This evening was our first time to the Brookside Bistro, and we never had the opportunity to go to the original establishment as we have only moved to the area recently. We finally decided to stop in after, earlier today, talking to a neighbor who said she was bringing in some peppers from her garden because she was friends with the owner. Well when we hear something like that, we’re intrigued! We walked in just before opening and without reservations, but they were very welcoming and sat us anyway. I must say, that the food was AMAZING! Between the outstanding food, extremely friendly management and staff and very reasonable prices, this place may be my all-time favorite dining establishment. I am active duty military and also a foodie, so I have been all over and eaten at many great and unique places, but there is just something really special about the Brookside Bistro. My family and I will be sure to be back many more times because I am very excited about the items on the menu that I couldn’t fit into my stomach this evening. If you find yourself traveling on route 287 through North Jersey, be sure to get off at exit 53 and check out this lovely little bistro, and it will make your trip that much better!

I went to this restaurant based on the stellar reviews but am pretty shocked at how my experience differed from those reviewers. I found the food to be average and bland from the beginning to the end. My guest and I could not bring ourselves to finish our meals, because of the lack of taste. I had one of the fish entrees. The fish was actually a bit tough, the vegetables surrounding it were overcooked and everything was doused in a bland, boring brown sauce. As a result, every single component of this "complex" dish tasted the same. I would say that the highlight of my dinner was the ice cream, which was creamy and rich. To top it all off, the waiter slapped a bill on our table while we were in the middle of eating dessert! For that kind of money, there are many much better restaurants in NJ, not to even mention New York.

Not worth the price. Granted it was a busy Sat night. There were plenty of wait persons but service was bad. when our waitress finally showed to take our order-no greeting or apology for the wait. cheese platter- poor presentation and when the meal showed more than an hour later- beef medallions ordered medium rare were dried out & the tiny vegetables were overcooked. Waitress never asked how dinner was. few staff members dressed in tee-shirts. not exactly five-star service to go with expensive tab.

I agree with the March 6 2010 review. The food was bland and just ok. The service was great but although friends have raved about this place, I think they were under the spell of those before them who raved. The food really was average and not, in my opinion, worth the price. I dont think it should be on zagats top list either. Several things were underseasoned and the quality of some of the dishes made them undesirable to continue eating.

The 5 course was excellent! Clearly the chef put an artists touch on each course. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. An eclectic list of excellent wines. Save room for Desserts with homemade ice cream.

Went there with our foodie friends and everyone loved it. It was refreshing to have delicious flavors come through without the over salting so many restaurants do. With a reasonable wine list as well, we will be back soon.

This is the re-vamp of our go-to restaurant. It is every bit as delightful and the whole family loves it. We have celebrated there many times and always have wonderful food and service.

Food was pretty good, but the service was lacking. The dessert menu was boring. Not my first time here. Seems like something is off.
