I went to Crown Bakery on Tuesday 10/28 to order a ½ sheet cake for a baby shower on Sunday. I wanted the cake to look like a book. The woman flipped through her book of cakes and quickly found a book cake. Great! I wanted it to be a nautical theme. She suggested maybe a whale and some seashells and starfish. Great! How about a filling she asked. I opted for raspberry. What kind of frosting she asked. I opted for butter cream. Anything else she asked? Yes, On one side of the book I’d like it to say “Once Upon a Time”. Then she rang up the price. $130.00!!! Yikes, that was way more than I wanted to spend on a cake, but frankly, I was embarrassed that I didn’t ask the price in the first place and decided to place the order. That night I called the person I was planning the shower with and we both thought $130. was too much money for a cake and decided to cancel the order. I went back to Crown Bakery the next morning, Wednesday. The woman told me that they had already started the cake and brought out a tray with a fondant whale, seashells and starfish. I was surprised they started the cake on Wednesday for a Sunday event. She asked if I still wanted to cancel the order. Yes I did. She then told me it she had to charge me $30. I was disappointed but thought that was fair. After all they did make those fondant decorations. I asked to take those decorations. “Oh no” she said, “you can’t have these, that would be extra”. What was I paying the $30.00 for then???? “For my time in helping you design your cake” she replied. Please reread the above and you tell me if that whole exchange “designing the cake” could have taken more that 4-5 minutes. She could see I was upset at this point and said I could have the whale but not the seashells and starfish. How petty. I went to Big Y and ordered a ½ sheet cake that looked like a book. It was $37.98. It was delicious and it looked very nice with my $30.00 whale on it!!! Plus it was $100. cheaper!!! You can be sure I will never set foot in Crown Bakery again. Of course I told everyone at the shower about the treatment I got from Crown Bakery. And now I’m telling anyone who will listen how unfairly I thought Crown Bakery treated me. Because they wouldn’t give me the seashells and starfish, that I paid for, they lost a customer for life.

They are Scandinavian bakery, offering all sorts of Swedish treats. They have pretty much everything you can think of, from cookies, Petit Fours, cakes, pastries, and tortas. I am sure everyone can find at least one thing they like. I was so surprised on how many different kinds of desserts they offer! And they all looked so pretty and delicious... The only issue was that I didnt know what was what - there was no sign on any of them, so I couldnt tell what they are, or what flavor they are. As I started ask question to one of the female staff, she acted very annoyed. I wanted to know what the Petit Four flavors are, so I simply pointed to them asked what they are. She responded "Petit Fours"... So, I asked "what are the flavors?" She answered "Chocolate and Carrot cake. " No smile or no detailed information... I asked how much they are and at this point, she was REALLY annoyed. If you dont want customers asking questions, then they should put up signs indicating the name, flavor, and price of their items. In my opinion, it is their choice to provide information in advice, or assist customers on the spot. I tried their cream puff, both kinds of Petite Fours, Marzipan cake (?), danishes, and Princess Torta. Danishes and Princess Torta was pretty nice, but the rest was not that great. And, with the really bad service, I was disappointed with my experience. Read my full review of this cafe and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

I have been visiting Crown Bakery ever since I learned they had gluten free pastries. I love the "rainbow " gf cake. It needs to be ordered way ahead of time. The buttercream frosting us delicious and the cake is beautiful with layers of sponge cake and pastel frosting between each. My husband who us nor gf, doesnt think its that great, but does eat it. I think it is marvelous and beautiful. They also have gf sponge cake jelly rolls- lemon, raspberry or chocolate. The lemon and raspberry are highly recommended. The other gf pastries can be purchased individually. The place is a mob scene during holiday events so get there early if you can. They have a number system but they seldom use it and people will try to cut in front of you. Dont let them. I think theyre the same folks seen at the Disney rides. So check it out during non holiday times. I would love to see the behind the scenes action. Hope this helps.

We recently ordered a cake for my daughters graduation and birthday party. We went to the store and met the owner (lady), she enquired about the occasion and suggested us a particular type of cake. She provided us with the sample of similar cake. We picked up the cake last Friday, and it was very well made and well decorated. Everybody in the party appreciated the cake. We would highly recommend Crown Bakery in Worcester.

Have you been to Crown Bakery? If you answered "No" to this question you should go there. The bakery has a generous selection of cakes, pastries, rolls, cookies and other foods to compel you to disregard your diet! The sandwiches they prepare are very good, and with cafe seating it is a great place to have a bite while moving from task to task, escaping from the office for lunch, or...well, any reason!

Crown Bakery goods are wonderful. If you have an occasion, order a marzipan cake (princess torte), a delicious and spectacular mound of layered cake and filling encased in marzipan. Every item is crafted with dedication to the art of baking. The staff are courteous, friendly, and helpful. i am always completely happy with anything I buy there.

First trip under new ownership. Crisp, friendly service was gone. In fact service was abysmal, clerks seemed oblivious to customers. Put product back after long wait and left. No longer a destination after more than thirty years.

Great place for all your baked good. Great coffee and good variety of blends. Light fluffy pastriea, awesome muffins, and fresh baked bread. Looking for deepfried doughnuts not the place for you. A must stop by and eat.

Drive the extra mile... get the best. You will never settle for grocery store pastry again. Chicken-pot-pie is out of this world. Not just sweets here.
