My wife and I have gone to Rey Azteca twice to eat in and have ordered take out five or six times. My wife has eaten in a couple of other times with friends. The times we have eaten in we have had "meh" level food and horrendous service. I see some reviews that praise the service but Im not sure if they are talking about the same restaurant. The wait staff couldnt seem more disinterested and put out by your presence. When weve gone in to pick up our take out its been the same. The workers seem annoyed to have to stop their conversation to hand you your order. Ive resisted writing a negative review so far mostly because I was hoping to have a better experience at some point. I like to support local businesses. Today was the last straw. We wont be going back and I felt I should let others know. Our experience started with the rude service on the phone when we called in the order. Then we went to pick it up. When we parked, my wife walked to the door while I stayed in the car. She arrived at the door just before another woman. The other woman waved for my wife to go first so she did. The woman then shook her head with disgust and mouthed something quietly. The woman then impatiently pushed past my wife once they got into the restaurant. It was obvious enough that my wife tried to joke about it. The woman just kept walking. Turns out the woman was a worker and was running back into the store after a cigarette break (based on her smell). Needless to say we wont be back. There are plenty of other options in the area. No need to support this particular business.

We just moved to the neighborhood and had the welcome wagon come around. They gave us a coupon for EL Rey Azteca, and the guy really talked it up. So We went. When we arrived there is no direction for where to sit and we were ignored by three waiters. Finally Angelino (Remember the name) seats us. Three other couples come into the restaurant in the mean time are seated have drink and food orders taken. No waiter. Angelino comes back with Menus and take our drink order. We didnt order fancy our coupon said up to 10 dollars off two entrees just Fajitas and Enchiladas nice and simple. by this point I had finished my pepsi, no sign of Angelino. My wifes enchiladas came up then my Fajitas without the tortillas. i can see he has forgot them because he is standing at the bar. Five minutes later he appears with the tortiilas like there is nothing wrong. the whole time he pays no attention to us at all he took my empty glass to refill comes back to my table walks passed me seats two other couples then comes back with my drink. The worst service and the food mediochre at best. In short the worst experience since eating in England where waiters dont traditionally work for tips.

To be fair, Im from San Diego so my expectations on Mexican food run a little high. My wife and I came in on a Saturday night at 7pm and were seated immediately. Our drink orders were taken right away and the chips and salsa arrive quickly. I tried the white sauce and that was unique, not terrible but not my favorite. The salsa was a bit bland. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes which turned out ok. A little bit of heat in the sauce and the shredded beef stuffed inside was good. Not a ton of flavors, just ok. My wife had a combo with an enchilada and a beef taco. The enchilada was good, the ground beef taco was not. According to my wife, the ladies room was gross, I didnt ask for details. She also mentioned that the kitchen did not appear well cared for. 3 stars because the food and service was quick and tasted average.

Dislikes: upon entering the restaurant if its busy and there is no seating you have to stand and wait in the aisle where there are booths with people trying to enjoy a meal on both sides of you. There is no waiting area. Some of the seating is literally right by the door(s) where you are exposed to drafts. We personally were sitting in the middle section seating area and were still exposed to the drafting. The chips and salsa were good, however the flavor of them misled us to expect as flavorful of a main meal. Our meals were completely different yet both of us agreed after several bites that it tasted ok but literally had no flavor. Our server was just ok. We had to ask for refills on our water twice.

My family eats at Rey Aztecas often. Being from LA, this is about as authentic as youre going to find east of Denver. Ive never had any problems here. Great food, fast service, reasonable prices, mariachis on Tues & Sun. And you dont have to speak spanish to order...the staff tries very hard to accomodate the customers and make their visit most enjoyable. The lunch menu is wonderful: nice sized portions at a great price. I would recommend Rey Aztecas to anyone looking for good, homemade Mexican food. For those of you complaining about the service, perhaps you should try Don Pablos Gringo Palace?

We reserved our rehearsal dinner with a manager that told us everything would be ready. When we arrived, no one knew about our reservation. After about 20 minutes, they finally had our tables ready. They put our tables against the wall, which made it difficult to use the restroom. Many people in our party mentioned their food was cold. My taco salad contained mostly of refried beans and nothing else. Our niece never got her drink until the end of dinner even though our waiter kept reassuring us. We will not be coming back and felt we should warn other people to avoid the same fate.

From the days of Moctezuma II, to the reign of Presidente Nieto, the Aztec empire has been forced to consume the squalid insults of defeat. No More!! The Glorious Reign of The New Aztec King, has arrived. Even in a foreign land, despite the snow, in the face of a Scandinavian Horde, The New King will not be diverted in his course. Rather, he shall bring enchiladas and burritos to the struggling masses. The Mole and The Guacamole will bow to his decrees; and the just shall inherit The Taco.

I love Reys! The service is middle of the road from what Ive experienced, but the food is incredible. They get you set up with chips, salsa, what I can only describe as the best sauce ever when you arrive. The menu is big and Ive yet to have a bad thing on there. The one thing that I didnt hate but didnt love was the fried ice cream. It was ok, but didnt hold a candle to the fried ice cream at Mariachi Loco in River Falls, WI. That said stop here and get some food, its some of the best!

The texture of the food was the opposite of fresh and tasted like off kilter Italian. The layout was NOT self explanatory and no signs told us how to be seated or pay. Theres no waiting room, only rows of booths. You walk in the door and youre butt adjacent to someone eating this slop. Then, the wait staff was horrible. It was like they were doing us a favor from the first moment, and for a restaurant that DEAD, I should have gotten a refill. Disappointment abounds at the Rey Azteca.
