In a world where most people only write reviews of poor experiences I would like to congratulate The Wooden Spoon for an exceptional experience. I dont mind paying premium prices when the Food looks so amazing and tastes incredible. What I hate is getting charged double just because a place wants to charge that much. The service was top notch as well. I see some other complaints about the service around but on this night it was spot on. Ask my wife I never share food at the table, I order what I want in the amount that I wanted! But this meal all four of us pretty much just passed our plates around. I had the Striped Bass which was perfectly seared and seasoned atop a generous mound of Lobster Risotto that had at least 5 large chunks of lobster throughout. The Black Rice soup as well was perfectly seasoned and we all shared the Wasabi Calamari. My Father in Laws Pot Pie was flaky and the chicken and andouille sausage were expertly balanced with in. My wife had the Mac n Cheese and it was huge and delightful. The real surprise was the shear size and deliciousness of my Mother in Laws BLT. Each half was the size of an NFL Linemans hand... had to have at least a pound of smoked bacon and a perfectly cooked fried egg on top. at $15 for that sandwich it was enough to be shared by 3 people... The atmosphere in the dinning room was low lit but a bit noisy and I know I would not like the seating inside the small specialty deli just outside the dinning room but the dual porches in the warmer months look extremely cozy. I would recommend this place hands down to people who appreciate a fresh made from scratch experience. Cheers!

The ambiance was nice but the food was lacking. Heading back home on our way north my wife and I were seeking a nice local place outside of Ann Arbor. We headed to this place base on its reviews inline and on first impression the place looked warm and inviting with a cute market type setting. The menu was also well crafted with a distinct focus on fresh and local paired with a tasteful cocktail menu. Everything about the place seemed wonderful, that is until the food started to arrive. The presentation was spot on, modern and elegant, all that was missing was flavor. The entrées that we ordered both came with a choice of soup or salad, I choose their Brie and mushroom soup while my wife got a salad. Though the Brie flavor was present the soup seemed thin, almost watered down. My wifes salad was a nice fresh greens salad with a house made dressing which was easily the best dish during our experience. For dinner we ordered the shrimp Thai and their walleye sitting atop blue grits. Though elegant the food was bland, the grits tasted like the cook forgot to salt them. My Thai was properly spiced not too spicy but still with a kick. Sadly it too was missing any seasoning to add to the flavor. Worse my noodles had been so overcook as to disintegrate when I attempted to pick them up with the provided chopsticks. After several failed attempts I had to admit defeat and use my fork to scoop up the shredded mess of noodles. Overall I think this is a great place to take a date, enjoy a drink and maybe sample a small it from their tapas menu. Skip having dinner here, as their food is under seasoned and disappointing.

For Brighton this place is 5 stars. 4 if you count ALL of my dining experiences in life but, a solid 5 for Brighton. If you are looking for a new take on dishes, with very fresh and healthy ingredients you have found your spot! This is the kind of place Id expect to see in my new hometown of San Diego. This place is exceptional in their execution of the dishes and they also offer many Gluten Free, Paleo friendly, Vegetarian friendly food for all of us on special eating plans. I loved my Black and Bleu salad. The creamed asparagus soup was delicious and homemade. If a spot home makes great soup, Im sold! Their tandoori chicken salad was a little dry on the chicken side but, the flavor was ALL There! This is a must stop regular spot for any local Brighton citizen as well as a highly recommended spot for those visiting from out of town!

I got the bento box, which sounded like a great deal: $12 for appetizer, entree and dessert, but when the food came the portions were so tiny that I was still hungry afterwards. I was pretty disappointed...I was so distracted by the portion that I even forgot to the a picture of the bento lunch box. My friend however got a regular entree, and even if it was the same price/pricier, the portion was definitely bigger, and it looked so good! Will definitely try a regular entree meet time. The mini sandwich that came in the box was pretty good, so thats why Im giving 2 stars instead of 1. But the other stuff in the box were: chips, fruit, 1 but size dessert, and seaweed salad that you can buy at a store.

Wonderful meal last Saturday. I had the Flounder with lobster and my wife had the hoisin pork chop which was one of the best I ever had. Rick at the raw bar was a great host. Wine list was one of the best valued lists I have ever seen with no bottle over $36 and all of them were great values. They even topped off our meal with some house made lemoncello. La Bella Vita was alive and well here. Something Brighton really needs. World Class dining in our own home town. Carry out looked as good as dine in and cant wait to have Chef Steve who came out to personally meet us cater our next party. Cant wait for the patio this Spring and Summer.

Having different food intolerances, this is the only restaurant in Livingston county I know I can fully trust with my meals! I eat there easily 3-5 times a week, the atmosphere is cozy and the vibes are so friendly. The menu offers diversity and everything is almost made to order, so they are super accommodating! They try to source as mush as they can locally, and they give back so much to the community. They have a full bar with only Michigan craft beers, a crazy cool and delicious cocktail menu, but like I said-- super accommodating if you want something particular. This place is one of a kind!! Favorite restaurant in Livingston county.

You get one chance to make a first impression and they blew it. I ordered some Creative Carry-Out. I didnt realize but most of the items were out of a cooler, not hot out of the kitchen. The only hot items were the Signature Mac N Cheese and Mushroom Brie soup. Those were both quite good. The Salmon and Crab Cakes was really only one cake, and it was so-so at best. The Shepphards Pie was not good at all. I also ordered (and paid for) two tamales. I dont know how those might have been because when I got home I discovered they were not in the bag. Fail!!! Overall, considering I spent over $30 for this carry-out, I was not impressed.

Im SO GLAD were seeing a new emphasis on local food here in the midwest. Living all over the country over the last 10 years, I was sad to move home and find that our local and seasonal food offerings were still a little bit behind the times. Thank you Wooden Spoon for renewing my faith in great midwestern food! I see some reviewing patrons mentioning some higher prices.. guess what? Thats what it costs for good, local, sustainable food. Evolve with us, I promise itll be worth it. We will come back again and again.
