I really wanted to like this place. Like, REALLY wanted to like it. But then we walked in the door and we probably shouldve just walked out. The hostess was rude. We stood in front of her for five minutes before she acknowledged us. She was annoyed that we didnt want to sit outside on the patio (she asked, we politely declined) and then proceeded to walk us haphazardly around the restaurant. I slipped and fell on a wet patch of the floor and once we finally got to our table, I was bruised and annoyed. My husband and I ordered two Huerto margaritas, which were delicious. However, the drinks took at least 15 minutes to arrive. I can appreciate a hand-crafted cocktail, but I thought this was too long of a wait. From there, it just got more disappointing: Chips and salsa are awesome, but the salsa portion is SO small (for even two people--I think its maybe 2 ounces worth?). We were out of salsa within minutes and didnt get more until nearly the end of our meal 2 hours later. (Even though our server offered once and we asked for the additional salsa once after that...) Dinner combos come with a garden salad? What? Someone please tell me what Mexican restaurant does that. My husbands chicken tacos were bland and dry. We make better shredded chicken at home in our crockpot. My carnitas tacos were also very dry. While the tomatillo (verde) salsa was VERY good, it didnt cover up the fact that the pork tasted like breakfast sausage. Yes, BREAKFAST SAUSAGE. I do NOT want sage-flavored pork in my taco. Rice and beans were nondescript and bland. Wouldve liked to add salsa or something to them to amp up the flavor, but once the salsa finally came, it was too late. Bottom line: Go for drinks, go for the chips, go for the guacamole. Pass on the food. And dont expect top-notch service, even though youre in West Bloomfield. This would likely be a place Id go for a cocktail hour before I leave and go to dinner someplace else. Sorry, Huerto.

So heres the deal. I made a reservation with my girlfriend for a nice moms night out. We were seated right away. Then we ordered drinks. No problem. We told the waitress that we were catching up and in no rush to eat and go. We then ordered an appetizer and a second drink each. When we got the 2nd drinks, we each ordered dinner. I cant do dairy because of a health condition and I told her that. She NEVER ordered our food. The bus boy took our appetizer plates. Ok. Then she came back and asked us if we were ready to cash out. Our reservation was at 7:15. This was 9:30. We told her she hadnt ordered our food. She admitted she forgot and said she would take money off the bill because it was her mistake. Our food arrived and it was full of dairy for me. I scraped the dairy away and ate it since it was 10:00 p.m. We were informed by another waiter that she had left due to a family emergency and he would take care of us. Ok no worries. Well then the bill came and there was no money off. I told the waiter what had happened and he said he would speak to the manager but still took the bill with my gfs credit card bill. The bill was $72 without tip. He took $5 off. $5! SO needless to say, I am going to a place with bigger margaritas and better service. Update: Just got off the phone with Matt the manager and to say he wasnt happy, is an understatement. He apologized profusely and has given us a $25 gift card and will be speaking to his employees about what happened. So I am upping my rating of the restaurant

Friday, January 29, 2016 appx 6:00 pm, We were told it would be a 20 minute wait for a table of (3) which turned out to be 40 minutes. Once seated, we had to wait a good 20 minutes to get a drink. I called the manager over and when she asked me "how can I help you" we said we would like to order drinks that we had been waiting quite some time, her response "cant you see we are busy". When our waiter arrived, we ordered our drinks and dinner (to avoid another prolonged wait) and it took another 10 minutes to get the drinks. Two of us had tacos, they were delicious, but my other friend order two different tacos but they only brought her two of the same one, and instead of getting her the right order, suggested that she eat the two presented to her. Do not order the Tres Leches....it was cardboard. Even though my food was delicious, I will never go back.

Whether you are looking for a large list of different tequilas, or some absolutely fantastic modern Mexican cuisine this is the place to be. The food is fantastic, the drinks with tequila are unmatched, and the service is great. I would describe the cuisine as modern Mexican with a hint of traditional. The new flavors and styles mixing with the traditional recipes and taste are great. They are also very fairly priced. You get a good amount of quality food with every dish. They also have some other fantastic drinks such as the dessert martinis or the bloody marys. I also dont mention servers much, but our server Ed was absolutely fantastic tonight. Extremely quick and polite, knew the menu and food perfectly, and made us feel like people rather than just customers.

Today was my first experience at this restaurant, as my sister chose the place for her birthday. It was such a terrible experience. We entered at 630pm and the hostess stated that there was a 30 minute wait, but recommended we sit at the bar and she would seat us when a table become available. 30 minutes turned into an hour, so my sister went back and asked about our table and the hostess was very rude toward her. All along while we sat at the bar we were never waited on. So we insisted we stay and still did not get any food until 845pm. It appears their customer service was horrible. It took 2 managers to address the issue. I will never go back to this place ever. Luckily her birthday wasnt ruined. We left at 915 after filling up on salsa and chips.

When we arrived there was no hostess and waited a bit before someone greeted us to seat us, then waited awhile before our server came to the table. Finally ordered our drinks, then our food, food came out quickly but the rice was hard and bland. My taco shell was mush and I couldnt pick it up and the chicken had no flavor. The server never came back to the table and we had to eventually track her down to get our bill. I thought service and food was not good at all, my husband did say his fajitas were good but his shells were stuck together and ripped every time he tried to separate them. It was our first time there and pretty sure will be our last. They were not overly busy so there is no excuse for poor service. The staff seemed unfriendly.

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant! All the meat is of high quality, is well-seasoned, and super tasty. I get fajitas almost every time I go there and theyre always perfect, but Ive tried other meals like the carne asada burrito and the burrito bowls and those are amazing as well. Also the frozen margaritas are fantastic! Overall the food is delicious, the prices are super reasonable, and the atmosphere and wait staff are great. Also they recently updated their menu a bit and whatever changes they made are working for them, everything tasted better than ever the last time I went. Id definitely recommend Huerto, its the best.
