We were given a seat at a table that someone just spilled their drink at on the patio with the seat at table still soaking wet. We asked to be moved to amother table. This table was on the inside, after grabbing a chair from another table (because I didnt want to sit in food) we waited, And waited and waited. 23 minutes later the waiter walked over and said "sorry I got caught up, what can I get you?". Determined to enjoy a meal with my family, I ignored it and ordered. We order chips and salsa and our several drinks. The chips were stale. The cups dirty (on the outside). We decided that someone must have grabbed it with food on their hands and kept all but one. I chose to get a bottled mineral water. After another 20 minute wait the food came. The scallop taco was surprisingly great, unfortunately thats not what I ordered. Myself and one other ordered the shrimp diablo. The 3 tiny shrimps sitting in the center of a 6 inch tortilla, left us wondering where was the rest of the filling. The fact that you could use the soft flour tortilla as a weapon (it was hard), was a turn off. We ate it anyway, tossing most of the tortilla. Nothing to hop skip and jump over, but it was edible. The essence of blackened salmon my husband received was interesting. I say essence because of the few shavings of salmon on the taco. He ate it. The thing that lingered with everyone at my table was the burnt stench and taste that saturated our mouths after eating the rice. I couldnt believe the chef would serve the rice after it burned so badly. The beans were not burned, instead the tasted like they came straight from the can to our plates. No stop for flavor in between. We informed the waiter and he offered us fries. I opted for the fries, but after another 15 minute wait I just asked for the bill. Customer service poor, food bad. Im pissed at myself though, because I went once before and had a similar experience. I did not write a reveiw then. We just said maybe they were having an off day. Well, never again. I mean half the restaurant was empty. How can service then be so slow and the food so poorly handled? We walked out of there and headed to dinner. The three small shrimps I ate just didnt seem to hit the spot. I will add this disclaimer, I did not ask to speak to a manager. We paid full price and still left a tip. I did inform the hostess of our experience. The lack of concern was enough for me to hurry up and get the hell out and never return. My husband did enjoy his Margarita though, hence the two stars. AFTER SCROLLING THROUGH THESES REVEIWS, I AM EVEN MORE DISSAPOINTED IN THIS RESTAURANT. THE MANAGEMENT APPARENTLY CARES NOTHING ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SEEN TO ONLY ADDRESS PEOPLE WHO PRAISE THEM. I HAVE NOT YET COME ACROSS NOT EVEN ONE APOLOGY OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO ANYONE WHO HAD A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE.

Above average Mexican food, fun atmosphere, and a great addition to Birmingham. Service was very attentive, although Rojo was pretty slow on memorial day. I had the spicy shrimp tacos, which were very yummy, but generally found the rice and beans to be bland and in need of their yumma salsa. My hubby had the steak tacos and said they were great, but had the same comment about the beans and rice. However, the portion size of two tacos is an awesome option with an easy add to three if you are starving. Their complimentary chips and salsa and very yummy and our server was quick on refills. Their fresh salsa was great, but their sauce options were very spicy and extremely spicy, so watch out! From the music and decor, I think this would be a fine place for the family early on, but would think at night with the big bar area and pitbull it might get kind of rowdy. I think Birmingham definitely needed a spot like this, so I hope it stays!

My family visited Rojo a few months ago, and I cannot say enough positive things about our experience. I worked with Tina, who personally served our table, about a week before we arrived to plan this event. She helped arrange a "gender reveal" of my second child to my parents by having the live musician (unfortunately I dont recall his name, but he was great) sing an original on-the-spot song to my mother to reveal what I am expecting! She also arranged for a newborn onesie to be placed on my mothers plate (it looked like it was a tortilla!) when we were served our food to complete the experience. The food was great, the tableside-prepared guacamole was wonderful, and the atmosphere was comfortable, fun and relaxing. It was overall such a special time, filled with happiness and tears, which our family will remember with fondness. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Forgotten by waitress. Table wasnt clean when we got there, but the waitress did quickly bring us water and chips. After that, she forgot about us for a good 20 minutes and we had to go find her to be able to order. After that, she continued forgetting about us and didnt refill our chips or water for another 20 minutes until the food came. Got a burrito bowl, it was mediocre, I would rather go to Chipotle and pay half the price for the same or better food. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Service was very poor. Probably wont be back anytime soon.

Really great food and drinks menu. Food isnt expensive but some of the drink are. We had Enchiladas, burrito bowl, tequila flight, perfect margarita and frozen margarita. Everything was to the mark. I had a small fly in my margarita, so I brought it to their attention and they replaced it. people usually try to create scene but stuff happens, we should not hold staff to knife. Ambiance is really nice and so is the service. I would definitely recommend to try this place.

Very much worth the visit. Good prices and service is almost always great. Have had less than outstanding service, but usually very good service or better. Fun atmosphere and lots of TVs showing sports. Rarely has a wait, but do call ahead. Great chips and salsa. Get the table side guacamole. Parking in the evening is usually available in the structure just around the corner. During the day that particular parking structure can be full.

If you love extremely salty, over-seasoned to the point of being inedible food, go here. The service is pretty good and the people who work there are friendly. Pricing was reasonable. Not sure if this was an off day or what, but my tacos tasted like someone poured the entire container of whatever seasoning they use directly into them. The beans and rice were the same way. I tasted my wifes enchiladas, same thing.

came in by myself. the male hostess would seat female customers before me and everyone else who came in 20min after me. the restaurant was very loud not for people with autism like me. the chicken was tough and taste bad. the restaurant seems like a club where you have to look the part to get in. overall avoid if you dont like loud places and places where you have to fit a club appearance to get in.

This was our 2nd visit. The first time we were there the service was great as well as the food! We were there on 6/11/17 and it wasnt busy, the food was still good and they always serve nice sized portions, but the server sucked! He was rude and we had to continuously ask for things! He just didnt seem to care. He will be the reason if we decide not to ever go back there again.
