbing from the outside... very small and sort of disheveled looking. Inside is neat and clean, though somewhat cramped and dark. The real treat, however, is the food! Fresh Chips and home-made salsa, wonderful margaritas, and the most incredible Tamales Ive ever eaten. They need to work on their internet presence! Finding menus or coupons is virtually impossible.

This place is the epitome of the hole in the wall kind of restaurant that is too often overlooked. Nothing gourmet, but every dish is delicious, substantial and served hot. The staff is excellent, providing what you need and staying out of the way when not. Ive revisited this place twice and it has proven consistent. An excellent alternative to a few of the good Mexican spots in the general area.

I dont give 5 stars for just anything - this place is amazing, and Ive yet to have a bad meal, or bad service. In fact, I feel like a family member when I come in every time. I wrote this same review on their Facebook page, and copied it here - its been a long time since I wrote my review on Facebook and have been back here many-many times (mainly with orders to-go) and the food is out of this world.

We stopped by on our way home from a hiking trip and Im not going to lie, I want to make a trip out here again so we can stop for dinner here again. The food was delicious, the staff super nice, and they even gave us complimentary desert and tequila shots. Im sure that is not the norm but man what a great dinner experience!

Great food, atmosphere (inside or out), service, and price. If you do sit outside, as we like to do in warm weather, you will be right on Hamburg Turnpike, across the street from a Quik-Check. It still works. Its busy, some noise, but the food and service and people/car watching is great. Try this place.

Great place. The food was delicious. The service was great. The waiters are very attentive and we even received a complimentary dessert on the house called sweet chimichangas and it was delicious. My husband orders the campesino with steak and I ordered the same but with chicken. I would definitely go back.

THE HELL WITH PLACE.. The staff is disorganized and unfriendly. The jerkoff waiter got all aggravated cause I was standing in the middle of the aisle just waiting to put a name on the list or something. No greeting or anything. THE PLACE IS SMALL AND THE FOOD SMELT AND LOOKED LIKE chilies.

This is the best Mexican around-- we know because weve tested. Our family has been coming here since the day they opened and will always prefer Cinco De Mayo! Amazing margaritas and great options for the kids, too! The Mariachi band will knock your socks off.

Awesome little place! Passing thru on the way back to NH - Googled a good Mexican restaurant and this came up! I love my flavorful spicy Mexican food and margaritas, it was great! Fast service and excellent food.
