I had a dream this morning when I woke up: ice coffee from Foundation Grounds. I fell in love with their ice coffee on Mothers Day this year when I discovered as I was drinking mine that its made with ice cubes that are made of coffee! Now that Summer School was over for me (they open at 7am, when I have to be at work) I decided to kick my official vacation off right with some ice coffee. So, on a rare Thursday morning when both my wife and I are off and at home with our son, we hopped in the car and headed to Maplewood. Because our son is 2, and my wife and I both have a sweet tooth, we decided to grab some donuts from Strange Donuts just down the street. Once we had our allotment of sugar in hand, we headed to Foundation Grounds. I parked my sons stroller in the outdoor area with our donuts and my wife went in to procure our coffees. This is where things went wrong. Just a few minutes later, my wife came out with no coffees and said we had to leave. Apparently, we were not allowed to have another stores pastries in their patio area- even though we were buying our coffee there. My wife was simply going to buy our coffees there anyway, but the man who waited on her (Trent) was loud and rude about the whole situation and my wife was embarrassed. Plus, they seem to always take forever to make a coffee (which I never minded before, since I felt it was worth a little waiting). So, we left without the coffee I had been dreaming about for a month, never to return after such ridiculous and rude treatment. It should be noted here, that I saw no signs stating that Foundation Grounds did not allow such a practice. Not to mention, the rude treatment from Trent. We ended up back at Strange Donuts for coffee and when the guys there heard about the situation they were surprised. Apparently, Strange Donuts often shares product with Foundation Grounds. Also, there was a large party of people in the patio area right next to us who did not appear to have any food or drink to speak of and they were not asked to leave. Shame on you Foundation Grounds for ruining my dream. I dont plan on going back.

Kitschy decor, not a lot of space, but theyre expanding. Went on a really rainy day, so I couldnt make use of the patio. The coffee tastes good. The honey cardamom latte covered up the taste of the espresso, which was disappointing, but the flavor combination of honey and cardamom is very nice. When ordering a shot in the dark, the menu says it comes with two shots. They put the shots in the cup and then you, the customer, add the brewed coffee. The espresso tasted great, but in my cup was only one shot, and it was not a full ounce. Serving it like this makes a high probability that the shot will "die" before the customer adds brewed coffee. I suppose no one has complained, so it works for them as a process. I also found the brewed coffee to be a bit weak and couldnt really taste the real flavor of the roast. Id go again, if I were in the area, but I dont think Id go out of my way.

Delicious. I had a double shot with a drip coffee. It was perfect; full-bodied, hot, and caffeinated. My wife had a latte which she enjoyed. They appealed to the ethical food crowd with their hormone free feta to vegan pastries. We didnt eat --but wanted to. The place was full of people and plenty of lively conversation. The baristas were friendly and diligent. Great place--Id drive out of the way to go there. (We frequently drive around the country, refusing to buy coffee at chains while searching for locally-owned, hardworking, small businesses who are chasing their dreams and making good coffee.)

I understand Julie being embarrassed --not knowing the long-held food manners of not eating others food at a restaurant! Wake up please... this has always been the norm for all eateries. Just like the "ugly americans" that bring their kids disgusting McDs grease into a fine dining establishment to have the oysters... a coffee place that serves the MANY yummy pastries and brunch/lunch choices that Foundation Grounds serves has a right to limit what you can bring in. Why you would want food from somewhere else is beyond me... smh

Wow. I knew I wanted a strong breve cappuccino, and Foundation Grounds delivered--truly the best Ive had in a loooooong time. GREAT, rich flavor and plenty of umph. This place will be my go-to for coffee when Im in the city. I ordered the Bacon & Cheddar quiche and it was absolutely delicious. Saving the crust for last was a special treat: it was like eating an unsweetened cookie. Ive never had an unsweetened cookie, but if there was such a thing, it would be this: fabulous! Cant overstate it; fabulous.

Quite simply, they have the best ham sandwich I have ever eaten. It is divine. Glad that its locally produced, cruelty-free, organic, yada yada yada, but none of that would matter if it werent so amazingly delicious. Dont believe me? I dare you to try it and see if its not the best thing youve eaten for lunch all year. Add to it that perfect green salad, and theres nothing better. Cant wait to go back next week!

I go here for my Dirty Chai and whatever random scones or assorted goodies they have in their small pastry case. My lady loves their Lavendar latté and usually cant pass on the assorted goodies as well. The staff there is always friendly and helpful. The place itself is small but very inviting and comfortable. They typically do biscuits and gravy on the weekends. And its damn good. So thats nice.

My favorite coffee shop. I live near by and may be biased, but these folks have it all. Great coffee (Goshen - yum-o), excellent espresso drinks, fantastic baked goods (I mean really fantastic), funky vibe, eco-friendly, neighborhood lovin, and more. If you love coffee shops with a fun & funky atmosphere and scrumptious carbs with your caffeine, you owe yourself a visit to FoGro.

For as busy as it is on this Sunday morning, it is still relatively quiet and you are easily able to hear the people youre seated with without raising your voices. The Pho-Grey Tea is outstanding with hints of lavender and brewed to perfection. The Morning Glory cake was the perfect amount of sweetness with the cream cheese icing and packed full of carrots, nuts and currants.

A really great coffee shop. Often stop here towards the end of long bike rides to fuel up. They make great coffee. I usually go for a sandwich and soupe du jour. Menu and baked goods taste as if homemade. Bit of a focus on hipster-ish vegan/gluten free stuff but quality is so good I dont mind (thats saying something). Friendly folks behind the counter.

Friendly folks and vegan options (i.e. more than salads). Hearty breakfast and lunch menu, diverse options for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. Located in a hip shopping strip, along with other small trendy shops. Great to park in large open public lot and walk around. Friendly staff. I would just love for them to be open later! <3

The food is good, the coffee is ok, but the staff is not the most with it. From the other side of the bar there is typically at least one problem, delay or moment of confusion with my order. About 50% of the time, the confusion issue is accompanied by an attitude issue.
