You know the story...reviewers are often overly impressed or horribly disappointed. Well count me in! Any restaurant that prides itself as extraordinary and charges $35+ for an a la carte steak, $11 for a salad, $15 for an appetizer, etc., deserves honest feedback from dissatisfied patrons. We are happy to pay for extraordinary service and food. With that said, we had a terrible experience at Ocean Prime. It was not par with ordinary let alone extraordinary. Our party of four waited for an hour for our food to be served. A manager did approach our table at some point and promised that it would be delivered momentarily. When the meals arrived, two of two steaks were barely warm and not cooked to order. The sides were cold as well. Two of us ordered the featured red snapper. The squash puree, on which it was served, was room temperature. We sent everything back. When the meals were redone and returned, they were NO better! The manager agreed that the steaks were not hot and not cooked to order (ever see "medium rare" with NO pink or red?), and the squash puree not warmed at all. The "medium" steak was gray & charred. The fish was good. The manager offered to give it a 3rd try. We declined; three strikes. He then offered to waive the charges for the entrees and presented us with a bill for our six glasses of moderately-priced wines, one appetizer, one soup, and three salads...about $140. We paid our bill and politely let the manager know that we would have been embarrassed to charge guests for such a failed experience. He agreed and said he would waive our charges; we left the restaurant, it was not about the money. The manager caught up with us in front of the building and again apologized for his lack of response and said he waived the charges. Our evening at Ocean Prime seemed extraordinarily amateur. We will not return. I hope honest feedback will inspire them to review their business from top to bottom. At least we shared the evening with great friends (grateful that we werent entertaining clients).

Dont listen to the other reviewers who have complained about this restaurant. Our experience last night was nothing short of incredible. We did NOT have the issue with late seating and were there on a Saturday night with reservations. We were seated maybe 10-15 minutes late but it really wasnt a big deal. The creativity in their mixed drink offerings was impressive. All three in our party enjoyed the variety of drinks that they had. The jumbo shrimp were humongous and the cocktail sauce had a good bite to it. The tuna avocado appetizer was mouthwateringly delicious. The raw oysters were some of the best Ive ever had in the country. The crabcakes might have been small as noted by another reviewer but they were very well prepared and delicious. The sea bass specialty was also done perfectly. Others in our party reported that the jumbo scallops and lobster tail were delicious. The straw onions with horseradish sauce were also a hit. The desserts and coffee were also outstanding. The look and feel of the restaurant were also good. Our server Ruben was amazing. His attention to detail and advice were top notch. He had the ability to listen to us and deliver what we wanted and went above and beyond what we usually get from servers. Perhaps the other reviewers ate at the restaurant early in its development but I feel they must have worked their kinks out. The place was packed so they must be doing something right. If you are looking for an inexpensive dinner experience with large portions perhaps Ponderosa might be up your alley instead. If you are looking for fine dining with fantastic service this would be the place to go. Be prepared to pay for what you get but in my opinion it was worth the experience.

A group of my friends came to Ocean Prime to celebrate a birthday and I could not have asked for a better experience. Being a past server myself, I am very particular when dining out, and usually can always find something that could have been done better. Not this time! Ocean Prime holds a very high standard when hiring their staff, and it is very obvious with everyone you encounter. The hostess I made my reservation with was very nice on the phone, and in person when I dropped off the birthday cake for my friend. The server assistant, Ahmed, was very friendly, and brought us some delicious popcorn to munch on while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Our server, Tom, was OUTSTANDING! The restaurant was not very busy when we were in, but he made sure to come around just at the right times, to make sure we had what we needed, but was not overbearing what so ever. Tom had wonderful recommendations for both drinks and dinner, and we were extremely happy with our choices. I had the scallops, which were the best Ive ever tasted. Also the cucumber gimlet cocktail is wonderful! What really made the evening really special was when the chef, Lucas, came out to check on us to see how everything tasted! My friends and I were very impressed with every step of service and every bite of food we took, and will definitely be back! Thank you Ocean Prime for making my friends birthday so perfect!!

I chose Ocean Prime as the location to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. What an extraordinary dining experience. The Hostess, the Dining Room Manager, our Waitress and the rest of the staff all worked as a team to make this a special night for us. They started us out with complimentary champagne. The crabcakes paired with a corn salsa were some of the best weve ever had. We split the House salad which was light and perfect for two. My wife ordered the Sea Bass and I chose the Blackened Snapper (wish I could attach pictures of the beautiful presentation). We also ordered the Jalapeno Au Gratin Potatoes and the Brussel Sprouts with carmalized onions which were both delicious. Both of our entrees were so good we were picking at each others dishes. We finished with a dessert that was a buttery cake with a scoop of ice cream and fruit. Weve eaten in pricey restaurants but, none have put together the entire package of hospitality, delicious food and presentation together. We had to walk out with some of our meal because we were so full and that too I have found rare. There was an exchange of hugs and handshakes at the end of our visit with the staff thanking us for sharing our Anniversary with them We are planning a return trip even though we live an hour away and we are thankful for the experience! My husband and I were in town for a concert and decided to dine at Ocean Prime. Our favorite prime seafood restaurant is Eddie Vs in Scottsdale but the one in MI got mixed reviews so we came to Ocean Prime instead. The decor and service was impeccable. The bread mediocre. The ceasar salad was bland even with anchovies added - $10. The dinner was good but way overpriced in my opinion. I had the salmon special which was $56 a la carte (waiter failed to mention the price of the dinner special and I failed to ask but really wasnt expecting a piece of salmon to be over $50). My husband was torn between the crab cakes and scallops so they did a combo - 2 scallops and 1 crab cake with risotto - $37. Cappuccino was OK but not for $5.50. The butter cake with ice cream and fruit was nice but not worth $13. Smoked Gouda tater tots - good but mushy texture (likely due to the cheese and maybe being undercooked - $11. In the end, we spent $132.50 for one salad, 2 entrees, 1 side, 1 cappuccino, and 1 desert. For me, the food was no where near as good as the price we paid for it. Disappointed unfortunately.
