This place should change their name from Tav on the Ave to Additional Charge on the Boulevard. I really, really wanted to like this place. They have a nice patio and a happy hour - what more could we ask for? Unfortunately, after we got several surprises on the bill, we all felt nickel and dimed to the point where we wont go back. (I recommend bringing your own food to the Mankato Brewery for awesome beer and happy-hour prices all day every day). A group of us stopped into Tav on the Ave to enjoy happy hour on their patio. The drink prices were not great - but the appetizer prices were good so we started with onion rings and cheese curds... both were about what youd expect. Good - but not because they were gourmet - good because they were deep fried anything. We all ordered veggie burgers - two plain and one with cheese. My wife asked for sauerkraut and I asked for a side of barbecue sauce. The burgers come with chips - and the menu says its 1.50 extra for fries. When two of us ordered fries, the waitress asked what kind of fries we wanted and listed some pretty amazing choices. I ordered sweet potato and my friend ordered waffle-cut. My wife asked for a salad - which the waitress said would be extra. Everything was about what youd expect - with the exception of the salad. I think this salad was one of the first salads ever invented. All the lettuce was brown around the edges - the carrot shavings had dried out - and the croutons were petrified. I know gerbils that wouldnt have eaten this salad. The food, other than the salad, was fine. Then we got the bill. Each of us had been additional charged to the tune of about 10% on our bill... the fries werent 1.50 extra, they were 2.50 extra. The 1.50 was for french fries. Specialty fries were 2.50 extra... which is fine if its printed or your waitress tells you. It is not fine when someone says I want fries to offer them a selection and not tell them that there is an additional additional charge for most of them. Inedible salad? 3 bucks. Barbecue sauce? Extra. Sauerkraut? Extra. The only reason I gave them two stars is because the service was fantastic. We wont be back.

Ordered wings thru the phone after midnight I asked them to make it saucy. My wings came out they were dry. So I asked the waiter (Emily Lead Server) at the restaurant if I can have them saucy she rolls her eyes and gave me attitude. Went to kitchen and got me cup of hot sauce. She was very rude when she came out with hot sauce. Started talking back to me because I asked why she was mad. Then she went back near to the kitchen and prep area started talking about me. My wings came out dry and they shorted me 1 wing. They gave me 11 instead of the 12 they charged me. I didnt feel comfortable eating there after I ate 4 wings. I asked the cook for to go box I paid $10.00 to cook the wings & ranch became total was 9.65 She was in the back somewhere. I left the restaurant she followed me outside to my car and she asked me why I didnt pay. I told her I gave the money to the cook. She started arguing with me again outside restaurant yelled me not to come back to restaurant. Im a customer Ive been coming here sense I was in high school getting wings. Ive myself worked in restaurant in San Francisco and LA. Ive never seen Server act like this before so rude disrespectful. I felt like I was loyal customer at this restaurant I feel uncomfortable go back.

Went there on my lunch, expected to atleast be able to eat over my lunch break. This was not the case, It took 10 mins to get a server, 35 to get our food(chicken wraps). By the time we got it we had to get it in a to go box and try to eat on the way back to work. Our server was more interested on chatting with what looked like people she knew for over 10mins and grabbing their 2 rounds of shots they wanted @ 1 and the afternoon than even bothering to check on our food oven once. Even when we asked her to check on it she stopped to talk to her shot customers for another 5 mins before checking on our food. When we Finally got our wraps they were terrible, first time Ive not left a tip since I can remember. Some of these places need to remember people come there on lunch breaks with limited time, Im all for chatting with customers but it was just crazy the lack of service and the quality of food we got today.

Tav has a reputation for being a party place, where people come to get drunk. Well, you can still do that at the current Tav, but theyve classed it up. As a person who loves to drink and still go out looking resh this tops my list of places to eat and drink in the Mankato Area. The staff treat you like youre a college friend, and the kitchen staff whip up some of the finest bar foods, and burgers money can buy. Seriously, the choices are endless, the food options are what you expect from your favorite college bar, but better, and unbelievably succulent. Go on a Sunday afternoon and visit Tara at the bar, or any other day of the week and you will be treated like college town royalty.

Very loud, very expensive for domestic tap bear. A third full and voices just carried all over place. Menus poorly made, stumbled on somewhat of a dinner menu. Offered a choice of sides on order of pulled pork burger and was still charged for as a extra side. Also ordered fish and chips and asked for cocktail sauce and was told they were out (dont serve a dish if you have run out of a condiment that is a commonly paired with meal) and had to use ketchup. The side salad wasnt brought before the meal and we had to ask for it.

Twice in a row weve gone here the bartender told us to pick a seat and then it takes 15 minutes just to find a waitress. Then she had an attitude with us and acted like we did something wrong when shes the one yacking at the bar with her friends not taking care of tables. Next time I have to wait 90 minutes between the time my food comes and the time I get my bill Im just going to walk out because that just tells me they dont care if I pay or not

Great patio, great beer/bar selection but the food was way overpriced for standard bar food. A few beers on the menu were out of stock as were some of the items on the menu. I ordered a patty melt that was pretty must just a cheeseburger on slices or marble bread. Wife ordered a salad that was mostly core and large chunks from the head of lettuce instead. But our server was pretty good and checked on us frequently.

At 7:30pm waited for more than my time in line. 2 couples were seated before us. We were here well before they were. And she said that she called my name. My wife and I watched her never once did she called my name. Poor front door service. I hope our food is better than that service. I will rate the food was amazing of ☆☆☆☆☆. Tavern Bacon Burger great job cooks. Someone knows how to make a good burger!.
