On one recent visit to Ghandi Mahal, I asked for one dish and was given something else for a higher price and the hostess/waitress was not understanding about it. Another employee intervening to acknowledge the error saves this review from becoming two stars. Another time, one of the waitresses was a little rude to me. To be honest I think I am being generous in rating but whether or not food is fully traditional in flavor, my husband and I do like the taste of the curry here and the price is ok for the portions you are given. That also keeps this review from going to 2 stars. The fact that all the Indian people - like every Indian who has written a review here - is rating this place as bad, but all the white Americans are giving good reviews, is kind of funny. As for me, I am with the black guy who said service was not good (I am being nicer than he was about it) but food tasted fine. Hmm, what do the Chinese customers think of this place...

Service - excellent; professional, friendly, and consistently attentive Decor - nice muted reds and browns; cloth napkins, no tablecloths Ambience - interesting cross between Indian and British; lots of Scottish or Irish jigs music in the background; waiter commented about my entrees popularity in Britain; it appeared that they have live Indian music some nights Food - . Chicken Tikka Masala - chicken was a little dry; sauce was nicely flavorful; four spice level options available . Basmati rice - perfect consistency and nice flavor . Naan - a bit soggy, but flavorful Value - good meal and excellent service for the price Customer focus - the bill also included an evaluation form allowing you to comment on a number of aspects of your experience along with your payment.

Absolutely the best Indian food in the Twin Cities! We try to eat at Gandhi Mahal at least a few times a month. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and happening. Its popular but never packed (we have yet to wait for a table). The food is INCREDIBLE, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the music nights are great. Perfect for date night! As much as were impressed with this restaurant, were even more impressed with the owners presence in the community. Hes always up to something, whether working on indoor gardening throughout the winter, writing big checks for the restorative justice program, or hosting local community meetings. If every business owner put as much passion into their business and community as he does, the world would be a much better place.

Just ate here for the first time this weekend, it was an awesome experience! The decor is gorgeous, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the live music was beautiful, and the food was delicious! for appetizers we had the Samosa & the Nanmush Gandhi. the samosas were good, not quite as crispy as i like them but flavorful. The hummus was fabulous, very creamy with lots of tahini. For entrees we had the Malai Kofta $12 Golden fried balls of paneer and potatoes in mild almond sauce & The Masu Karma Platter $15 a sampling of 5 different dishes & dessert. Both entrees were fanrtastic, with portions large enough for us to have leftovers the next day. we also each had an alcoholic beverage and the bill only came to $50, great value for a wonderful time!

Warm and inviting atmosphere. I love Indian cuisine and this is now at the top of my list in the midwest. Quality food, good portions of meat in the dishes and the sauces were hearty and very flavorful. The only reason I didnt give it a 5 star is that towards the end of the meal the servers were way too quick to remove dishes and bring to-go boxes while 1 of our party was still eating. Service to this point was very good but it is never appreciated to feel rushed from a night out of good food and wonderful conversation. Please note we got here around 6PM and when we left 40 minutes later the place was packed. Enjoy

We ordered Gandhi Mahal (delivery) last night after seeing that it was ranked #1 on the City Pages "Top 10 Indian Restaurants in the Twin Cities". It was okay, but we probably wont order it again. Delivery Guy = Very courteous! Shahi King Korma (with chicken) = 6/10. Kamal Ke Mango (with goat) = 6/10. Bangla Talapia (fish... of course) = 6/10. Palak Paneer = 8/10. We also ordered 4 different types of nan. They were all good, but its the entrees that you want to be awesome. Bottom Line = The food is not bad, but its not amazing either. It was spicy, but for whatever reason, it lacked strong Indian flavor.

This is one of the worst place Ive ever been to.. The waiter and waitress were rude. They even took my spoons when I wasnt even done( my spoons were in the table not even on the plate) the food is not good at all. The people who knows how Indian food is, they would never like their food. The sweets are canned products. I think they dont know even what Faluda is! Theres only few options of foods, no beef. Dirty place, tasteless food, rude behavior this place has all of them. Desi people (who love indian food like me) dont ever go to this place to waste your money. Im serious, for real this place is terrible!

Looking at High level of reviews, we went for dinner on July5th Saturday evening. I am a foody and always look for variety of indian food, I was very positive till the time I tasted first bite... Ram singh at my hostel was serving better food than Food I got in Gandhi mahal. Worst Indian food I ever had in US. We ordered Saag Paneer, Vegetable curry , First time in my life I could not finish and left food. The only thing good thing was Kheer. If you are looking for Authentic indian food... Better avoid this place.. PS - An indian pair sitting behind us was also so frustrated with food.

The building is a good size while still being cozy. Very pleasant atmosphere and decor. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. We were seen right away and never had to wait long for anything. The food was absolutely delicious. I dont handle spicy food very well but they said everything there is a bit toned down compared to a traditional Indian restaurant. I went with a group and we were given a tour of the basement where they grow spinach, peppers, curry, etc. And below the greenery is a giant fish tank where they raise tilapia! They have fresh tilapia! Exclamation point! A+

Nice decor, nice people, reasonable price, and the food was tasty. I had the Pagal Coconut Curry, which was kind of a brown curry but had good flavor. Their idea of spice is different than the typical hest Im used to with Mexican heat and hot sauce. My buddy had the Shahi King Korea and we both thought that had the better flavor even though the other one tasted great. We also had a garlic Nan and avocado appetizer. I think the avocado had horseradish or something in it that Im not big on but it was still a good app. Ill be back to try more of the menu out!

What struck me most about my first trip to Gandhi Mahal Restaurant was just how similar the food was to that which I cherished over the course of my vacation to northern India. Gone was the heavy cream and grease indigenous to innumerable, utterly forgettable Indian restaurants here in the US. Instead, Gandhi Mahal serves cuisine both strikingly complex and ineffably delicious. I cant say enough about the food here except to say, in short, that theres a reason why Gandhi Mahal currently holds a perfect rating. You won’t be disappointed.
