Had our first, but not last visit last night. What a great Mom & Pop find! Our meal was so good that even our picky-eater son wanted to plan our next visit before we had even left. The menu was not as large as some Chinese restaurants but had the classics. We sampled the cream cheese wontons, chicken wings, shrimp egg foo young, shrimp almond ding (med heat), and chicken sweet n sour. All really, really delicious! Everything was served hot, made-to-order, homemade and extremely well-seasoned and prepared. They are famous for their Chicken Wings. We got some and they were truly delicious. The meat was infused with a wonderful ginger-garlic marinade. They were fried in a very light, crispy batter. The shrimp was also firm, flavorful and perfectly cooked in both dishes we had. The egg foo young came with three very large patties. It was hand made at order and chock full of veggies and meat/shrimp held together in a delicate egg cake. The accompanying gravy was not too heavy with a subtle, just-right seasoning. The hand battered chicken in homemade sweet/sour sauce was incredible. The batter retained its light crunch despite being in a sauce. Not sure how they pulled that off. It reminded me of what Chinese Food used to taste like when I was a kid; before the large food distributors got involved and started selling frozen prepared foods to small restaurants like this. We also loved the very friendly service by the inquisitive co-owner. Her enthusiasm for the restaurant and the quality of the food they serve was very evident. Prices were very reasonable too. Interior is very informal and casual (no problem going in your sweats) and clean.

Horrible Horrible Horrible! This is one of my ugh choices of I am too tired to cook and its near home Ill give it another try....Mistake! The owner at the front counter was so rude to several customer including myself my last visit! The place is very dirty and I did not notice till I was waiting for my food and looking around the dinning area. I am not talking about dirty like a group a people with kids just left and no chance to clean up yet. Dirty like not cleaned for over several weeks and 2 dead mice. One mouse had been there for a while like dried up and almost mummified. Dont dare ask for more soy sauce or anything they will rip your head off or charge you more. Sorry you order over $40.00 worth of food and 3 packets of soy wont be enough. I and the other customers spoke outside and are never going back! I left the food by the way and walked out. Oh and if you do go in do not use your credit card. their credit machine does not work well and they will swipe the card several time and it will charge your card 2 xs and good luck trying to get it reversed with them. They will not admit to a mistake or apologize.

I dont know what the people with the bad reviews were ordering, but honestly, I havent had as good of "real" Chinese food since I left McHenrys Plum Garden behind 25 years ago. If you are looking for a modern feel classy restaurant, no you wont be impressed. Is the building old? Yes, but I felt it was clean, didnt see any mice in the dining room as was claimed in previous reviews. If you are looking for good food with good pricing and fair portions, this is a great place to go. My husband isnt fond of Asian food, but he was even satisfied. He got the cashew beef, it wasnt exactly what he was expecting, but he was looking more for a Mongolian beef, but said it was good. Not our last visit, I dont believe. They are delivering exactly what they claim to be. If you are looking for a Red Lobster...then I suggest you go there instead.

I have been eating at Golden Chow Mein since the late 80s and the quality has not changed a bit. It is a window in the wall but inside this window is some of the most amazing food. First and foremost is the BBQ Pork and Kung Pao Chichen. They are mind-bogglingly good, really. I wept openly the first time I had their roast pork it was so good. Next is the Chop Suey Chow Mein which is fantastic. There are very authentic dishes throughout the menu. Service was perfect and smooth. Order comes just perfectly on time. If you go as a single or double you may be seated next to another person or couple which in my opinion is a benefit. This is one of my favorite places in the world. Oh, try Beef Subgum Chow Mein. You wont be disappointed.

I love this place!!! I have gone here since I was kid with my family, now having gone there in my adult life the owner always asks me how my mom and dad are doing!!! Customer service is amazing, I love places like that. The food is amazing. I always have to get like 4 different things so I can have a sample of each that will last me a couple days. Must try the Beef and Broccoli, Chicken Wings, Cream Cheese Won Tons, Chow Mein, Shrimp Lo Mein, Egg Rolls, I could go on and on. Believe me; once you try it you will love it!

I echo the sentiments of the positive reviewers for this place. The food is fresh and delicious. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good, I usually get one and a half meals out of a single order. They make the best sesame chicken Ive ever had. They do use MSG but I always ask for it without and they are happy to oblige. So you can go to most places and order food thats been sitting under a heat lamp or go to the Golden Chow Mein Restaurant and get fresh and delicious food.

I was just there today after I saw the wonderful reviews on here and Ive come to the conclusion that you are all high on MSG. I was not impressed at all. I got the combo sesame chick and chow mein. The chow mein was discussing! The sauce is pure corn starch and who knows what that meat is! Yikes! The sesame chick was ok. Ive definitely had better. There were very few "chinese classics", mostly chow mein, lo mein, and sweet and sour. I will not be back.

Have been going to this place almost since the day it opened 20+ years ago. My favorite dish is the shrimp with lobster sauce. Their combination plates for about $7 are also favorites. Food is always hot when I get it. Not too many places have food that burns your mouth. The pain is exquisite. I go to eat in and take out. Owner is very nice. She treats me like family. I wish the place would go public. Id be a shareholder. Its a goldmine!

I cant believe some of the comments! We have been going to the Golden Chow Mein Restaurant since they opened. Even after we moved to Arizona, we would make it a point to stop for lunch on our arrival and lunch before we left Minnesota, and sometimes a visit or two in between. If the owners are on site (they do take time off you know) you will have excellent food, excellent service and undoubtedly the best prices on GOOD Chinese food around!
